    2007 Squier VM Jazz neck fully loaded. The neck is a bit of a project which I was going to do over the winter, however I have too much on currently, so maybe it will interest someone else. The neck is in excellent condition, virtually no fretwear. There are a couple things which need doing, they are as follows: 1. The truss rod nut needs replacing as it’s currently stripped (by previous owner) 2. The fretboard glued back on (once truss rod nut is replaced) Two relatively easy jobs, if you have the time. Selling for just £35 plus a tenner postage.

    Get any Yamaha, the cheapest right through to the most expensive are superbly made, necks are lovely to play. Simply put, you can't go wrong with a Yamaha. 😀

    Whichever set you buy, you need to get some decent strings, as it's for beginners I'd recommend nickel roundwounds, as they are smoother and not as rough as steel roundwounds, so easier on soft fingers. I'd recommend Warwick red label nickel roundwound strings, they're cheap (under a tenner) and sound pretty decent. 👍

    @JapanAxe if you like bright flats and you switch to rounds, next time try fender pure nickel strings, they sound very balanced, sound warm and are low-end heavy straight out of the packet. Fantastic strings often overlooked as I say, if you like vintage tone, these strings are the nuts!

    Harley Benton 50’s style precision bass in sunburst, solid wood body (basswood), with black pickguard. Excellent condition, the original electrics weren’t great, so had a Ki0gon solderless loom installed, along with a Seymour Duncan pickup. Quickly decided the original Wilkinson Alnico pickup sounded better and had a higher output then the SD, so changed it back (SD pickup was since sold). Hardware and truss rod all work perfectly. Has Picato medium tension flatwound strings (no silks which I believe is very rare), sound fantastic and in keeping with the original 50s look for this bass, but I’ll also include a free set of La Bella roundwounds which I had on my Jazz, before deciding to put some La Bella tape wounds on instead. So, will include both so you can decide which to use - flats or rounds. £105 plus £20 postage.

    They have no impact on feel, I've found jumbo frets makes more of a clanky noise when you play a note, because theres more metal on metal string contact. Thinner frets are better imho, less clank and more precise.

    We all know the classifieds here is little more than a pawn shop, you don't actually buy a bass, you loan it to yourself, then sell it again once you see something else to purchase. This going by the same basses being brought, sold and brought back again on this forum. 😉

    And if it's not that, then check the tuner, see if the head is a little loose.

    Try loosening the string and turning the ball, sometimes the string doesn't sit right, either the ball, or the saddle or at the nut. A little turn may be all that's needed.

    I've experienced the same thing, didn't check everything before submitting, my fault. Now I double check everything, not had a problem since. 😀

    Last night I took the high mass bridge off a 51 style p bass, just not needed on this kind of bass, replaced with a bbot. Does it sound different, not really, but is a little lighter (weight). Any bass with a thick poly coating, which is the majority these days, will sustain to a reasonable degree, no need for high mass bridge's.

    I've owned dozens of P basses, all have had flats, various price points, various weights, only one had a dead spot. I'm pretty sure it's not inherent to P basses?!?

    What specifically is the difference in the sound you get? High mass bridges should add sustain, but not necessarily affect the sound.
