1. That's a stunner
Anyone have any other scratchplate suggestions?
Perspex
2. Been looking into this as I recently obtained a cheapo short-scale as a compact living-room beater, and the standard scale strings on it sound dreadful, even after my ham-fisted "set-up" Anyhoo, seems Fender 5250XL's are what are standard the Bronco. I plan on giving them a shot on my shortie
3. +1 for 1mm Dunlops... I tried many a pick and hated picking before eventually settling on the black Dunlops, and am now reasonably competant. Stubbies have absolutely no flex and just kill my grip, even the 1mm ones. They may suit some folks, possibly with ape-like fingers and absolutely no sensation of pain in their hands
4. My band's been covering this for the last little while, but the Foo Fighters version... In drop "D", the chorus needs open low D a few times, then slide on bottom string from 5th to 10th fret, descending bit slides from 10th to 7th to 5th fret. Verse "winding your way..." play your higher D open, then 2nd fret, then 5th fret. For the tricky sounding bit, play an open low D, then slide up the A string to 8th fret, then 5th fret on A string, then 7th fret on low D, then 5th fret low D. That's the basics, the rest is just variations. I know, this looks like gibberish to me too. First time I've ever tabbed from memory EDIT: I evidently don't know my choruses from my verses
5. Both items tentatively gone, will confirm once they're away...
6. Found the Warwick Security straplocks that I struggled to fit on my MM Jazz bass. They're black, metal, have a sort of push-button release, and don't come with any screws due to aforementioned struggling, but are complete apart from the screws. First offer of £2.50 for postage by Paypal gets them. Also inspired by the "Bassists Who (pedal) Bike" thread, I've got a Specialized Turbo Elite (with cadence) wireless cycle computer going spare. It came with a bike I bought used, but I have an excessively complex Garmin jobby so it came off straight away. It was working fine when I last used it, and comes with the computer, plastic blister pack, cadence sensor/bar mount and cable (never used, and for some reason the cadence bit is wired), wheel magnet, manual and standard handlebar mount. £3.50 by Paypal and it's all yours.
7. Tomorrow night at 2140, may be of interest to some, even if the first in the series is about the singer... Is it naive of me to hope for an episode dedicate to low-end rumbly types? A six part series will surely have room for the bass... Any speculation on what the other parts will be about? I'd guess drummist, guitards, bassist, manager... but that only adds up to five. Roadies?
8. Me Mk1 c. 1992 Hohner Arbor MX... and odd Precision/Musicman hybrid thing in GREEN (not green) with huge soap bars. Bought for £70 from a mate. Still have it, weighs a ton and has a neck like a banana, both in curvature and profile, so it's been retired to under the bed. My "amp" was an Aiwa hifi, which I connected to the mic socket using a 1/4" to 3.5mm jack adaptor, and could only get sound from if I set the cassette deck to record, which meant I had to reach into the tape player and press the little copy protection lever by hand. Was loud enough to p1ss off the neighbours. Happy days Me reborn c. 2004 Hohner JJ Pro bought off JPJ on here. Loved it - great bass, massive output, sold it for what I paid coz a colleague of a friend offered to buy it and it wasn't getting used after the Marcus arrived. As far as I know it's still being gigged around Edinburgh. Amp was a Behringer BT108 practice amp, highly contemptible. I suspect it was just their starter/beginners/childs guitar amp with a new product code. Quickly replaced by an Ashdown EB180.
9. I have one, it's been my main playing bass for the last two years or so. My thoughts... Positives Looks great - I've yet to find someone who doesn't love the look Makes a good noise - I use the P pup only, with the tone full up Plays well - Action could be lowered, but as I play heavyish rock on it with pick, I'm happy Tuning is as solid as a rock, even being dragged from gig to practice in a cheap ritter gigbag in winter Negatives No body contours - this is the big killer for most people who love the Aero... if you can't get comfy with it, it'll kill your right wrist in no time Noise - mines hums a bit, but I assume this is just down to grounding/shielding Problems Connecting wire to jack snapped - easily soldered back on Plastic nut is now worn at A string position, so the string can slip out when giving it the beans All in, i love mine. If you can get on with the lack of contouring it's a fantastic bass. I got mine during the Great Ishibashi Frenzy of 2007 when the Yen was broken, so it only owes me about £350, when they were selling for £620 in local emporia Hope you get a go on one and like it
10. First time anything I've put on here hasn't sold in short order. Damn you credit crunchiness... £35 posted?
11.
Does this have any way of attaching a footswitch for tap tempo? and then a MIDI out for the tempo??
Hmmm, I've considered your question, and my honest answer is... wat? Not being the most techy, I can tell you there's two 1/4" jacks on the back marked "footswitch", one for Mute and one for Select. Previously when messing (very occasionally) with the metronome tempo I've tapped on a button on the front, but being a tuner I mainly used it for tuning As for MIDI gubbins, if there was a shrug smiley I'd use it. I don't think there is, but these devices get cleverer by the day do they not? So who knows. But I doubt it There's definitely no DIN connectors on there. I suspect the internet may yield significantly more technically salubrious answers than I can provide. Sorry about that...
12. For sale, my Behringer rack tuner/metronome/LED racklight/box 'o tricks. It's a couple of years old but has seen very little use due to me not getting a rack head, and me buying a Korg pedal tuner In very good condition, just a couple of minor marks on the bottom of it as it's never been rack mounted. As always, I've lost the manual, but I'm fairly sure t'interweb will have one on it. £35 posted?
13. A minus for Interparcel I'm afraid... Used their online system yesterday morning to book a collection that day via DHL. Waited by my desk all day, got to 4PM, I phoned them. They were helpful on the phone, got in touch with DHL and I was told the collection van was still out. Got to cutoff time 5PM, and lo and behold, no collection, and Interparcels phoneline is only open until 5PM! Phoned them 1st thing this morning, again rep was helpful on the phone, she got in touch with DHL who told them there was no package to collect. I asked why this was, and the Interparcel person speculated that it could be because my work address is difficult to find. As it's on the same street as the DHL depot I find that hard to believe. I tried to get her to upgrade me to a guaranteed collection-time service, which she refused to do. I pointed out that I was slightly annoyed as I believed the "receipt" I got from Interparcel indicated that as I had paid for it, my parcel would be collected on the day. She then told me that Interparcel can't guarantee to collect parcels. As in, at all. As in they have no legal obligation to do what you've paid for! I checked their T&C's and there was no mention of this. Cancelled the delivery, will use Royal Mail tonight. I'm lettering their Customer Service Manager, but don't expect to get much satisfaction. A shame, as I've used Interparcel before for DHL services and they've been fine. Oh well...
14. Bump for this as it used to be mine. Glad to hear you got some good use out of it Richard, and that you stuck those flats on it as you planned... I imagine it'd sound pretty damn woody, as it even sounded pretty fat on rounds! Anyways, I've still got hi-rez photos of it if anyone wants them
15. I always end up doing this when an HA3500 comes up, but then either someone else gets there first, or something comes up financially... So, any chance of a delivered price on the head alone? Ta!
16. I have a Pocket Rock-it and had a Korg Pandora. I sold the Pandora as it simply done more than I needed to thru headphones, and needed too many wires! That and I suck at FX The Pocket Rock-it is handy as it sits on the bass, but as Mottlefeeder says it spins around a bit if you're jack's not on the top. As for sound quality, the supplied headphones aren't the best (but I'm not a fan of open-back, on the ear designs), I use mine thru a pair of cheapo, big-assed £5-from-asda-Phillips headphones, and a pair of Shure E2G's, and it sounds fine, but it does hiss. I just ignore it, as I can't hear the hiss when I'm playing. I recommend the PR for price and portability, I'll not be getting rid of mine in any hurry I think they've brought out some new style Pocket Rock-its, but I'd heard they were more expensive.
17. On behalf of my guitarist. It's in Edinburgh if anyone wants to try it, and I think he'll let it go for £400... with original box, gigbag etc. Recently imported '58 reissue Fender Stratocaster Crafted in Japan (ref ST58-80TX). £425 or nearest offer. Specs: 3 tone sunburst finish Maple neck Alder body USA Texas Special 'hot' pickups It's a strat so you know the rest. This model is from the premium range of Japanese strats. The standard models have basswood bodies and standard Vintage USA pickups. The standard models are on sale online (and in Edinburgh) for £480 new, so you'd be getting a superior guitar for a cheaper price if you buy this one. This guitar has only been in the country 2 months, it's been set up to play by a guitar tech and is in immaculate condition. It's barely been played so is as new. My reason for selling is that I've been playing a Gibson for a while now and the strat just doesn't suit me, unfortunately. I'd keep it but I need to sell it to buy another back up for gigging and this guitar deserves to be played! Many people feel that the quality of Fender Japan is comparable with the USA-made strats, and certainly superior to the Made in Mexico 'standard' strats. Check the numerous forums if you are in doubt. You cannot buy a Japanese Fender in a guitar shop in this country so these are hard to come by unless you import them yourself. This guitar will cost you about £450 to import yourself and more if you buy it from an online dealer. You're welcome to try before you buy, something you can't do before you import it so it pays to try this one first, and you'll be saving a little bit of money. No time wasters please. Happy to answer queries.
18.
Hello, thanks for all the comments re postage. let me explain my situation. Are you sitting comfortably? I have actually found a box and some packing material that this will fit in but at the moment there is zero chance of me being at home during the week for a courier to collect it and due to an ill relative I have to be on standby to leg it to the West Midlands at short notice. basically it's almost imposible for me to commit to being in half a day waiting for a courier. Sorry to be a pain. Regards R.
Hi Rumple, thanks for the reply:) I know what you mean, having to hang around sucks, tho I've had stuff collected from my workplace before by a courier recommended on here with good results. And if it's a REAL problem, you could always entrust it to ParcelFarce, who I've never had any real prob with, but the horror stories here put me off! You just march into their office, lob the parcel at them (politely!), cough up, and bob's yer It's highly unlikely I'll be in London before the New Year to collect, so let me know if you want to ship it, as my local lead's gone cold. Cheers, r
19.
exactly, it would cost only £7 for parcel2go to collect if from your address, tracking number and everything, infact, even the buyer could arrange that, provided you're in on the collection day.
Spot on I was going to mention that I'd be happy to arrange the courier provided the seller could put it in a box, print out a label and be around for a courier to collect it. However I might have a chance at another for £160 that's local, which would be nice
20. Absolutely no chance of couriering this out?
21. I have a real hankering for one of these, having played several in shops - they're ace, and £180 is a good price with the hardcase included. However my GAS is taking me to an Aerodyne Jazz bass at the moment, unfortunately. Have a free bump tho
22. Having went thru a phase of not knowing which to buy, I definitely found the MIJ/CIJ nicer to play that the MIM. I too was going to go down the buy a Standard and upgrade, but then made the mistake of trying a Marcus Miller. Then I made the mistake of going into my local guitar shop the day someone accidentally put the secondhand price on a brand new Miller Needless to say I bought it! If you can be bothered with the hassle, importing a CIJ/MIJ is fairly easy, there are a few threads on BC just now dealing with it. I'm likely going to be getting an Aerodyne Jazz thru Ishibashi, cost in the UK for an "official" one is £630, cost from most importers is £450, cost buying it direct is around £380-£400. More bang for buck.
23.
Always a popular subject! Take a look at the 'importing guitars' sticky as Ishibashi is a great way to go. I and several others have had good experiences buying direct. Far East guitars are really cool too. John I think would have gone out of his way to help. Good chap! I havent dealt with 'carafted in Japan' and I wont be dealing with guitar emporium.
The importing guitars sticky is awesome, I should have mentioned it! Without it my guitarist wouldn't have had a clue how to go about importing Any reason why guitar emporium won't get your business dood?
