As far as I'll go with these sorts of debates is that i am very happy with my amped sound of both basses that I use and I am not concerned if the sound is perceived flat, coloured or whatever. What comes out is generally tuned via an enhance and/or timbre control and a 4 band semi parametric is useful in awkward rooms..not that I can recall having to do much there anyway, so why would you be too concerned about being over-processed by that definition. The OP, for me, implies a complication in the signal chain like an effects pedal or board, or a digital processor which I can do without. As for pure bass sounds... then sure, you'd want to get the true bass tone but I don't believe there is any difference between neck-thru or bolt-on in terms of what is best. I've heard bolt-ons with fantastic..to my ears, resonance and sustain.. so I am inclined to think the build decision is not made with regards to those factors

Whitstable any good to you..?

Played a new venue in Faversham called the Vault, Old Brewery Store. They seem to like us as we have been back there 3 times and are working on a bill for another. Rider was very nice...from a brewery.. and we had a great time. Can't wait for the next time. pics and video, etc etc

Aguilar built their reputation as studio pres, IMO, and was a must-have for a whole host sessioneers... so I would not be surprised if this piece of kit was along the same lines...as in, quality. Good to hear. If I wasn't so delighted with my current amp..I would have gone down this route.

The only thing ..IMO. is that a decent 410 will slay a 115 cab in every respect and the only reason why you'd compromise with a 115 is if you had/wanted/needed a smaller physical footprint. If SRPete wants a 115 at the bottom of his stack or advocates it...then it isn't going to sound sh**, it is just that I think 10's do the job better, myself.

hartke hydrive 1x15 - 500W power rating discrepancy?
JTUK replied to steve-bbb's topic in Amps and Cabs
Get another 410 instead. .. No contest. -
I really really REALLY wouldn't be trusting most venues to supply enough decent monitoring, unless the spec is contracted and you KNOW that it will be delivered. I would call an engr first to see what he is going to supply but I know bass is the last thing to go in wedges..so you are talking side fills ideally.. With the advent of tops with subs as a main PA..this doesn't point to the same as monitors. The carry is designed to be minimalist. We played a large 450 capacity room last night and we need a powerful stage sound, so gone are the days where I turn up and make do with whatever is provided and deemed sufficient. And I needed everything my cab could give me.. it isn't the first time and wont be the last. If you can make do with a 12" monitor for bass..then you must be very confident of your stage sound levels. And this would mean that most drummers can't hit the skins for pish... if a wedge will keep up with him and a supposed loud gtr with his rig as you can bet he will not be taking in a little sansamp 99 times out of a 100...!!!!

Unless you have a rider detailing what you need..and if you get it, which is a huge IF, IMO... then you need a rig.. Unless beggars can't be choosers....but not a route I'd go down.

Of course you give them the kettle lead.

Pete, what neck config do you have..?? My next bass will be a transluc sunburst, with tort plate and RW block and bound neck. If maple with Mop, and you are thinking of a new repray, then the sexy reds ( as shown ) with white plate work very well. If the bass has any value from a potential vintage POV..leave well alone.
Snirk snirk. Sorry.
I knew that was coming ha ha .. but it is a bit slow here today so need a few things to be spiced up. Its a bit anal around here.

I prefer rear ported myself..... not entirely sure why, just all my fave cabs have been rear ported. I currently run two rigs..front ported for small places..and that invaribaly means cab up against a wall as well and rear for bigger stages. The rear ported rig slays the front ported in every respect but I don't put that down to the porting issue, as such.

If I load and pack the basses then a simple gig bag with padding and a decent zip is ok. If I don't travel with the bass then a hard case, and for flying a full flightcase.. Most of the soft cases are varing degrees of cheap tat so expect them fall apart unless handled with a lot of care. If they last..BONUS..!! I've had 18 months out of mine so far and they do ok.

Mayones Jabba and heavily modded Warwick $$ porn!
JTUK replied to TheDaivisch's topic in Gear Gallery
All the pics I have seen of the Mayones J's look very enticing...indeed. Would love to inspect one in the flesh. Nice video on the BD website as well. Altho I think the prices are maybe a lttle heavy, new, they seem as good a spec as I can recall for their market. -
[sup]If you are 200watts into 4 ohm perside..you will need the load of that channel to be 4ohms. and if you are only using 1 8ohm cab per side...you'll get something like 140 into 8 ohms per side.[/sup] [sup]FWIW.. I think PV cabs are ok...and bang for buck, decent, but there are plenty better.[/sup] [sup]As for PV amps on the P.A side... I'd avoid, as the EQ is harsh and not forgiving, IMO.[/sup] [sup]If budget is the be all and end-all..you'll find PV delivers, but if you are a bit discerning..you'll put your money elswewhere, esp amp-wise.[/sup] [sup]Power-amps ok..EQ section, not[/sup] [sup]IMO.[/sup]

I can't believe a sound with an SM500 with full bass is in any way useable, tbh. Not if my 400 is anything to go by. Sub dub...????????
Cheers for the replies. The cab is an Ampeg 410HE 500 Watt cab, Sensitivity is 89dB. With regards drummer, he can be loud but tends to be pretty controlled, same goes with the guitarist. Appreciate the reply, looking at a new head for the ampeg cab....was looking at Markbass little mark 3, or little mark tube 500....not sure yet...
Providing you aren't a quiet player with a light touch..this should be ample, all things considered in your line-up..ie...most importantly...gtr and drums aren't excessively loud. One man's loud though...????

Markbass CMD121p not sounding as bright as it used to
JTUK replied to Herbie The Rad Dorklift's topic in Amps and Cabs
Can you turn the tweeter up and down and hear the difference? Can you hear the effect of the sound of the VP controls..? -
[sub]Mate just bought one... Handwired..[/sub] [sub]it lasted a handful of gigs and a few weeks before breaking just after he got it to sound quite sweet..[/sub] [sub]hmmmmmmmmmmm...[/sub]
I'm sure others have a similar issue when not going through a PA in that to really hear what you're doing ends up being too loud for the overall mix. Better definition will help me reduce my volume and remain happy. I hope.
Nope... It is all about the ability of the set-up to cut through. I never have to be too loud to hear myself. The whole point of a good rig is to be able to hear what you are playing. And I have a style that needs to hear every little nuance... for good or bad..!! It would p*** me off massively if I couldn't do that..

Mine was rock-solid which what was so great about it. I generally have to tweak my current basses twice a year so when the weather turns colder ( around about now ) and some time in the spring Just one turn of the rod just about does it...
Sounds like you are better off out of it My acoustic duo have split up. I only know this because I went to a gig on Sunday and found out the other chap was playing.......... We haven't spoken for around 4 months and he didn't return my calls or emails. I don't know what has happened so I am trying to start an electric band instead
What a guy, huh..??

2 sorts of gigs round here., mostly Main band which is rehearsed and not one that you can really dep out. we have tried it with drummers who do very well on the dep circuit and it doesn't work that well... by comparison. The others are led by a band leader who will get/take gigs and then put a band around it. The more jazz orienated use a lot of charts and the diversity of tunes is such that you can't wing these without them so you have to be able to follow/read them. The more blues/gtr based bands are also excellent musically, IMO, but you just don't know who will be on the gig and charts are less available unless you make your own pad.. It is not uncommon to meet players for the first time on any of these type of gigs...so you need any method of being quick and efficient to make the track as seamless as possible. So although you might know 'Dock of the bay' in one key you have no idea which key the singer prefers if you have never met them before...or whether that track will even be offered up at the gig. So a quick look at the set list and a quick scribble of important parts or key phrases or M8/changes are all the norm So I would say, be prepared to play any old standard in any key by any method you have to do that... Some gtrs play entirely by ear... but then if they drop out it isn't as critical as the bass doing that...

A match made in heaven then...........
