1. Uh oh - I want an ACG Recurve single cutaway - I tried Andyonbass' on Sunday and it was stunning. Is there no end to my pain??
2. Just have to say that last night's Steely Dan gig at Hammersmith was absolutely fantastic. I would even go so far to say it was the best I'd ever been to. Great atmosphere, band were as tight as the proverbial camel's arse in a sandstorm. Freddy Washington was top drawer and f. me what a drummer. A lifelong ambition fulfilled and I wasn't disappointed.
3. You have remarkable taste Stu, lovely basses mate.
4. I'm lucky - I like any good music and have hundreds of favourite bands - top 3 would be; Beatles - Paul McCartney Steely Dan - various Toto - Mike Porcaro
5. Sold my Epifani UL310 and I'm picking a 410R on Sunday. Can't wait
6. Thanks mate Hopefully, I'll have some 'in action' shots soon and if i don't look too horrific on them, I'll post 'em as you requested.
7.
I have not worked it out totally yet but it should be in the £200-£250 range plus power supply and P&P. I am looking for a home for the Rack version prototype and will give you a good deal in return for a review, etc. PM me if interested. Dave
A bit out of my price range TBH Dave but thanks for the offer. Also, you'd probably best give the prototype to somebody who actually has a clue for a review and not a complete technophobe like myself!!
8. I'm in the market for a 1u rack compressor Dave - this sounds interesting - any idea of ££ at this stage?
9. Great stuff - thanks a lot fellas
10. I have a Tascam BT and up to now, I've just used it with headphones. Tonight, I hooked it up to my PC speakers and it sounds great - probably saved me spending a few bob on a practice amp. The only problem is, I can no longer use the Guitar Pro software on my PC cos the speakers are connected to the 'line out' socket on the Tascam. Is it possible / what do I need to buy or do to connect everything so I can use my Tascam through the PC speakers and also use the Guitar Pro thingy (also through the speakers). I know - I'm thick as pigsh!t, but I'm nice with it.
11.
The Sterling is a beauty - I had the chance to give it a whirl at the bash, felt great and looks wonderful. How do you find the 2 compare ?
Hello Matt, The Sterling has a considerably higher output and has more mids, which makes it punch through the mix better than the Ray. It doesn't go as low as the Ray but it's more versatile tonewise. I can get quite a wide variety of sounds including P and J-esque sounds whereas the Ray always sounds like a Ray.
12.
Hey Homer - do you have a voice inside your head, that sounds like Obi-Wan Kenobi saying, "These aren't the basses you're looking for - move them on." ? Search your feelings you know it to be true. Nooooo! Nooooo!
I used to! I don't look at basses much anymore TBH, but if a 30th Anniversary Stingray came along at the right price, I might just.....nah - I'm sorted for the mo.
13. Love your latest pair Russ - must get to one of your gigs mate.
14. Lovely stuff Matt - I love the look of that Squier Bronco and the Ray is very nice.
15. Well...I've had more tools than Joan Collins in the last two years.
16. I had a go through an SWR WorkingPro 10" combo t'other day and was mightily impressed. So much so, I'm going to buy one - not cheap though.
17.
Over how long a period is it that you've acquired/sold those basses? A mate of mine works for the Guiness Book of Records - I'll think I'll get in touch with him if you keep on going! Nik
I've been playing bass for two years now. Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments about my camera skills.
18.
+ 1. You can be sure it´s really porn with Alan´s photos. Good thing Rays are so prohibitively expensive (to me, anyway) or else I´d have another GAS attack. P. S. Alan - don´t you ever wish you still had a P? You had some stunningly nice examples, and I for one am addicted to them...
I would like another P sometime - a beater with some TI flats on would be my thing. For the moment though, these two float my boat and d'ya know what I think they will for some time to come - here's hoping. Thanks for all the positive comments fellas and a special thanks to Muppet for the 'Ray and Greene King for the Sterling.
19.
The DTR2000 is great I agree (I have one) although I suspect it's a little more than £120. Thomann do it for £162, but the DTR1000 is a much more reasonable £95. Value for money wise the latter would be my choice. Steve
Hi Steve, I've been looking at the DTR1000 but I haven't seen one advertised anywhere for less than £139. Where can I buy one for £95?
20. Any recommendations up to £120 (Don't do Behringer)
21.
By any chance Alan did you sell the Deluxe jazz to a certain glaswegian fella called Ruhai??
It was indeed Ruhai - nice bloke.
22.
I've heard great things about those pups. - Where did you get it from? paul.
Hi Paul, I bought the bass 'as is' off Greene King after trying it at the Bash - perhaps he can tell you about the pup's origins - I suspect it may have come from the States. The Nordstrand is a beast alright giving the Sterling a much higher output than the Ray and the range of tones is immense. Definitely a worthy upgrade IMHO.
23.
Ha, wicked, every one of them except the Status of course, I didn't like to tell you at the time in Colne when me and Dr Dave had a look at it, but I thought it sucked too, I'm not a fan. Top quality basses one and all, and I've played quite a few of them. I wish I still had the Marcus, I miss that a lot. The current MMs look fantastic, and I know how awesome that Nordstrand sounds. Wouldn't mind a go on your ray to see how it compares to mine.
Hello mate - glad your back. I'll give you a bell and me & Mike'll shoot up for a beer and a bassy night in your conservatory.
24. Thanks Luke - TBH mate, I don't give a toss what anyone says.
25. WTF is "Top Ten Hit"? I typed sh1t!! Please no political correctness or I'm off.
