hmmmmm.... something like thus is taking the p************** IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r7wuiOFNOg&feature=fvwrel I can see a Solo of Duo in a bar adding a fuller voice... but that is obvious what they are doing but for a band ..?? I think I'd walk out ...

Really like my Aguilar DB210's which I pair up to make a 410 config. At one point I considered their 212, but am glad I didn't..ditto 210 plus 115.. The 2x210 pr fill a decent stage.... great sound I wish Aguilar did a DB610.. but I really don't have enough dates for it

Having a conversation with a friend of mine who works one of the better bands around here and they are having to change a few members including lead vox. The theme went to vox in general and he said he was considering getting one of these vocal harmonisers for BV's and played a demo of what it can do. Well, it can do an awful lot but I was a tad shocked when he said he was considering getting one for his band.. I laughed, but wonder if anyone would take a band that did that seriously anymore....well, you get my jist..?? I'd think I'd FAR prefer bands that do warts and all... This is a step too far...???

Just a general point, since upon touched on it... Too much bass/bottom end sucks the life out of any tone, IMO A case in point..and maybe to an extreme, would be dub-bass or sub so I'd suggest you want a cab that can get those low B's sounding powerful and punchy...but defined so you don't need an inherently bass-orientated cab, IMO.
<frowns> Right - that's *you* off my invitation list then... shame, 'cause there's free cup-cakes and everything! </frowns>
I meant in general.... and the cup cakes might be pursuasive....!! -

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be going anywhere near a gig like that with a guy who has been playing a few years, let alone less... -

Sure, you can tap out a few simple things, but to get to any decent standard, I'd say the process is very long. -
Traded Vanderkley 112 EXT Cabs - Sale or Trade

I have a guy I use and I think he really knows his onions, but my amp was knocked about a few weeks ago and I think the noise from it under power, with fan on, is louder that it was. I have used the amp in anger and all was ok-ish, but I want to get it checked. The problem is how do you rectify a fault that may not even be a fault..and I am imagining the problem...?? In the case of the OP though..I would feel the same... and would not think well of the guy who worked like that.
I've never understood why a company would offer one but not the other?! It needs both blocks and binding.
I agree... my next bass build will have both. If you are spending that sort of money, I'd spend the extra..and it is was too expensive, I'd look elsewhere
2 tone sunburst and a tort pick guard.
Yep, deffo a nice sunburst over decent grain with RW board blocked and bound
..................... I did play in a band once where the "band leader" (he who started the band) insisted on deadly accuracy, notes, tone the lot. I left the band sharpish when he started saying he was listening to everything in high bitrate to be able to get it perfect and that we should be the same. .........
Did he pay for this attention to detail..??? Also, the thing about pubs is...how much do you want to bother, or how much, will the collective band bother....? As it is, pubs are too much work for the money if you try and do things reasonable well.. where do you draw the line..? For functions... you price for the time you have to spend there over and above your playing time anyway... it could all get a bit silly.

Just thinking... how many people rip the lines pretty close in a 3 piece band because they want to sound like the record...???
-
Not interested in learning the vast majority... so I'll go with what the drummer gets and between us we make it feel good and working..then the rest pile in on top and they may pay close homage to a key part or not. As long as the track works and you can hear the way we have put our sound onto it, then that does us. This way..we have our own set of gears to go through rather than ripping this and that and hitting a brick wall..which is what so many bands round here do. It is so easy to FAIL that way, IMO

Anybody had any experience with DK Management (musician agency)
JTUK replied to bassfunk's topic in General Discussion
A step on from typical band leaders pulling in a band to fill a date. I must say, I don't like the idea of someone who takes the booking being nowhere near the date if things don't go right...and presumably it isn't money on the night..?? So many things wrong with this arrangement potentially... IIUIC..?? -
I love the thought that the Beach Boys aren't relevant but Rush, Slayer, or Satriani would be You're joking, right? Brian has just celebrated his 70th birthday. Given the fact that he's been deaf in one ear for about 60 years and had numerous drug, health, and mental problems its amazing he can still perform live at all, really. The beauty of the beach boys is that they all had very individual voices and they were all used for different things. Brian was never really the main singer, but thats not to say that he was never able to sing. His main talent was definitely for songwriting, arranging, and producing though.
No.. not joking. I think he was the writer of some very good work... but I don't think he was a genius by any stretch.

Get off my bassline, keyboard player!
JTUK replied to aerodyne precision's topic in General Discussion
It is just ignorant of that player... be it a gtr or keys or..?? Tell them once and then get rid of them.. -
OK, the story is as follow. I hook up with a group of musicians and for couple of weeks we tried to put a date in the calendar to audition me. After a few attempts, we locked a slot. The evening before I confirmed I would be attending the audition on the next day. Then, I got a call from my pregnant wife who told me she was going early into to labor. I spent a sleepless night at the hospital and witnessed the birth of my baby girl in the early hours of the morning. While my looking after my wife, I called the guy I arranged the audition with to cancel, explaining the Force Majeure. Now, it's been a week and they are ignoring my attempts to reconnect and put a new date in the calendar. I think I've been marked as unreliable... come on! Anyone with similar experiences?
Have to say that if that is how they react to your very good mitigating circumstances..I think you are best rid of them. That is not to say they haven't been looking/talking to others, tho, as well....????? Better to have found this out now...... they don't sound a good bet to me, on the face of it. Enjoy your new arrival and Congrats

Sounds good to me... you've tried the type of gear and you like it.
-
Kind of agree.... but his live days seem over..more is the pity
-
I'm from Kent....never heard of them.
-
Hope he can hit the notes... but yes, always interested in his work.
-
IIRC, they always went mob-handed on stage. As song as they were a name, they had numerous backing musicians to create their sound and harmonies. The current band is excellent at that... as you would expect it to have to be..as they were a 'vocal' band if nothing else.

There has been a lot of the Beach boys on Sky Arts of late... from the earlier days type documentaries to the latest Brain Wilson concerts. Brian was regarded as the genius but that is mostly self-hype in some ways. They had their sound and they made a definitive album or maybe two and then Brian went AWOL. When he eventually came back, two brothers had died by then, pretty much so the Beach boys were always going to be a studio band. His latest tour was decent TV and some of the songs stood up but the great band rescued him as he could barely hold a note.. No idea how old he is..or what he has been through, but for live he just about is still there... which is the same as you could say for other big artists of his day..or maybe more so. Maybe he was the writer all along and the main singing was carried out by Love and his brothers.
