1.
Hmmm.. going to have to have a think about the weight issue really. I'm a reet skinny minny as it is and my current laney is already a backbreaker, although that's a combo.
One of the nicest amps I had was an eden metro combo. I used it for a year and then sold it at a huge loss because it was so heavy. Again, you will get all sorts of differing opinions but I personally would steer away from the very small lightweight amps. When they work they are fine, if there is a problem they are hard/expensive to repair.
2. Hi Sarah If it were me i would try for seperate head and cab as they are usually lighter to carry, and in the case of a fault its eaiser to borrow a head or a cabinet. I have no experience of Behringer although they do have a poor reputation. If you are on a budget, I would much rather buy a second hand reasonable quality bit of kit than a new cheap one. Amps 'tend' to keep going for many years, My normal gigging amp is thirty years old and my spare is even older. I use those in preference to an abm ashdown and an eden. I would probably look for something like a peavey bass cabinet, with a black widow 15 in it. Cheap as chips a bit heavy, but almost bombproof. A second hand trace elliot or peavey head can also be found fairly cheaply. I compare amps to fashion. there is always something new coming along which is the latest, best, loudest, lightest, trendyist, smallest, biggest, has flashing lights in blue, red, pink, green. The amps that no one could give away in the 60s and 70s are now trendy again and command premium prices. Good Luck with your search,
3.
Great bass player, can't understand why he never makes a lot of people's top 10 or 20 bass players. I might be wrong, but isn't that him on Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help from My Friends"?. If it isn't, whoever it is copped Radle's feel big time! Cheers. iamthewalrus
the original grease band bass player was Alan spenner. he was rumoured to be the only white bass player offered a job by motown
4.
SOmething similar happened to one of the BC members and he told us about it here. It led to a rush on circuit breakers (me included!) I can't remember the chap's name I'm afraid.
this happened in about 1975 at the john peel pub in gosport
5. im lookng to replace an old speaker in an old acoustic 126 100w combo I dont want to layout a bundle and looking at my local eminence stockist the delta 15 lf is the cheapest followed by the kappA 15 and then up to a basslite at £100 which is more than i really want to spend on something i will only use occasionally. Alternatively, i could send the old one away but that wont be cheap. Any suggestions?
6.
It matters a very great deal where it is made. The only way we will stop the slide towards having a third world economy is if consumers take an interest in where stuff is made.
While I agree with your sentiments, it will only work if we are prepared to pay the additional costs of an instrument made in the UK or the USA. We already have the situation where a CIJ fender is highly regarded in terms of value for money versus a US made fender. What about the lakland skylines, G&L tributes, and the new music man[men] range. I would like a Bob Glaub but I cant afford £2K plus for a us one, but I could probably be tempted by a skyline. Its not just instruments, how about Dyson, Hoover, Computers, Cars etc, the consumer is always going to buy on choice, quality, and price, and if we dont tick all the boxes the consumer will buy elsewhere. Im sure if we all wrote to Ashdown and said we will buy your products, pay more for them, but only if you make them in the UK, they would do it. But we both know inthe real world they will loose out on sales to competition, not enough people will pay the premium, and the market will determine the price. i remember the Im backing britain campagn in the 60s, started at colt international at Havant. Under EU law we are not even allows to do that anymore. Bah Humbug.
7. many years ago i was watching another band set up to suddenly see the bass player on his back with one hand on his bass, and one on a mike stand and he was in a bad way. no one in his band knew what to do, one bloke nearly grabbed the mike stand but I knew where the mains was and unplugged it. It doesnt take much to get electrocuted, and if you have a problem, you will have to rely on other people to sort your problem out very quickly. I always put a clause in our contract that is is the promoters responsibility to provide a safe supply of electricity. I check the mains outlet with an martindale tester when we arrive, I also check the plugboards and we have found faults in those where a wire has come off. We always use an rcd and I normally use a wireless as much for added safety as anything else. as other posters have said, if an rcd trips its 'probably' because one of your bits of kit is faulty. You might be able to check the obvious things, if they are non moulded plugs are any of the cables loose inside, splits, etc. You might be able to identify its the guitarists amp, so he can play acoustically. if its your amp, dont use it, go into the pa, or even cancel the gig, its not worth dying for.
8.
I could go on but I suspect most people won't be interested.
I found that very interesting thanks
9. I suspect mine would have been something from the first shadows lp, probably shadoogie
10. thats at least 13 frets to be unused/dusty
11. I saw that as did a friend, we were both going to bid and then it disapeared nice score
12. Hi Bobby Is that the VA on ebay that completed yesterday or the day before?
13. I have three basses with this type of trussrod if you mean the big cross screw head. The neck has been on and off my 60s precision for years and it still screws back on ok. as long as you are carefull and dont overtighten it should be fine. alternively, you can get some access if you take the screws out of the scratch plate and move it away you can get a screwdriver in one of the 1/4 slots. i would only do that if there are no strings on or they are slack and check that the truss rod is not stiff and dont force it.
14. thats pretty nifty My guitarist is over to the states tomorrow for a week so i thought I would get him to bring me back some strings and a new tuner. Looking on the Sam ash site the prices even with no shipping and [coughs] assuming he goes through the nothing to declare isle, the prices are not much cheaper than whats on e bay in the uk I suspect that where the pound is down at 1.48 ish importing is not going to be that attractive
15. the drummer is the youngest in our band and he just got his bus pass. Form your own band is best and then YOU get the chance to set the ground rules.
16. If I trade, I am really only interested in trading up for a paisley precision although i would have loved the lpb bob glaub that went the other day but thanks for your interest
17. I have a us jo osbourne and i still have a skyline scheff, and have previously owned a 55-02, 44-02, and a skyline jo. the best description on the old dudepit was you get 80% of the bass for half the money and its probably not far off. The us production is flawless, great finish, great action set up, and controlled weight. The electrics are the same for both, but the us jo has a graphite reinforced neck and two dual contric pots which i prefer. Of the skylines I have had, there is not the same attention to detail, the little things, the soldering, they are made to a price, and some of the early ones were heavy. It depends how much you are prepared to pay extra for that certain little something. I love my jo but its not always the first one i would pick up. I think if I had the choice all over again, and the weighs were ok, i would probably have a skyline jo and a skyline glaub rather than a us jo.
