I used these from about 1975 to 1985. Dreadful for the following reasons: But they look great, so ignore all the above.
Methinks your tongue was somewhat in your cheek I have a nice red one that I think I got from maplins some while ago, and Ive used others in the past. I normally use a wireless but I usually put the curly one by my amp in case of a wireless problem [rare] I fitted a neutrik right angle one end and a straight tother. There is no appreciable difference in sound between that or a conventional cable. [Cant remember what my others are but they are good quality cables] I have never had a problem of the plug pulling out of the bass as I always loop behind the strap or had it pull out from the amp. I hate cables round my feet which is one of the reasons i use a wireless, the other is electrical safety. Im not playing the Albert Hall so the backline is never that far behind me and I find the curly lead works fine if I use it.

Think I've just blown at least 1 speaker in my GK neo 212 - Advice Needed
bumnote replied to Jateca's topic in Amps and Cabs
I cant find the original article but Steve Rabe of SWR wrote an article where he said the best way to check if a speaker is working correctly is to connect a 9 v pp3 across a lead and check that the cone moves. It is also usefull for checking the speaker are wired in phase I have never done it so i cant confirm this is correct -
This is what you need for tone. Only £2204 for a kettle lead No snake oil here Valhalla Power Cord Ideal partner with The Quantum. Unterminated cable is not available. VALHALLA Reference Power Cord from Nordost redefines the standards of performance in this category. The Valhalla offers a dramatic sound stage, tremendous dynamic range and superb articulation of the musical event. When used with video components; clarity, detail, and the natural depth of colors are revealed. Valhalla Power Cord uses our new proprietary 'Dual Micro Mono-filament' technology to enhance audio and video performance. The cable consists of 7 solid extruded silver 16 AWG OFC conductors suspended in a Dual Micro Mono-Filament design. By using solid core extruded silver over OFC conductors, strand interaction, hot spots and carbonization, which can occur in stranded cables, are eliminated ensuring optimum performance. The VAHALLA power cable has a very high propagation speed. Unlike conventional power cables which have propagation speeds of less than 50% the speed of light, VALHALLA Reference power cord has a speed of 90 % the speed of light. This offers vast improvements in all facets of musical and visual performance. VALHALLA power cable also uses Nordost's proprietary 'Dual Micro Mono-Filament' technology which greatly enhances audio and video performance. This technology uses two FEP Mono-Filament threads which are wound around one another. These dual Mono-Filaments are then drawn around the conductor in a very precise helix pattern, this construction introduces more air space around the conductors and insulation contact with the conductors is reduced by more than 85%. Extruded FEP insulation is superior to all other materials in that it has very low signal loss and a high thermal efficiency meaning that it dissipates heat very quickly. This allows greater power to be transferred more efficiently. The use of FEP Micro Mono-Filament construction which has a very low dielectric constant and minimal insulation contact with the conductor means power is transferred extremely efficiently. Dual Micro Mono-Filament technology increases current flow, improves the transmission speed to over 90% the speed of light and dissipates heat. This design lowers the resistance of the cable keeping power loss extremely low. By using very precise manufacturing techniques, whereby the seven mono-filament silver plated power conductors are wound in a special configuration, the impedance, capacitance, and other electrical specifications are maintained to very tight tolerances. Another benefit of this design is to eliminate external EMI/RF interference. The result is truly superb sound quality and stunning visuals. Each VALHALLA Reference is hand built at our factory in the USA using highest quality Gold Plated connectors. Each cable uses the highest grade IEC connectors with triple gold plated Oxygen Free Copper contacts for improved conductivity. The design of the connector eliminates stress so that heat cycling and vibration will not loosen the contact points. IEC and AC Main Plugs are used in each cable. Specifications Construction: Precision Micro Mono-Filament Insulation: FEP Conductors: 7 x 16 AWG with 70 microns Extruded Silver over 99.999999% OFC Connectors: Gold Plated IEC/Wall plug US/UK/EUR Color: Clear Red and Black filaments Speed: 91% Speed of light Power Rating: 60AMP Capacitance: 8pF/ft DC Resistance: 1.3 Ohms per 1000ft/304M as terminated. 1m available but 2m is better
Contact the manufacturer direct. They may well be aware of the issue and sort it FOC (apart from courier costs of course). Their product and trading reputation demands this action.
They may also be aware of the problem and be able to advise you of a fix

Worth changing drivers from 8 Ohm to 4 Ohm to get more power?
bumnote replied to richrips's topic in Amps and Cabs
I replaced an old 8 ohm eminence with a 4 ohm impedance basslight and the difference was marginal. i wouldnt do it again -
So, has anyone actually *tried* the Orange isobaric cabs?
bumnote replied to Le Chat Noir's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's a bit off, an isobaric 2x12 will have the same output as a standard 1x12. The second driver allows the cab to be made smaller with no sacrifice in response, but that bit about there being no such thing as a free lunch reigns true to form, so what is sacrificed is output. The same two twelves in a larger cab would go louder.
thanks bill i understand a bit better now -
yeah thats for something with the output of a 1X10 though volume wise.
are you saying the orange 2x12 is only as loud as a single 10? can you explain a bit more -
I found the BLX 80 got a bit farty when you pushed it, which you would need to in this context. I have a friend who used a Laney (150W?) wedge style amp, sorry, don't remember the model, with a 15" which is fine for practice with his covers band. Theyre pretty compact and I should think dead cheap. Cheers Jules
goes back to how loud is loud definition, we used to share one at a jam night and i was very impressed but at the end of it the true test is to borrow an amp and try it in anger
-
i suppose how loud is loud really your problem is that combos are inherently going to be weighty. i got rid of my eden metro to get lighter weight but more trips. The Trace elliot blx 80 is phemominally loud for 80 watts and built like tanks why dont you go to your local music store and ask them to lend you or hire you a kickback or if I am not mistaken if you buy mail order you are entitled to 'change your mind' and send it back

Or perhaps turn it down a bit???? I find if you rehearse at silly volumes you cant hear the bits that need polishing up

Acoustic 126 combo - finally Sold, woo
bumnote replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Taken from the acoustic unofficial web site which is a great resource for acoustic products This is from a post from a guy call cuzin locust who comes here sometimes and is a fount of knowledge of all things acoustic http://unofficialacousticcontrolcorpmessageboard.yuku.com/ The Acoustic model 126 is a great medium duty combo amplifier. It is rated at 100 watts rms @ 4ohms and will not run at less than a 4 ohm load. There is a plug on the back panel where a 2nd speaker jack would have gone,(the 126 and 220 shared the same chassis). I do have an acoustic single 15 cabinet but tbh if I set up the 126 and a 404 I would end up with a physically pretty big rig and it would be easier to use something else. You are a fair way a way from me but you would be welcome to come and try mine if you are ever in the area. [not looking to sell btw]
