Lado

I played quite a few Lado's many years ago (about 25 actually!) at the Frankfurt Music Messe trade fair. Great instruments, really good build quality.
2.
Did you see either of the versions of Wishbone Ash gigs at the Globe in Cardiff recently? I like watching them but in my book "just one orginal member left" counts as a tribute band ...
I was there for Martin Turners Wishbone Ash a few weeks ago. To me hearing Martins vocals & bass make it a more authentic sounding version than Andy Powells lot.
3.
Ha, who is Jeff?
Jeff Berlin - he doesn't advocate practicing with a metronome.
4. Martin Turner is a fantastic bassist & was a huge influence on me when I started playing - "Argus" is full of great basslines which are a real blast to play.
5.
If money is no object you could try to find a Zon Sonus 8 string... very light for an 8 and also has a graphite neck!
I had no idea that Zon made an 8 string - oh boy!!
6. If money isn't an issue get yourself a Hamer 8 (or 12) string bass - you won't get a better one.
7. I'm wondering if the original recording might have been pitch shifted to give old Justins falsetto vocals a helping hand......
8. Could be an output stage fuse blown. Could be the lead. You need to try the head with a cab that you know works and the cab with an amp you know is OK so you can narrow down the possibilities of what's gone wrong. You say you recently bought this setup - if it was new it's under warranty so have you contacted the shop you bought it from?
9.
This guy's looking for offers on a nice jazz body with quality aftermarket hardware: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49099 Stick a precision neck on it and you could have the best of both worlds...Jazz sound, Precision feel.
I saw the body in the above thread on Sunday & can state that it's in really good condition & looks pretty groovy with the Badass bridge & chrome pickguard.
10. It's the other way with me - I started off liking narrow Jazz bass type necks & ended up prefering chunkier ones.
11. You could leave switched it on 'til doomsday & it won't overheat unless you're driving it - you need to be playing it at the sort of volume & length of time that you were doing when it cut out the first time. My Trace used to do that quite often when I was gigging with it - pain in the arse. Hated that bloody amp.
12.
source It's like that but in silver.
Fair enough - never seen 'em like that before. Could it be that the locking bit that attaches to the strap has snapped & that's what is stuck inside the strap button?
13. Stanley Clarke used to have an Alembic with a Bigsby trem - it's on the cover of one of his albums. That pickup looks NOTHING like a Filtertron.
14. That's not a Dunlop strap lock button.
15. Do you get the hum problem with other pedals but WITHOUT the compressor? An effects loop isn't the best placement for a compressor IMO. It sounds like the compressor is increasing the volume of an otherwise inaudible hum. Personally I'd use compression & any distortion/overdrive effects in front of the amp and only run the delay & modulation effects through the effects loop.
16. John Deacon showed as much good taste in his decision to leave the dodgy Queen resurrection stuff well alone as he always did in his playing and song writing. He's a class act. I was lucky enough to see Queen live in 1976 & it still ranks as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
17. "I say I say I say, my Victor Wooten has no soul" "How does he smell?" "TERRIBLE!" (Before anyone starts foaming at the mouth I would just like to point out that Victor Wooten probably doesn't smell terrible, but the title of the thread did make me think of the old "My dogs got no nose" joke). I thank you.......
18. The Jacques Meistersinger. Wonderful deep transparent analogue chorus that doesn't mess with your sound. Has a mix control so you can vary the amount of chorus in your signal which is very useful. Always used to use & love the TC Electronics Chorus/Flanger but IMO the Meistersinger is better.
19. +1 on the Bartolinis.
20. The zero feedback seller, the amazingly good condition of the bass & the absurdly low price all indicate (to me) that this is a scam of some sort. However, I could be wrong & in that case somebody is going to get a tremendous bargain
21. Saving up for a secondhand Ampeg is your best move - if you want the SVT sound you won't be happy with anything other than an Ampeg.
22. Right, let's find you some serious tone for f*** all money - have a look at this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hartke-Bass-Attack-t...93%3A1|294%3A50 & here's a review of it from bass player magazine which says it'll do a decent SVT sound: http://www.bassplayer.com/article/hartke-b...ack/may-05/8580
23.
Problem is I dont have £400 at the moment. I NEVER have money when theres a good deal ha.
No, me neither - it's a bastard, isn't it?
24. What about this then: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=48322 That's a great price for an SVT3 Pro - that'll definately give you the sound you're after.
