1. I think if I had to make the choice, I'd rather listen to something new played badly than something I'm familiar with being murdered.
2. This was my cab John - I sold it to Mike
3.
Just to say I'm coming to the gig on Sat and I've got a Epi 4ohm 500W 2x10" if you need it Alan Peter
Ooh thanks Peter - I might just have to take you up on that if the cab doesn't show up in time. Should be a good night if the last few we've done there on a Saturday night are anything to go by. I'll keep you abreast of developments
4. Gonna try and get to the Sunday afternoon gig Dave - hangover permitting. We're doing Dickie Doodles in Kendal on Sat night and it's usually a late one. Hope to see you and others there.
5. Good news at last - found one at MB Music wherever they are - £524 delivered free - hoping it's here for Saturday now - fingers crossed.
6. Hi Chris, I'm glad you're pleased with the cab. What a bummer, most people seem to deal directly with Jorg and that speaks volumes to me. I think I've just solved my cab dilemma - fingers crossed, I should have my new GK 212 NEO for Saturday's gig.
7. I've wanted one of these for such a long time but I'm pleased to say, I'm happy with what I've got. Have a bump on me fella
8.
Homer you could maybe ask the same question of the distributor? Tell them whatever they tell you will be shared with other GK users on this forum.
Thanks Steve - good idea I'm sorry you feel that way ARGH - but I disagree as far as it's possible to disagree, GK is, IMHO unbeatable for the money but I appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea. Anyway, I defend your right blah blah..
9.
Two options: 1. Ring the distributor back and say you'll buy it for £525 - as that's the price the shops are quoting. 2. Ring the shops and shame them into getting off their arses. Tell them you rang the distributor direct and that they told you they've got plenty of stock.
I've done 2 - will try 1 tomorrow.
10.
Al if you're stuck for Saturdays gig come and pick up my Epi. But would need it for Sunday nights gig in Rainford.
Cheers mate - I'll give you a shout if I get stuck.
Homer - give Mike Walsh a call at the Bass Merchant.
Mike was the first person I rang (last week), I've bought stuff off him before and will again but alas, he didn't have anything I wanted in....sigh.
11. That would probably have been Bullshit Spice talking. I'd be amazed if they used 'live' musicians.
12. I'm cabless at the moment and with a gig approaching this weekend I thought I'd better do something PDQ. But first, let me go back in time to a few cabs ago, when I got GAS for a GK 212 NEO to go with my GK1001RBII head. I rang around loads of shops and got the same old story.."sorry none in stock, GK only ship 4 times a year into the UK and we always have back orders so we sell out before the shipment arrives". sh*te, sh*te and treble sh*te. Anyway, I thought I'd have another go after my wanted ad on here didn't really throw up anything suitable so I ring around again this morning and get nowhere so in desperation, I ring Beyer Dynamic - the distributor asking if they could trace one for me through their records. Then the distributor man comes out with a statement that floored me ..."we've got plenty of stock..in fact we can sell you one direct if you like, get it to you as quick as you like sir" What? It isn't hard to confuse me at the best of times but will someone please explain to me the logic in this....shops can't get enough of them and are taking orders against future deliveries and all this time, there's perfectly good stock gathering dust in the distributor's warehouse? It's no wonder shops are closing down. Why don't I just shut up and order one off Beyer? Well I would but Beyer want just under £600 for the cab when most shops sell for about £525. Trouble is, they never have any.
13. My 75 Reissue Limited Edition Jazz - which I sold to Pete above (PTP) not least because it was a great bass but Pete sold it to someone else and that guy (not PTP!!) then sold it on EBAY for £200 more than I sold it for Black Bongo HH - big mistake.
14. Nice Yammy Peter
15. I know it's probably going to upset some people but I don't get the 'old is better' thing or the lust for mojo'd basses. I'm sure there are some fine old instruments around - and WOT's are truly excellent examples, but there is an awful lot of poo about too. I think if a bass is, and always has been your bass and the mojo is all your own doing (a la Dave Peacock in the latest issue of BGM), then it's righteous and cool - the guy should be buried with it when he goes. To me, other people's mojo is like other people's underpants eeuw...but then again I am old and kinda mojo'd myself so what do I know.
16. Gulp Steve - I wish. Your Smith 5 is the best bass I've ever played and being completely honest, I can't believe this is making way for a Shuker. Good luck anyway
17. sh*t, if I'd seen this earlier, we could have done it. No use to you I know.
18. Judging by your avatar cetera - you must have an easy going missus, I mean how many women share their make up with their husbands?
19.
i'd be down there on friday to see exactly what she's up to, sounds dead shifty.
How grimly fiendish Come to think of it, I'm not doing anything Friday - sounds like a plan
20.
The woodman used to be alright, some years ago. My family own various pubs in Burnley but I'm glad to say not that one. I doubt its all the landlords getting in on you
You're right odub. It's probably genuine - the outgoing landlord may not have told the incoming but we've done two gigs there since the change which made me a bit suspicious. The other thing is she went and got the diary and came out with the page for November 17th open saying "this is when you're booked in" but didn't appear to want to open the page for this Friday, which would have cleared the misunderstanding immediately. I must be getting cynical in my old age.
21. Twas The Woodman Inn on Todmorden Road. Reading between the lines here, and putting two and two together for a moment, it could be the plot has maybe thickened a bit. We started playing in Burnley last Xmas when somebody recommended us to a landlord. Turns out he ran a card school on a Thursday night where all the local landlords got together and it is there at one of these meetings, word spread that we weren't a bad band. So - for the last few months, we've been up and down the M65 every other week. Then, in May we gave notice to one of the pubs that we had to cancel a gig at the back end of August and the guy absolutely flipped - even though we gave him 3 months notice. He told us to cancel all our future bookings. I wonder.....na...but then again...maybe....could it be a case of kicking one and they all limp?
22. Bloody hell - after the debacle that was last Sunday's gig in Heysham nr. Morecambe, I was looking forward to this coming Friday's gig at an establishment in Burnley. Our drummer is away for the weekend so my mate and ex-band drummer Big Mick was standing in so I was really, really looking forward to it. So I drove the 20 miles to Burnley to take some more posters to make sure we get a good crowd in. I walked in and got attacked by the landlady's jack russell and then, just before I launched the pesky little critter into outer space courtesy of my Doc Martin shoes, the landlady appeared. Undeterred, I handed said posters to the blank faced landlady and she said "but you're not playing here on Friday", to which I said "yes we are, it was booked in January", to which she replied.." ah yes, but that was booked with the old landlord, I didn't book you so you're not playing here this week". She thinks we're gonna turn up at the one she booked for November - yeh right.
23. Two before and one at half-time for me. On some of the local gigs - if it's the right time of the month, I get the missus to drop me off and pick me up after and then I'll have 5 or 6 but TBH, it doesn't seem to have much effect on me or my playing cos it's over the course of 5 or 6 hours.
24.
Heysham - that's your problem. I spent a fortnight in Heysham one Saturday evening Hamster
There used to be a guy on a show called The Comedians years ago, his name was Colin Crompton and he was from Morecambe. He used to say that they didn't bury the dead in Morecambe - they just propped 'em up in bush shelters with bingo cards in their hands. I think all buses in Morecambe terminate at this pub.
25. Have a bump from a fellow user - great heads Chop
