1. I saw WA way back several times in the 70s and later when Martin was playing with them. I have seen Martin's band a couple of times recently. He was probably the player that influenced me to start playing bass originally. I chatted with him at one of the bass guitar shows and he was interested that I played a Fender Jazz with a pick. He said he played that on the first WA album but it sounded very "clicky" apparently.
2. Yes, we've also joined the cancellation list.
3. I saw SAHB back in the seventies, great band as others have said. Sadly never got to see Rory live.
4. OK, I wondered if that was the case with your comment.
5. No, mostly Bucks/Oxford.
6. The Rock Formation. Our former vocalist used to quip at gigs that "the clue is in the name, we play a lot of formation music".
7. Blind Eye is in the old book I found last night, but no bass is shown. Martin Turner (WA original bassist) is still going strong and performing old WA songs as" Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash". Met him a few years back at the bass guitar show and also saw his band not that long ago. Andy Powell, one of the former twin lead guitarists is still performing as Wishbone Ash.
8. I've got an old (sometime in the 70's) Wishbone Ash song/chord book at home somewhere and I'm pretty sure Blind Eye is in it, not sure if the bass line is included though. Will check later and post again if it seems useful.
9.
I saw Humble Pie at one of the Reading festivals.......before they came on their roadies came out and put a big sheet down on the stage....we wondered what the heck that was about.....Stevie Marriott proceeded to gob all over the floor in between every song!!!!!! AND Greg Ridley (great bass player)played most of the set with blood pouring from the fingers of his right hand.
Yes, they were very entertaining, gig was at Loughborough Art College as I was living in Nottingham at the time. Never got to see them again though unfortunately. Seen Wishbone Ash several times over the years and quite a few bands at Nottingham Uni which was just about within walking distance home !
10. First gig was Humble Pie (about 1971) with Steve Marriott, Greg Ridley on bass, Jerry Shirley (drums) and I think Clem Clemson on guitar. I remember my ears "whistling" for a couple of days afterwards!
11. I don't intend to buy it, just thought it looked a good deal. But as you say could be too good. Let's hope not and turns into a good bargain for someone!
12. Newly advertised on Gumtree - looks a good deal to me, but I'm no expert: www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-62-reissue-sunburst-jazz-bass-made-in-japan/106899346
13. I saw this last night and got in touch with the seller but he's reluctant to ship as he has no suitable packaging etc otherwise I would have bought. I'm too far away to collect unfortunately

Oldman Feedback

Bought Tascam bass trainer from Brian. Good communication and great to deal with. Thanks, Alan.
15. I play a MIM Fender Jazz (96/97 I believe) and have done so for about 5 years. I often receive complimenatary comments about the sound I get from it (not for my playing inabilities though!). Last week a friend of our drummers brought along a MIA Fender Precision (about 2 years old I think) to one of our gigs and asked if I would mind playing it for a couple of numbers. He hadn't played it outside of the bedroom as far as I know. I was keen to give it a go as I keep thinking about upgrading to a MIA Jazz. The Precision was set up with through the body stringing as well which was something I was particuarly keen to try out. Well, I was quite disappointed really. It didn't seem as punchy as my Jazz and apart from the obvious slight difference in neck width I was hard pushed to find any real difference. The tuners seemed a little more tighther but nothing else really seemed to justify the additional price tag. Alan.
16. Welcome Stu, there's a few of us "old gits" about here.Thank goodness for MarkBass equipment! Alan.
17. Always classed myself as almost a Northerner (from Nottingham originally) and now living further south but never heard the fishy version before in respect of a bass guitar. Often have a smile at graASS and grARSE though and path and parth !
18. We've just recently started playing this, sounds like I need to listen to the bass part under the long solo a bit more closely! Usually goes down a storm though.
19. Welcome to Bucks. Bit further north of Aylesbury, you'll find Buckingham. The Kings Head have live bands most Fridays and Saturdays (shameless plug - my band is playing there this Friday!) There is also a "jam night" at the Blackbird pub in Padbury (just before Buckingham) on a Monday. "Band jam" is also now back on at the White Hart in Buckingham, I believe it's every Thursday but best to check beforehand. Alan.
20. Is the neck profile and width at the nut the same as a "standard" Fender Jazz?
21. Thanks Redsriper I will probably check out the G&L option. Having said that we had a rare rehearsal session last night and didn't suffer any shoulder problems. Next gig is a week on Saturday followed by a few weekends in sucession so will see how I get on then!
22. Thanks guys for the replies so far. I was wondering if any of the Fender USA Jazz bass options are lighter generally than the Mex ones. Presumably different types of wood make a difference to the weight.
23. I did wonder about an aerodyne myself, probably have to get along to a shop with a decent selection of basses and try a few out.
