1. Black is the only colour that ever looks good on any shade of bass in my eyes.
2. This'll be why so many of the bands we play with these days are like us. Trios. We were a sextet five years ago.....
3. I think I see some of my old school desk in there.
4. Ouch! I have broken both and it takes a while to get back to full strength and rotation. After a bike crash a few years ago my right wrist looked like a bag of gravel on an x-ray and they had to re-break it twice to get it back into a reasonable shape. Seems to work fine now. It got me back into bass playing as I found it was excellent physio.
5. Top gig. Lovely tunes. Your band has charisma Mr C. Thoroughly enjoyed your set. Made a nice change from beery men of a certain age playing three chord tricks that are my usual gig experience.
6. A lightweight, ash bodied Precision painted in candy flake red with white competition stripes, black scratchplate, rosewood board with no inlays, matching headstock, a Wizard thumper and lollipop tuners. Once the maintenance payments have finished I'll get someone to make me one.
7.
Some jazzin', funkin' footage from our first gig (in this formation) from last weekend
I'm not sure about your bands name
8. I fear the 'Pequod' might be a disappointment when you see it.
9.
Haha, you were trying this at the same time i was typing my prise for BB's. I must admit im not sure if my old set had the old style coating on them. I think they did. Ive not yet put the new K3 versions on but im hoping i get on with them more than i did with the K3 Neons i had a couple of years ago. They felt very rough and brittle.
I had one good 'K3' set out of four and that set went dull after a couple of weeks! Might have been a dodgy batch, but it put me off them. Especially at the price. I would have been happy to keep using them otherwise.
10.
I`ve just aquired a new P-Bass, and it had D`Addario rounds on it. Think they were regular gauge, but, well uuurrrggghhh. far too zingy for me. So far, dead Roto rounds just work for me. i really wish I could get on with flats, but they just don`t feel right.
I'm the opposite and like a bright sound. I'm currently usig very 'zingy' D'Addario Pro Steels. I like them a lot new and they sound good played in too. I was using DR Black Beauties for a couple of years and they were a great match. Recent batches were arriving with dead out of the packet G strings and the rest sounded pretty flat too. Went off far too quickly. This coincided with the new 'improved' coating Not worth the cost any more for dodgy quality control. New Rotosounds always sound good to me. I know they get a bad press on here though. Next up for trying will be Labella Hard Rocking Steels. I've found nickel strings don't sound right to me in the band mix.
11. 3 years with this lot now. Better band mates or people would be very hard to find.
12. One of the most satisfying bits about being in a band for me is the opinions of outsiders. I even like the bad reviews. At least it feeds my ego and I'm happy we're talked about. If you've had any stick them in here. I can't find our old Time Out one "A poor mans Jam with fuzzy vocals" but this is our latest one on Mudkiss Magazine's website. http://www.mudkiss.c...issuesnov12.htm Never heard of the other bands..... Interesting fact about the reviewer is at one time he used to be Sid Vicious's flat mate. Obviously he can spot a talented bass player when he sees one.
13. 24 'caret' gold and a 24p paint job.
14. UK only I'm afraid.
15. PS Try telling Lee Perry, King Tubby and all not to go in the red!
16. Happy Jack described my unaccompanied bass sound something like 'A horrible buzz saw' but he did admit it works in our band mix.
17. He's obtained an Alesis Micro by the way. Very cool. Errr...bump
18. See you there. Mine's a large one.
19. Cost = 0p. All done ourselves. Location courtesy of the Griffin public house. Brentford's finest boozer.
20. It's mainly in the eyes. We have normal ones. Not the cold dead eyes of a frontman. Not the maniacal gleam of the guitarist or the empty 1000 yard stare of the drummer. We just look like the normal person in a band.
21. Rehearsal tonight. We missed last weeks one for a band meeting so it'll be the first time I've touched the bass since our gig on 19th October. I feel a bit like I'm letting the side down.
22.
Hi, What kind of synth might you be interested in ?
I was after a small Alesis, Akai, Korg type of thing. My guitarist has just pulled the trigger on one for band use so I'm afraid we're back to a straight sale for the Rertrovibe.
23. I had a problem with my iMac seeing my Line 6 KB37 when I updated to Mountain Lion too. From memory I downloaded the Monkey driver again from Line 6 and it worked fine for a few months now.
24. I'm feeling more open to an actual bit of keys playing in the songs now. Something like Barry Andrews early XTC stuff would be splendid.
25. We're auditioning a prospective keyboardista tomorrow. Promises to use his right hand only. Willing to do BV's. Looks like Ron Mael a bit minus the 'tache. If he can make tea properly he might be in.
