Hurrow! I've just taken my second Drop C bass back to standard tuning after a number of years, and while I'm happy with the setup (ie no buzzes or rattles anywhere else, neck is basically straight with just that tiny bit of relief that Jerzy Drozd suggests lol), there is one note that is buzzing horribley. It's the High G# on the G string (13th Fret), notes either side are fine, and on different strings on the same fret, but that one note is yuk, buzzy and dead. Is it a funky part of the fret that needs attention perhaps? It doesn't look particulaly knackered, no more than the other frets. I can't see that it's lifting from the fretboard or anything...... Any ideas? Cheers Si

Bare in mind that when you use a pick, you often get a more trebly sound anyway, more attack and less bass, so by having a pickup that is more inclined to those tones could take it a bit far and start sounding thin! EMG's are always considered to sound a lot more Modern. Dimarzio Ultrajazzes are also excellent, High Output, plenty of top, mid and bottom! Si

Just had Bootsie from Cort into the shop, and he mentioned you'd had a couple of the Axe basses! They lookpretty fun, although the bridge cover was an odd 'vintage' addition in my opinion haha! Si

Given that a refinish is generally seen as 'half off', would you see yourself paying £2500 for an all original '78?......uhhhhhh no! I'd be looking to pay £800-£900 TOPS without covers and original case, and thats with a good refinish, if it's something that needs to be redone, I'd be taking that off the price too!! But then I'm a picky bugger lol Si

You know what, everyone makes mistakes, even the best musicians in the world......but the trick is being at a level where you can turn it to your advantage, or make it work! It's cliched, but Miles Davies' famous quote of "it's not a mistake, it's an opportunity" really rings true for me personally. Yes practicing more will make you more confident, but mistakes will always happen, it's just how well you react to them! Si

I think a lot of it is being at home and comfortable with a bass, if you're used to where on the neck the notes are you'll hit them without looking. If you're then playing a bass where the notes are in a different place, due to more frets, bigger/smaller body etc etc, then you're fighting an uphill battle, especially if you're swapping mid-set. I would vote for keeping the Stingray. I'm although I'm a proper Fender fan-boy, it's only really their passive basses that I think are ace, they make pants preamps!. If you fancy an active Jazz, get a standard and put in an East preamp of some description Si p.s. and off topic: Raggy, you get my PM?
