Are Marleaux's six strings stupidly light too??
pantherairsoft replied to Schnozzalee's topic in Bass Guitars
I can't vouch for the Marleaux, but get the right builder and the right wood and a light 6 string is all good. I only play 6's now really and weight has been a big factor in finding the right bass. My Roscoe Fretless 6 is 9.1lbs and my RIM Marseer 6 is 8.6lbs. Both very light for 35" scale pro instruments (both lighter than an average Fender jazz 4). When Robbie built the RIM I had the option of having it chambered as well which would of made it even lighter!! Since I've been using a Comfort Strapp as well all basses feel about 1lb lighter than they really are! Shep -
Very nice dude, I miss the sound of my LittleMark/AguilarGS112 combination, amazing sound for the cash/size etc. Very happy with the little Promethean combo I replaced it with though too. How does the 10" handle the low B? Eude
Very well. I'm yet to gig it, but have cranked up at home and the low B is well defined. It looses some smoothness if I attack the string to hard on the low B, but as a 1x10 that's what I'd expect. It's not EBS... But it is the next best thing I've experienced! Very happy. Shep

My new home practice and small gig rig. A step away from EBS, I needed something I could carry and had a solid fat finger tone for acoustic funk gigs. This whole rig fits into a EA backpack and off I go! Damn sight better sounding than most mini practice combo's too... MarkBass LittleMark 250 EA Wizzy 10 Shep
...............you know that is not a bad idea................I will looking for someone soon..............
Where do I send my CV? -
Had a chat with Bernie this afternoon. A few delay's took place due to the temperature in the spray shop not being suitable for the poly laquer... this has now been sorted, and after a 2nd trip to the spray shop to get the finish exactly as we discussed, the bass is back with Bernie and having the final assembly done as we speak... Bass should be with me as soon as the temperature deems it suitable to be in the back of a couriers van, OR I can find a way to get down to Brighton (If anyone fancies a road trip, let me know!!!). I've been promised a pic later or tomorrow so watch this space

Cab Splitting,FX splitting, Signal Splitting

I have to agree with Dood here... Definately the easiest, cheapest and most effective way of achieving what you want without filling your signal chain with more technology than you can shake a stick at -
The Ashdown won't give you the grunt of the mini Ampeg, or the same amount of volume, but for the money its an AWESOME amp. Even better would be to buy this one http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=112388 Bargain! I had one for a while. Its light, compact and loud enough for small acoustic gigs or those without a loud drummer or guitarist. One of the best practice room amps about. Shep

Mark is a very knowledgable chap who is a pleasure to deal with. I've dealt with Bass Direct on many occasions and I'd never say Mark would deliberately talk over anyone. I'm sure Mark himself will agree that he does get a 'little' passionate about his products when he gets going (which I must add is a good thing!) and he does know a good bass tone. As such he will often point people towards alternate products if he thinks they would be worth you trying before commiting to a large purchase... and he is a fan of those Berg's. Nice to see this has already come to a positive result -
I wish I could afford one. Just want the LPF as I'm not entirely getting on with my FM4.
Different beast though. Depends what you use the FM4 for. The Moog LPF can do envelope filter/wah... But IMO not as well as my 3Leaf Groove Regulator. The LPF however, is the swell master... Its key for Super dub and synth tones. -
Yeah I am so excited about it. I love the overall simplicity aesthetically. I have always fancied a ramp and the lyminlays seem so cool. Have you heard about them yet? You basically shine a little torch on the side dots and they will illuminate for like half an hour
Yeah Robbie @ RIM is using them going forward. He posted some pics in his build thread recently in the affilates forum. He discovered them just after finishing my Marseer though. Doh. They are pretty funky.

Yeah, the bass has an active tone control, the pull control bypasses that and switches the bass to flat EQ'd Passive
A "bank loan" of moogerfoogers.
That wins. I'd like the 12 Stage Phaser as well... But will resist -
With all due respect Mr Cat, someones opinion on how it looks is wholly educated and justified! I wont buy a bass I dont like the looks of. Regardless of whether or not the functionality in some way accounts for it.
+1 to that. Functionality and sound are key, but if an instrument is unattractive then I wouldn't give it 2nd thought. There are lots of instruments out there. Find one that ticks all the boxes. Thankfully I find the 'odd' appearance of Dingwall's to be pretty cool!

I've ordered from them. It was sent the following day and arrived a day later via courier. Well packaged in a proper box. Set up was great where action was concerned and had definitely been checked over. The intonation was shocking though, it was miles out so I had to set the bass up again. No big deal as I've always wanted to set up a bass 'for me' when I've bought it. In my experience they have been the best online retailer to buy an instrument from. Shep
