1. i recently acquired a 55-02. just wondering from the vast experience on this forum, your experiences of how both basses compare. apart from the obvious pickup arrangement. . I'm thinking the later plek'd basses but any thoughts are welcome. i know some JO5's can be heavy, but i was wondering how the neck compares, scale length etc. does the JO5 have a preamp.?. any thoughts generally. thanks.
2. Seems i have a scratching noise coming from the input on my Aguilar when i move the lead or spin the jack.. i know close to zero about amp tech. any ideas what this might be. is it an easy fix.. i have a repair guy in mind but don't want to go to him if i don't need.. Or could it be my lead i ask myself.?
3.
Do I Do is such a brilliant bassline. Here's another favourite, Boogie On Reggae Woman... Transcribed in Bass Player mag December 2007 by Bryan Beller, who describes it as the most challenging bassline ever transcribed in the mag to date.
excellent.!! a joy to listen to.. i wonder if he used Tonto.? this was created for him in the late 70's
4.
When i listen to these it makes me feel as tho I'm wasting my time .
i used to think that, then i thought i enjoy what i do. i bet even Stevie Wonder thinks he's not as good as he could be. the eternal musicians conundrum.
5.
Add to that he most likely can play the chords, the baseline and sing it live as good as the recording all at once
well with my connections. I've heard he recorded this whole song while playing this bass line, i have my doubts to be honest. i just sounds to seamless sound wise.. no doubt he could prob do it, but not with that much improvisation.
6. very very reminiscent of a certain european youtube sensation, but a good remix of this Micheal Jackson classic all the same. the guy on that Nord is just mind bendingly good at 2.30. actually everything is great on this..
7.
It's worth coming in here just to see what you post Bubinga. Beautiful. Here's another - https://www.youtube....h?v=0ItPnIG6abg
love it.. great album. his voice is just… thanks man. nothing to do with his bass lines. but just an excuse to post the full 9.30 minutes of this magic. Nate Watts's bassline is just out there. I've heard his bassline isolated with just the drums and its so beautifully played. if there was ever an epic song, this is it, imo. when i first heard this it just blew me away.
8. absolutely incredible synth bass line by Stevie imo.. ok its not on the electric bass, but a bass line is a bass line. the changing between chords are fantastic. and his voice is just incredible. this is not an easy bassline to play on a 4 string.
9. My current and only (decent) amp I've ever owned Aguilar 500 with a 212. as soon as i heard it i loved it. it just sounds so good with a Lakland 55-02 and most basses I've owned. This amp was actually run over 3 years ago by a car.literally ran all the way over it, it totally trashed the bag, (and yes it was just a bag) but the amp, bar a few scratches, has been working perfectly ever since. incredible.!!. i can part with basses, but i would never ever part with my Aguilar.
10.
Just an observation, there being some very nice stuff here - but most of it is 20+ years old. I relate to all of it, being a soul 'n' reggae freak; but I'm old- what happens with those that follow us on, where is it going, and with whom? I was lucky to be starting with Bowie, Clapton, Chris Squire, Peter Green, Brian Auger, Jon Hiseman, Matt Ross, and many other fine (and forgotten) heroes - I worry that I'm not seeing this calibre of talent emerging today - somebody please tell me I'm wrong!
im a bit confused you would use those names in a thread called Funk and Groove.? any ways the funk is alive and well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0H4mL3OW-4
11. its just not as easy to listen to as Brown Sugar and not as Hip Hop like Voodoo., but man is it as good. the music is so interesting from song to song, but it is a slow burner. i was waiting to see what he did next for a long time. well it was 14 years. , it didn't hit me at first, just a few listens and there it is. not every song blows me away, but albums like that are rare. this record is just superb. there is so much going on. his voice and piano playing. he's one of the greats imo,. and Pinos playing is just super cool.
12. just a superbly moving piece of music and film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFscYYRsNnQ
13. its probably the saddest song I've ever heard. always gets me. A modern classical masterpiece imo. Wojciech Kilar. Love Remembered from Bram Stoker's Dracula. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xop_FRJUOPQ
14. an obvious Lalo classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL-WCKw9jwg
15. Dope. ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g4DO6co0II
16. for anyone who might be interested, here is Ski Oakenfold, ( Incognito) deconstructing Rod Tempertons masterpiece. i find it fascinating.
17.
There's a great reissue of Thriller containing interviews with Rod. He's someone who should be more celebrated than he is.
i agree he's very unknown to a lot of people. but produced/played on some of the greatest music ever written. but i guess you could say that for a lot of the great musician/producers. apart from quincy jones i guess. when people think Micheal Jackson Thriller, Rod Temperton is not a name that springs to mind..
18. Wow, some of the best funk I've ever heard. Rod and Johnnie Wilder were a funk force. you can really hear Rod Temperton's influence on this record, with the strings and general musicality. he just seems to add that something to a record. i guess thats why Thriller sounds so good. its what i call (in my musical vocabulary) classy sh*t.
19.
Does anyone know what this is? It was my first ever bass, and I've still got it to remember how truly, shockingly, humiliatingly bad a bass can be. I haven't changed anything on it, partially because I don't like having to acknowledge it exists. The guy who had it before me described it as 'a bit tatty' and I paid £20 for it. Real money. It's just awful in every way. Apocalyptically so. I can go in to detail about how it looks and sounds, but I'll only do so by request because it'll just be upsetting. Here are some shots of this abomination. I'd say 'I'll let the pictures speak for themselves', but if these pictures could speak they'd probably just scream swear words until you looked away in disgust and vitriolic anger. Here we go: I'm sorry you had to see that. Seriously though, what is this thing? 1980s department store catalogue? Poorly made school project? North Korea's latest attempt to bring down the West? Any knowledge would be great!
is that the new Fender for 2015.? kidding of course.
20. I think Leo would turn in his grave.
21.
I mean... seriously, Fender? This looked dated when you did it for Victor Bailey ten years ago. Now it just looks like an anachronism. Honestly, they're losing the plot.
that body wood matching is odd. is that a 2 piece body that is cut unequally.?
22.
To me, his 'widdly bits' (technical term...) at 1:42 and 1:48 don't fall back into the 'pocket'. After his chromatic run down at 1:56, though, he's back 'on it', but the singer comes in half a bar too early. The drummer should know what went on that day, and should have 'locked it down'. What does the drummer think happened..?
there is something not right there, and with all respect its the bassists timing maybe. and i think the singer is following his lead.
23. Dimarzio Ultra Jazz, Sadowsky Single coils, lindy Fralins.? they will all sound great depending on your budget.? Wizards are great too. a lot cheaper also. your budget is the question. i like Nordstrand single coils.
24. bump
25.
Fanned afficionado diehard?
aficionado. a person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, about an activity, subject, or pastime. other words…. authority, connoisseur, specialist.
