1.
What about a P Bass with a MM pickup in the right place ?
Well this is probably what I'd do with a 55-76, add a Precision pickup in the 'sweet spot'. Might look a bit messy, but that would be more 'me' tonally Si

Very cool, although the S1 on the Precisions is probably the single most pointless 'feature' ever, great on the Jazzes though. Rip that out and put an old PIO cap in there while you're at it Si
3. I do love that Lakland 55-76, but I think I'd have the same issue with it as a standard H Musicman, not very versatile. Perfect if you want that sound, a single humbucker in the bridge position, but I do require a little more versatility in a 5er. I'd want two humbuckers, and don't like the two look of two MM 'buckers, which means I'd want two dual coil soapbars......which is a 55-01.....which is what I've got........ Hooray!!! I justified a bass purchased Si p.s. Out of the honeymoon period, I've had the 55-01 for a few months now, done a number of gigs with it (and the changed electronics), and I'm still mightily impressed, so much bass for the money (I paid £749 new( plus new electronics), but seen them stock for as little as £350 used).
4. Currently on 6 years with my '71 Precision, it's been my main bass for about 80% of that time I reckon! Si
5. I like the idea, but it's a bit of a dogs dinner. Blocks on a P is weird to me, two massive humbucker soapbars? Odd. Gross knobs. Dots on the neck, standard P/J pickups, passive with not-horrible knobs....then you got me. I like sunburst & chambered though Si
6. I haven't tried a Poly3 so all I can say is that I have a TU-3W and think it's excellent! Si
7. To be fair, I had one of those 'lawsuit' Encores (i.e. Fender headstock shape), and it was as good as any Mexican Fender Still shouldn't be listed as it is though. Si
8.
Hmmm....a 5 string Jazz, P/J Aguilar pickups, no pickguard, binding on the neck....dots....sunburst.....hmmmm
A man after my own heart Tobacco burst, lollypop tuners! Si
9. You really don't see many of the soap bar series SGCs do you? I had two 5 strings at one point, both trans purple, one fretted and one made fretless by Bass Gallery. Both very cool! Si
10.
My actives are fine on the smooth hound wireless. I just turn that off.
Doesn't matter if you turn your wireless off, if you leave a jack plugged into your bass, it will drain the battery. Si
11.
What happened to fodera?
I sold it a little over a year ago, it was stunning and I loved it. But although I gig a lot, I couldn't justify having £5k tied up to in a bass that wasn't doing the vast majority of those gigs...my Precision was doing them! Plus I had my son on the way, so wanted the money in the back, precautionary rather than needed, but hey One day I'll buy another Fodera, full custom though. For now though, very happy with my '71 P, my 55-01 and impending 44-94. Si
12. Yeah MXR nailed it again! Best bass chorus out there in my opinion! Si

Still need to build my Guma Drive, but the Antique has been out on a few gigs and sounds great. Si
15.
Luckily for my bank balance I couldn't quite get the Elwood spec I'd want so I closed the browser rather that hit the 'buy' button, I'm sure in the coming months when more models are added I'll be in trouble!
The configurator is a work in progress and doesn't offer all their options. Email Adrian and I'd be very surprised if they couldn't do what you want! Si
16. I'd look at one of the Yamaha BB series! 200-30 notes will usually get you a lot of bass in one of those! Si
17. If it were me, I'd be looking at either a Peavey T-40 or a Stingray, possibly a Wal if I was made of money. One year later and you're into the first year of Fodera, which is (un)lucky for me, being 1983 lol Si
18.
Thanks again Si, I'll drop the support team a note to mention the huge improvements moving from Avast gave me. Maybe they should give a Nod32 licence away as part of their monthly plugin deals I've got a lot more confidence in Focusrite now so I may look into the Scarlett 2i4 a bit more (key thing for me on that is the RCA out connectors which means I can go through the same interface and test the mix on my Yamaha HS7s and my Tannoy E11 / Rotel RA930AX amp hi-fi setup. Any idea if there are any comparisons of the latency improvements between the Forte and the Scarlett 2nd gen?
There were big steps forward in latency with ththe new 2nd Gen Scarlett's over the 1st gen driver (which the Forte shared), so you may well see an improvement (depending on a lot of variables) in a 2nd Gen 2i4. 19. Hi, So glad that it's been resolved! Yes I was in the Tech support team, although have moved to another part of the business around 6months ago. As such I've kinda fallen away from the little things that can cause problems (Windows 10 updates (eugh), free virus protection updates (double-eugh)). That said, I obviously like to still represent on here as best I can, and can always pass details onto Tech support to contact back asap. With regards to Forte, as you mentioned, it is now discontinued, and whilst we will always help as best we can with ANY of our products through the years, as you can imagine, we can only commit to bug-fixing for a certain period past discontinuation, which is 2 years. And this is, of course, if the bug can be fixed in the context of an operating system that the discontinued product may not have even been tested on initially. Certainly report the issue to Tech Support anyway, they'll be glad to hear of that fix working and may be able to asvise of any further beta versions of the driver available for Forte. I'm not aware of any, but as I said, I'm not in the thick of that part of the business anymore Cheers Si // Focusrite Media Relations
20. Hey bud, Just wondered if you've talked to Focusrite's Tech Support about it? Si // Focusrite Media Relations
21. Hell of a price for a US Lakkie, I play a 55-01 & have a custom 44-94 on the way, and really love the body shape, absolute full access to all 22 frets! GLWTS Si
22. Fundamentally it comes down to aesthetics and ego, simple as that . Ego because there is a "I DON'T NEED LINES" mentality with some players . If something helps you (lines), it can't be a bad thing. That said, if you're coming exclusively from upright bass, then lines/frets are likely to be a bit confusing. Like a lot of people, I prefer a naked board aesthetically, and my first ever fretless was indeed a plain board replacing the original fretted board on that bass, all I had was dots in the original placement (in-between frets), so that was a steep learning curve. Got there though. Both 'off the shelf' fretless basses I had after that were lined, because it was easier to deal with on a gig, had no problem with having the lines there to help. That said, as has been pointed out, you can rarely see lines further than maybe your lowest string, so quarter lines make a lot of sense. If I were to buy another fretless, I'd either go for quarter lines or just lines on the side. Si
23. Cor, good job I'm not in the market for a fretless...... Si
24. Yeah I use that technique all the time, so was fun to hear Michael talk about it . Got it from Ryan Martinie yeaaarrrsss ago. Combine it with an octave down pedal for biiig low end Si
25.
Well, I never checked the serial. Here, if you want to have a look.
Very interesting, yeah, never seen a date sticker before, on an OC-2 or other Boss pedal......wonder if any other Boss pedals have them. For the wider thread, and those who don't follow me on Instagram, here's my little collection (will also add to the initial post): There are near-mint boxed examples of all iterations of the OC-2 through the years (although one of the few Boss pedals to have no circuit change....they all sound the same basically), plus two extra un-boxed Octavers in the front. Back row L-R: Black Label Japan Octaver, Black Label Japan Octaver, Black Label Japan Octave (lighter paint), Black Label Taiwan Octave (darker paint), Silver Label Taiwan Octave. Maybe they'll release a Wazacraft OC-2 that I can add to the collection haha. Si
