A good tip I was given to take them off if they are a bit tight is to use 2 teaspoons using the bowl bit one each side. Much easier than using a scewdriver and gives pressure both sides,

I have one of those too, possibly the same vintage, and bought also from pmt in birmingham, but mine is still going. Actually Ive had it since 2004 so thats 5 years not 3 I have used mine with either an abm 300 or an eden wt400 both with and without another cab. I think that you would have to prove, or get an expert opinion from the manufacturer to prove that that speaker was not suitable in that enclosure to take 300w. The manufacturer is hardly going to run the risk of upsetting his customer, particularly as no doubt they have possibly collaborated on this and other cabs. the fact that yours worked for 2 1/2 years, and mine and no doubt many others are still going are going to help you prove its not fit for purpose. I dont think that any speaker manufacturer gives a 3 plus years guarantee, and even if they gave you the 'without prejudice' foc replacement they set themselves up for everyone else and his dog claiming repairs out of waranty. As has been said in some of the other posts, the speaker its only a cheap one you are probably better off with a new speaker

If i was going to summarise what I have picked up from this thread OP Had a qc issue which was resolved, not as well as it could have been, but certainly better than some of my experiences. A lot of people like BF Some Dont Some people appear to have an agenda almost outside is the product good or not. Any product that has a product on free loan round the country, [did someone say it was flimsy?] or has a trial period with a money back guarantee must be worth a try, and after that you can make an objective decision.

Michael Winter has JBK D140s in his but others have replaced their speakers with everything from fairly cheapo through to peavey black widows nd got good results. I replaced the speakers in the 450/406 I bought in 1977 eventually with very expensive celestions but apart from making the cabinet heavy, gained no real advantage.

I would like a power supply for an x2 wireless rather than a battery. Its 9v centre negative and 100ma am I correct in saying that using one with a higher capacity ie 300 ma or 1200 ma is not a problem? Thanks

There are a number of clubs we play in that have these things fitted, and all because of complaints from neighbours, and a requirement by the authority to keep the volume to a certain level in a particular place. In all cases it has been a requirement from the authorities and not so far for ealth and safety mate. Some of the clubs have been hosting live music for 40 odd years, and its only recently that these things have become more common apart from in certain sensitive areas. They are all supposed to be adjustable for both volume and time so that a peak will not set them off. If they are not set right, they are almost impossible to play with and we hav had them set off y the audience, and we have found no way apart from completely by passing them. Our drummer bought a flat kit which helps, and its good discipline for us sometimes to try to keep the volume down. Sometimes its certain frequencies that seem to set them off, and in 1 venue its very sensitive to guitar, so he has to play very quietly ha ha.

That means theres no point buying any of those found in granmas attic vintage basses then

If you want to use 4 it will depend on the amp you are using

There was a mk 1 and a mk 2 with different handles, i dont know if there were other changes You cant put the mk 2 on its side because the handles protrude so it will wobble Why would you want to its a square cabinet They match perfectly with the4x8 which is the same size You can put either one on the top its personal preference. If as i think you are going to have more than 2 cabs ? ie 2 4x8 and 2 1x15 then the wiring will depend on your amp as you are unlikly to have 4 outputs, and 4 8 ohm cabs will give you 2 ohms total impedance depending on how you connect them, and most amps dont like that.

I bought a cheap painted body for about £40 off e bay, it wasnt heavy, appeared to be solid wood not plywood, and the finish was excellent. The problem you may have with some of the bodes and neck is the fit between the 2 as not all p bass bodies and necks are the same.
