1. Sunday night bump. Open to sensibl offers. I must admit I thought these would be snapped up
2. Excellent, it'll look good on your CV. Well done you rock and roll burlesque gypsy voodoo jazz guy, you!
3. Ah, the age old problem. It seems to relate to how experienced the sound engineer is, at least from my experience
Just a thought. - what about Di ing from Fishman and using some sort of in -ear monitoring so I don't need the amp next to me?
I only ever D.I & use a monitor. I'd explore this option personally
i notice Al Gare, Imelda May's Bass player, plays electric these days, so.... he's either got an endoresment that was too good to turn down (seems to play one of the new Burns a lot)
He's playing a bass guitar a lot more but he still seems to mainly be on the upright. I saw him live just a few months ago unless this is a much more recent thing?
4. My band supported Wilko Johnson and Norman Watt-Roy a couple of years ago. Great players but again I'm of the opinion good players should inspire you to be better, not give up
5. Welcome Robert. Sounds like you have some great gear
6. It's a double post guys. TheBear has a welcome thread here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=130528
7. Rancid are my guilty pleasure & I like the look of this. I have no comment on the cost as all modern Fender basses seem over priced these days
8. I like the contours. I toyed with having them put into the slab body of my 51RI to give it a 54 / 55 look. This looks to me like Squier are just continually raising their game
9. If you've been playing 32yrs without one I doubt very much they'll suddenly start floating your boat now. Personally I can't imagine life without mine but I readily accept not every bass is for every player. Perhaps one with a hotter pickup might raise your interest a bit but I'd certainly look to avoid anything too traditional i.e. my tastes.
10. I think it's totally normal. I've just dragged my upright down from upstairs for a rehearsal tonight and it feels great. I'd usually default to a P-bass but I do enjoy my Hofner and my Jazz bass
11. Works for me
12.
In before someone says Moondance.
When I saw Bilbo had started this thread I am afraid I clicked on this to do just that.
The cantina band from Star Wars.
In all seriousness I think television & film has a huge part to play in developing people's tastes. My Dad was a pro Jazz drummer before I was born and always tried forcing jazz on me. So I naturally swung towards my Mum's records. However a lot of TV soundtrack's opened my eyes away from rock & pop music. Even stuff like the Pink Panther and Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) influenced me as a bassist and as a music fan. And the Cantina Band were great fun. Apologies if my taste in Jazz is a bit "McDonalds"
13. My understanding was you can record CDs of covers to get gigs so long as you don't sell it at gigs to make money
14. I have & I thought the product was great but the service was just "ok". I've since ordered from http://www.hi-speccases.co.uk/index.html these guys and was knocked off my feet by a 2 day turnaround for a custom order. I have had a few flightcases made and didn't think this was possible
15. I was a bassist for years and then I accidentally stumbled into guitar around 2005. I played really seriously for until 2009 when I caught the bass bug again. Playing lead solos in a band was very different to being a bassist and I enjoyed it at the time. I was ill and needed to scale back on my musical commitments though so something had to give. I feel more comfortable on bass so went back to my roots. I'm not against the idea of playing guitar again but would always prefer the role of bass player as it feels more me. My preference for band role is something like; 1) Bass Guitar 2) Upright Bass 3) Mandolin 4) Electric Guitar 5) Acoustic Guitar 6) Banjo Ultimately I'd rather play a lesser choice instrument in a first choice band then bass in a third rate act! Right now I am indeed having my cake and eating it
16. I didn't want to be the first to mention this seller... so I won't! Nice bass. Always fancied a 70s Guild
17. I'm with markstuk here although I too would wait & see the band first. Alarm bells should be ringing but it *could* be quite genuine. A minor pain if you have had to put a lot into learning stuff. Fingers crossed it all works out ok
18. There have been a couple of more negative threads around trades recently which certainly don't reflect my experiences. It is genuinely nice to see positive things written about just one of the many, many good things about Basschat. Not a knock at the starters of the other threads, I sincerely wish them better luck in the future.
19. I always liked the Westone Thunder 1A basses that were kicking about at school in the late 1980s. Didn't know there was a site though
20. My old tutor used to collect Eko's & I kinda like this. I wouldn't buy it mind
21. Welcome Chris
22. Welcome Dave
23. It'd cost nothing to list it as a complaint. It's a bit of a grey area as on the one hand it's not listed as having one but you would expect to plug in & just go for it. If EBay rule against you, you've lost nothing.
24. Not the best photos so hard to tell. No strings attached though
