They rock.. they're punchy and focussed, nice tension, feel great!
I've just replaced my Rotosound short-scale flatwound strings with a set of La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass strings (043 - 104) and . . . Wow! What a difference! Better tension. Better made. Better balance. Better everything really. I'm sad because I like to support UK companies but will be sticking with the La Bellas in the future - sorry Rotosound!

 3.
Hello GuyLewis I have one and I can only strongly recommend it. It is loud enough to play club gigs as long as it does not get to loud (nothing to do with your usual single 10" comboamp, this is AER) I use mine playing with a drummer and two guitarists using moderate to medium settings on 36 Watt Combo amps. Soundwise it is very flexible but not a modern sounding (think more Ampeg fliptop or something like that) Regards Jacques
Thanks Jacques . . . I tried one in a shop but its hard to know how it would perform at gig volumes . . . Now I know!
 4.
That looks interesting. Could you post some bigger photos and maybe details of how you made it - perhaps in the build diaries or gear porn sections? I'm sure I'm not the only person who would be interested to know more.
Thanks - I'm glad you like it! Briefly its got a maple/rosewood neck, semi-hollow poplar body and good quality hardware/electronics. I wanted an instrument that was retro, good to play, light, unique, shortscale and wouldn't immediately shout "Steal me!" at gigs. I haven't worked out how to post large photos yet but you can see a selection of "things" I've made by visiting my Flickr photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/23213730@N03/page2/ I like making stuff that isn't commercially available - next project is an improved copy of a late 60s Yamaha bass . . . in banana yellow of course (don't ask!)
 5.
That looks VERY nice
Many thanks - Its vaguely based on a 70s Mosrite 350 I used to own . . . . with a few improvements . . . . it plays in tune for a start!
 6. It seems that no-one actually has one of these amps! Having done a little research I'm beginning to see why; I have had trouble finding a shop that has one to try out (well that's not totally true as Westside Distribution did suggest a shop 150 miles away but didn't seem that interested) and I'm still waiting to hear back from AER with the Qs I emailed a week ago. Now, tell me about MarkBass . . . . .
 7. I love short-scale basses too - here's one I made earlier
 8. Thanks for that Faithless. Does anybody have one of these amps? I'd be really interested to hear people's experiences . . .
 9. I couldn't find a previous thread so . . I've been wondering if anyone has an AER Amp One and what they think of it? Tiny, German built amp; 10 inch speaker, 200 watts and a shade under a grand! The ukulele player in my band has a 60 watt AER amp for acoustic instruments and it really does sound great . . . good connectivity and loud enough too. I'm starting to feel tempted . . .
