1. no doubt. so atmospheric. and so perfect, for the scene that it comes from. great disjointed jazzfunk that is so well played and written. its all in the build up. a musical score genius of the era is Lalo Schifrin imo.
2. This is a specific song that at first i couldn't work out why with my timing, where i was going wrong.. but having listened to it properly, i think the bassist by accident or meant to do it, is playing behind the beat then playing on the beat. but loosing his way. its in 4/4 time obviously. then at 1.35 the solo starts.. if you count 1234 all the way until the singing starts, its just off., i know him and he's my predecessor, but i just can't quite work out what he's doing. i get the feeling that he's in a solo and lost time slightly and the singer is just waiting for the bass line. ? what do you think.? not knocking his playing was just interested to hear what others think. its at 1.35. like i said count the 4 bar beat until he starts singing. 3.
I'd like to think that! But there are plenty of examples from other consumer products that suggest otherwise. Here's one from the world of car manufacture, where stuff is generally made to precise specifications by robots... http://www.theguardi...-cars-worldwide It only takes one 'bug' in the system for problems to become amplified in mass production runs. The % of products with errors might be no different to that of a smaller manufacturer, but the quantity will be greater because of the greater number of items being produced. We notice this in the products we source at work. Smaller manufacturers tend to produce less faulty stuff by volume in comparison to larger firms - partly due to percentages, but also I think because it's easier to apply quality control if you're making less 'stuff'. But it also tends to mean you have smaller profit margins and need to charge more But whatever. The P-bass I own is a beauty, so I have no complaints about Fender.
you explained it better than i did.
4. at there London driven prices i doubt it.
5.
0.1 percent of 10000 instruments is 10 0.1 percent of 1000 instruments is 1 If a shop had 1 brand X bass and 10 Fenders you could be unlucky enough for all 11 basses to be rubbish
I'm really not clever enough to work out what you just posted then Pete..
6.
Nothing to do with the detail, all down to consistency. Maybe you would make a sh*t guitar, but you would make every guitar as sh*t as each other, it would become a commodity item.
sure but consistency doesn't always mean quality. that was Skol303's point
7.
that makes no sense. The more you make the more uniform they should be. They produce a fraction of the number of normal consumer items, all of which would be expected to have much higher quality control and be more consistent.
to be honest, and with respect this makes no sense to me. the more you make of something the more detail and quality gets lost. making an instrument 1000000 times, is bound to have consequences on quality with a huge manufacturing process like Fender has.. can they keep a track of every machine, jig, employee that is making there instruments.? Martin Peterson of Sei on the other hand, has total control over what he makes. just an extreme example.
8.
Sorry, reread my post and I really didn't mean to be quite so much of a dick/twat/knob (delete as applicable) Apologies :-*>
Ditto. Absolutely no problem buddy.
9. I'm really not knocking other peoples instruments. I just don't seem to have found the Fender I really wanted to play.
10. I'm sure it is Goucho that is renowned for many session players, playing on it.? Correct,?
11.
I think that like in the musicman thread you seem to be having a bit of a stir, at least in this thread you've elaborated rather than starting a fire and wandering off though. Once again with the fanboy stuff though, very easy way to dismiss others.
I certainly do not stir anything mate. I've got better things to do. Def not my intention. If I don't get back to a topic I've posted, it's because I either don't get time, or I have forgotten I posted it. Also really don't take forums that seriously. I appologise for the fan boy comment.
12.
Well, bubinga 5, UglyDog, etc, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. No need for me to rethink anything. Incidentally, which Lakland 'design' is different to those of Leo Fender? From what I can see, essentially there is only one source of inspiration, which of course, is Leo Fender. Looking at the new ten D Lakin guitars shown on the Bass Direct website, with the exception of a very minor revison of the headstock, they are identical to the Precision and Jazz. Dan Lakin, of course also 'designed' the Lakland bases and sold his business a few years ago. Now that he's started up again, he's introduced clones of the Jazz and Precision. I wonder why he did this? Is his ability in design limited, or has he, like so many of the plagiarisers, 'stolen' a fomulae that is proven to suceed? And whether Fender are here tomorrow is irrelevant. It doesn't alter the history of the influence of Leo Fender and Fender guitars over the last 60 years.
did Leo Fender ever make a Double soap Bar pickup in the shape of a 55-01 with a preamp.? no they didn't. But Lakland did. as well as a few more originals. i think the Fender Fan boy vibe, never really goes down well. like i said I'm not knocking them. there just not for me anymore.
13. Oh jeez. Chill out. Know one is knocking them. Anyone would think someone has insulted your family. And by the way Lakland aren't too lazy to make there own designs. Think you should have a rethink.
14.
The Fender Jazz and Precision (and Strat) have been the inspiration for virtually every guitar manufacturer that exists.. The world of guitars would not be the same without the magic, ingenuity and skill of Leo Fender. It has been so easy for the Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian and the plethora of other lazy/envious/cheap skate manufacturers everywhere to replicate what are now iconic designs/instuments. If all these other manufacturers are so good, why don't they come up with something different? They don't because they can't. And if they've tried, in most cases they've failed. OK, so some poeple don't like or want a Fender. But often they want a copy. Sometimes better made, somtimes cheaper. There isn't anything made where these two requirements can't be obtained. Well so what! Fender have been making guitars for 60 years or more and Fender may not be here for ever. I hope they are. But Fender knockers, please, give it a rest! Let's see how many of the plagiarisers are here in another 60 years and how many guitars they've sold.
15. i never had a favourite band. but these come close. was playing this album earlier today with my nieces , and later on they were singing the sax part of this. they asked me," what is the song was about uncle Andrew". i didn't want to begin to explain.i think that might up for debate.? everyone has there opinion on this record. more importantly, i hope they absorb this music and it has the same effect later on in there life, that it has for me. its just wonderful music. i don't want to smother them with music i love, but i don't think any harm will come from listening to it. Aja is next.
16. that is stunning. i think i might have P Bass Gas.
17. these don't come up for sale very often. especially a fretless Q5
18. Sandberg really know how to do this relic vibe. the detail they go to is superb.
19. why its taken me this long after 15 Fenders to get to this way of thinking,? I'm not sure. maybe playing a Lakland J04 was the beginning of the end . i know I'm fed up with trying to find a good one. the conclusion is there are builders out there who can do that (my favourite tone) 70's jazz bass tone, but way better construction. I'm done with Fender. I've experienced too much sh*t. if i had played Lakland's or Sadowsky's all this time i wouldn't be posting. i still want a good Fender P Bass, but the Fender Jazz is just not for me anymore. I'm sure there are some great Fenders out there but I'm bored of trying to find one. Give me a interpretation any day. show me a Fender that can match a Lakland or the better copies and i will play it. until then i will say goodbye to Leo.
20. wow. the groove is amazing. love the reggae feel they turn it into. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9BD3JS2DRI
21.
Have you tried the latest model US Standard Fender Jazz Bass V? They've solved the B issue.
Hmm ive played one at Guitar Guitar, and to be honest it was just as floppy as any other Fender 5 string. not sure if its got to do with the way the saw there necks.? it just didn't feel tight and focused like an SR5's B string.
22. one of the best instruments in the world IMO. amazing B string. fat and warm. i loved my old SR5. mine was heavy though. supreme feel and tone. wish it had more tone wise but it is what it is.. The Lakland 55 is a better instrument imo, better string spacing and just and only just, a better neck. but it can't quite get that SR5 tone. this lovely bass i miss. ended up trading it for a Modulus VJ4. what a mistake that was. But Lakland vs Music Man.. Lakland every time.
23. Anita Bakers finest bass player.
24. I'm going to Berlin on the 22nd, for a friends birthday. anyone recommend a good shop i can try out some instruments.?
25. amazing 6 string Ibanez. I've played many of these and they are superb. great pre amp.
