7.
wheres it gone? it appears to no longer be on his site
Sold or pulled?
8.
+1
And me. Pointless.
9.
If you've had a standard Rick 4001 or 4003 with binding and high-gains, these sound a little different. Lovely bass BTW. Oh, and I believe the necks got bigger around '97, although fellow Rick Resourcers would no doubt correct me. I had a '96 CS with a very thin neck and a '98 V63 with a very chunky neck.
True! The CS is the same 'footprint' as the V63 and, like you, I have owned both with the same features as you describe. I'll never understand why RIC did that: fatten the neck and make the 'cresting wave' shorter. This also makes the pre '96-'97 CS more sought-after than the later ones with the fatter neck. My current V63 is just like this fella, great colour. Have a Sunday bump on me.
10. I use a heavy rubber band just past the nut but that basic capo looks it would do the job better. Great basses. HAve a bump on me!
11. The toaster has less output than the high gain and it is what makes the 4001 sound most appealling to me. Chris Squire ran his old RM1999 for years with just the front pup.

Itchy trigger finger means this HAS to shift. Open to reasonable offers.
14. Reckon they must be .045-.110. Dunno what they are (got 'em off a mate to try out) but they have black thread. One set was put on but I took 'em off right away as they ain't for me. £25 sees them all in the post to you and I'll chuck in a small selection of roundwounds as a buckshee.
15. Some of us have GAS, mate. Just went and bought something else in your absence but if your man can give us the skinny on those blotches..............
16.
I knew of one place where an employee told me they often stripped the guitars of the extras like straps, leads and even gig bags and hard cases then flogged them separate for beer money! Terrible that
I know that some shops up here kept them back and chucked them in as deal-sealers on low priced kit. But those Fender good-bags with the T-handled hex rod were never given away!
17. Sh**, those BC prices are scary! I'd rather hold off and get those Grecos that pop up on ishibashi from time to time. Nice binding, though. Would be nice to see the rear.

John Hall will be wetting hisself when he see this!
19. looks like the 'luthier' doesnt have say via the OP. Nothing via PM either. ilm out of this.
20. HAs the luthier attempted to remove these marks? Does he know how far they go through the finish?
21. Can you post some larger pix, please? The body I ordered has disappeared; refund came today! :-(

24. the 4001 truss rod is an ellipse, a bit like a hairpin. One end of that is threaded and is what the nut locks onto. The slightly shorter other end lies on top and butts up against a small aluminium plate. As the rod is tightened, that top section flexes upwards. If the neck is not moved into position manually and the rods are tightened, this could cause the inlays and indeed the fingerboard to pop. Anyone here old enuff to remember if RIC stated this in their manuals in the '60s/'70s?
