I love my Stingray but it took a while to get used to after playing a Warwick and Spector for 15 years. Every time I pick it up I keep thinking I should be gigging with this as it feels, sounds and looks 'right'. Unfortunately I can't get past my Status at the moment which is my 'go to' bass.

I've just taken delivery of a Mono gig bag (single bass) and first impressions are that the build quality is top notch. I'll still be using a hard case for gigs but this will be ideal for rehearsals and jamming sessions when all I need to carry is a bass, lead & strap.

Really enjoyed reading your review - very informative and well put. Cheers.

I used a Trace AH400SMX with Mesa Boogie 1x15 & 2x10 cabs for years and was reasonably happy with my sound....until I changed my main gigging bass and then the combination just didn't work for me. I'm really happy with my current Markbass (MoMark) amp and Bergantino AE410 cab and can't see myself changing this.
-
My amp cost approx 70% of the cost of my cab (see Sig) however, as a previous post highlighted, this may be due in part to a premium on neo cabs. Still very happy with both.

I orIginally went to Bass Direct with the intention of purchasing a pair of Berg 112's but took Mark's advice to go for the AE410 instead. I'm glad I did as it works well with my MoMark for the rock covers band that I'm in. I think all of the Bergs are top quality gear, however I guess it's also down to personal preference and perhaps hitting lucky with matching it to your amp, bass and playing style.

New Amp - MoMark. Plus amp history/review/pics. Lots of pics!

Another member of the MoMark fan club here. In fact my set up isn't too dissimilar to your's, although I've got the 500w frame. I'd been using Trace and Mesa gear and the difference when switching to Mark Bass and Bergs has been a revelation. I started out with the solid state pre-amp then replaced it with the tube pre-amp which I like even better. I've never been one for frequently changing amp and cab(s) and love the fact that I've been able to keep the best bits of my amp and change its tone for only £100. Brilliant! -
If you like the look of headless then go for it. It takes no time at all to get used to. I've also found the tuning on my S2 to be more stable than on all of the headed basses I've owned over the years.

Me: Perhaps you could try singing the song in the same key but an octave lower than the original, as you seem to be struggling on the odd note? (trying to be as polite as possible at a rehearsal where the singer's face and neck were bright red due to the strain of trying, and failing, to sing the main vocal in tune). Singer: Yeah, but I just don't think I'd be doing the song justice if I did that. Me: Hang on, you think you would be doing the song more justice by singing it out of tune than by singing it in tune an octave lower? Singer: Yeah.

I usually order strings from Status 2-3 times a year and haven't had any issues. Try giving them a call.

I've not been gigging this bass for a while now so I've reluctantly decided its time to put it up for sale. New price £650, including hard case and UK mainland shipping. Please PM me if interested. Update: I bought this bass new in 2003 and understand that the year of manufacture is likely to have been 2002. Consequently it will have the Aguilar pre-amp rather than the original Spector Tone Pump as I originally had thought. Apologies for any confusion caused. Welcome aboard!

I've got 5 basses at the moment - one 5 string and four 4 string. The Status is my main gigging bass with the Stingray or Thumb taken as a backup and for occasional use where a different tuning is needed. The others get played regularly at home as I enjoy playing them all.
-
Here's my current set: (L-R) Spector Euro 4, Stingray, Status Series 2, Warwick Thumb (1990 NT), Overwater Aspiration 5 Deluxe. Currently using the Status (main bass) and Stingray for gigging although the Overwater may make an appearance soon (I've only recently picked up this one).

Apart from some high end (expensive) ones I've yet to see a LED par can that can match the defined beam you get from a traditional par 64 can. Having said that, the advantages of LED's far outweigh those of traditional bulbs IMO (we use both in my pub covers band). The 3W tri-colour LED's seem to be the best that are widely available at the moment and I think these will cost more that the equivalent 8 x par 64 plus stands and basic controller set up (ive seen this for £500-£600 new). Having said that I would still go for LED's as it would probably be easier to add to and control.

Just picked up a Deluxe 5 for my first sortie into the 5 string area. First impressions are very good but unfortunately I've got no gigs or band rehearsals due for another 3 weeks so not yet been able to find out how it sounds through my gigging rig.
Very tempting. I could try the drive to bass direct. Thing is the long solo drive is a bit scary (new driver) plus the petrol price for the return journey is steep when I wouldnt be buying from Mark (sadly much cheaper from thomann). Migh be a fun road trip for me 'n Dave though.
I drove to Bass Direct from Newcastle. IME the scariest thing was how much I was tempted to spend while I was there.

I got mine from Bass Direct (Warwick) -500w power frame, solid state pre-amp (w/mute switch), blank EQ section and VPF/VLE on output stage. It was more expensive than a LM3 but I was prepared to pay this for the ability to swap out/upgrade the power amp and/or modules if I wanted to. I've had mine for approx 18 months and use it to go backline only in my pub covers band. It's a great amp IMO and I've been very happy with it. I've since changed the pre-amp to a tube pre-amp on a whim and found like the sound of this even better. I ordered it from Mark at BD on the Friday morning, it arrived the next morning and was swapped out 5 minutes later - job done!
