1.
What about a nice 12"er? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=102440 I'm GASing for that since i saw it on the sales topic but i think i'll keep my mind set on the STL-12T to cope with the 9'er Cheers
Not really what i'm after, but nice bit of kit anyway!
2.
Small, light, ceramic speaker loaded, nice punchy tone, easy schelp, and great price = TC RS210. If you want more 'meat and potatoes' go for the RS212. The HF on these cabs is VERY smooth and the cab itself is somewhere between vintage meets modern. Your notes are defined, but with a nice warmth.
Tried both, RS210 sounds a lot like the tecamp in the lower end of the spectrum, but the RS212 is much more like what i'm after. Loved it until I saw the pricetag (£500-ish).
3.
I've got a matching Mag 410" for sale - its a perfect match and a maneuverable 8x10" rig
Can you picture me playing the two 4x10 with the Peavey mark III at volume at my local? The propagating wavefront would dislodge bricks at short distance, and have me barred for life...
4.
Well, the Compact is £450... not sure if that's in or near your budget...
Unfortunately out for now. That's why i am fishing for alternatives. I've got to say that trying it out triggered all this process of getting rid of cabs I don't really like anymore. Surprisingly, I still have the cheapo ashdown 4x10 and actually like it!
5. Also, feather light is not really that important. As I said, 30kgs is an ok weight for a cab for me (that's just over 66lbs)
6.
It's £200 more than a Bergantino HS210?
To the best of my knowledge, they're no longer imported in the UK, but GAK still claim to have them for sale, and that's the price they quote...
7.
Light + warm + well-defined low end and low-mids, single cab solution for small to medium gigs = Barefaced Compact. Cheaper may be tricky, though.. I don't know how much the TecAmps are...
Yep, cheaper is the main point of contention here... The tecamp s210 is priced at around £780 new, can't afford or justify spending that much for a cab anymore. It's got to be less than half that.
8. I have decided to stop kidding myself and realize that the TecAmp cab I own and often use is just not for me. It's a S210, 4ohm version. It is a fabulous cab in most aspects, yet my playing and taste is quite old school, and I just can't get what I want from the cab, and its best features remain untapped IMO. Essentially, I am looking to draw on the communal knowledge here on BC, for advice and suggestions on a replacement for it when I get around to selling it. I am looking for something with more of a rock and vintage edge, with more emphasis on well-defined low end and low-mids. Also, I'd like it to be substantially cheaper, and not vastly bigger or heavier (i can lift a 30kgs cab). The main use of the tecamp has been as a single cab solution for small to medium gigs, so the new one should be able to do the same. I would use it with any of the amps or basses in my signature, and ideally it would be a reasonable match for the ashdown 4x10, should I ever need a full stack. I could add more unreasonable conditions, but i think i'm just going to stop for now. Thanks
9. One more for the westones! Hard to get a better bass for the money, even though modern squiers are close! Also, don't be afraid to pick up something a little unusual. Familiar designs and makes tend to command higher prices, in general.
10. I've tried the peavey max 158, and i've found it far superior to the pathfinder, which sounds like a cheap guitar amp with a bass through it IMO. The best of the cheap amps i've tried
11. Looks like I need to have it seen before I dive in and buy expensive replacement pickups and whatnots. Thank you all for the advice
12.
I had one of these, and wanted a bit more out of it too. Duff McKagan also uses one, and liking his tone, I replaced the J pickup with the Seymour Duncan he uses - think it was the STK-J2 the Hot Stack. Made a great deal of difference with both pickups on together. Obviously if you want to use the P pickup soloed, that too may need changing, but bear in mind that the Aerodyne is made of basswood (well mine was), which whilst good on low mids, doesn`t seem to have quite the same depth on the bottom end as alder/ash. This may be why it doesn`t seem to have the same effect on the lower notes.
Good pointers, cheers
13.
I am pretty sure that the stock pickups are ceramic so my suggestion is to swap them out for a matched set of alnico pickups. Or in terms of output it might be as simple as lowering the p pickup and raising the j.
I have tried lowering the p and raising the j, to underwhelming results. You can clearly hear the difference in volume as you cut off the j pup. I seem to recall reading that this is so "by design". Maybe i was just badly informed...
14. So i've owned this fender aerodyne precision for a few years now, it's beatifully finished, nice action, good neck, well balanced and weigh just the right amount. However nice it is, I often leave it on the guitar rack and pick up something else for both practices and gigs. Moreover, when I do use for practices or gigs, I find myself disappointed with the tone. I am particularly annoyed by the fact that the signal from the soloed p pickup is much stronger than the signal from the soloed j pickup, effectively denying me the option of switching to a jazz-y sound whitout changing bass. Also, the tone of the p pickup is a little off to my ears, and tend to get lost in the lower notes. So, instead of selling it and buying another bass, I was wondering if you could suggest some simple mod I could do to it to improve the tone. I'm not into active basses at all, so I was thinking about a pickup replacement and/or a different circuitry arrangement. Suggestions? Recommendations?
15. I realy like mine it. It's got all you need from a small practice amp, it sounds quite good at low volumes, it's got a simple drum machine built in, and some of the efects are lots of fun. The amp simulator gives you a few variations on the theme, it's even got a tuner. Just don't forget what it actually is: a small practice or busking amp. I tried it next to a line6 studio 110, and walked away with the roland. I don't need the power for home practice, and I found that the roland sounded just better to my ears.
16. I generally take only one passive bass to any gig I do. Never had any problems, other than picking one with the wrong tone for the gig... I doubt you'll need a backup for a solid P bass, unless you're into smashing it or use metal gardening tools on the strings
17.
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison, an oft requested song,
I don't dislike playing it, I just dislike the fact that we play it. Also: Sex on fire, but thankfully we almost definitely ditched it. Really. No seriously.
18. Some interest, but BUMP anyway

20. In my brief tenure in an old school ska band, I used an old epiphone et180 strung with flats, neck pickup, tone rolled off, and my peavey head into a 2x15 peavey cab. Phattastic.
21. Meaurements (WxDxH) are: Marshall: 57x36x90 "peavey": 60x33x68
22. I've found a pic of the "Peavey" cab. My guess at dimensions is 60x55x45. I'll confirm later today or tomorrow.
23. Looks like postage is going to be cheap, probably around £10 for mainland UK, and around £20 for NI and highlands/islands. That is for either cab, not both
24. I'll measure, check, and let you know. It could be less than you'd imagine, the marshall is not very heavy.
