  1. Congrats, looks like a really lovely little rig. I'm very happy with mine, small, light (for a valve amp) and (at least into the Ashdown 212 I use mine with), loud anough for a gig, albeit with a relatively restrained Americana band. Sounds lovely too. Really nice break up when you push it.
  2. Thanks for all the thoughts and advice folks. Very helpful. I'm going to be in the smoke for a few days next week, so I'll try and audition a few of these suggestions from the many helpful local pedal retailers therein.
  3. I've got a Boss pedal that I use 'always on' to get a little bit of breakup into the tone. I need this OD for one specific song where I do a little riff at the top. Sounds nice ehough clean, but I just want to lift it a bit...
  4. Hello folks, I'm looking for a distortion pedal to do a nice warm bluesy drive sound. Any thoughts? I've also been looking for a Cali compressor pedal. They seem to be quite expensive secondhand atm, so I was thinking of maybe a rack mounted DBX 160A. In fact for the same money that one of the secondhand Cali's is going for, I could buy a DBX 165, which is a lot of compressor.....Thoughts?
  5. I've got two of these, albeit fretted ones. The only P bass I've played-IMHO at any rate- which was noticeably better was a '64. Just a superb bass for very little money. GLWTS.
  6. Anyone used this chap? https://www.richardmeyrickguitars.co.uk
  7. It is indeed a wonderful machine. Very versatile and very, very loud...
  8. Please. Its a SMALL coffee house and we're the third band on....🤣
  9. Trying to decide what to use this weekend....
  10. First amp i ever bought, sometime in the early eighties. Two words to describe it: Shite, and shite.
  11. So thats a single 15? Mine was the 2 12 version. I was never sure that it wasn't actually a guitar cab funnily enough, but it certainly did the business in terms of sound. It had electrovoice 12's in it iirc. Made in Buchanan, MI. They were the days.....😃
  12. I used to have one of those Musicman boxes. Wonderful device. Got it from the Bass Centre in the late eighties. Came in a flightcase, ex Entwhistle apparently. Due to lack of space after a subsequernt flat move I had to sell both that and my 810 Trace box (made in Essex). Sorriest move I ever made. regret it to this day....
  13. My experience FWIW. I flew to Spain last week. Bought a seat for the bass- an old Aria Precise- which was cheaper than putting it in the hold. £41 vs £50 and of course it stayed with me at all times. Shockingly straightforward, nobody batted an eyelid at security, on the plane, etc etc. There are instructions on how to book a seat for a guitar on the Ryanair website. I had no trouble with customs at all. There should be no need for a carnet with just a bass, as this comes under your 'personal belongings' allowance.
  14. Lovely looking bass, GLWTS.
  15. recently purchased Sean's PJB cabinet off him and what a beast it is. I'm not sure my back (or my wife) will ever forgive me! Sean was very easy to deal with and everything was exactly as he said it would be. Many thanks.
  16. Bought Lawries Marshall head. Very easy transaction, excellent basschatter. Many thanks.
  17. Just bought Marks BBP34 off him. Exemplary basschatter, the bass is exactly as described and I'm very happy. Would not hesitate to do business again. Also really liked the fact that Mark refused to take a deposit on the bass 'you've said you want it, its yours'. A man after my own heart!
  18. Spot on I reckon. If you look at the video you can see the back plate at one point. Phenomenal and unconventional woodwork on these basses. The neck extends into the body pretty much to the bridge- hence the enormous brass plate.
  19. Bought Richards Ashdown little bastard and 2x12" cab. Lovely chap, very easy to deal with . even met me at Peterborough services to make my life easier. Many thanks to a top basschatter.
  20. Nice wood looks nice and allows us all to therorise in a quasi mystical way on how those purpleheart stringers in the neck make the tone more 'shimmery'? 😆😆
  21. Anyone used Robbie Gladwell in Sudbury (Dr Roberts guitar surgery) for amplifier repairs?
  22. Lovely and unusual bass. GLWTS!
  23. lovely looking bass. GLWTS
  24. Hello Folks, I've recently aquired a rather lovely BB1200 and I'd appreciate some advice about a suitable truss rod wrench. Any ideas as to what size they are and where I could source one? Apologies if this has been asked before. I did a search but couldn't see an answer. Many thanks Stuart
  25. Hiya, I'm interested in the PJ set with the longer J pickup. Would you be able to send me dims pls? Many thanks Stuart.
