Interesting - I wonder what the four inputs are for... My 1992 has 2 inputs - one high gain and one low.

I've got a bass that I'm slowly repairing. At one stage (about 15 years ago) it got got flood damaged, and ended up with quite a serious bow. It must have got wet, and then whoever was in charge of if left the strings on. Using the truss rod - and a couple of washers to get extra turn on it - I then managed to almost get it straight, but then split the neck - the truss rod came right out the back up by the headstock. Was a shock to say the least. I glued this split - clamped it - and tried again - the same thing happened. Only then did I think "hmmm - I'm putting flatwounds on it" - and realised the tension was higher. The neck has since been soaked in a bath - and jigged to put a back bow in it. Now it's quite straight with flats on - but some of the fretboard has swelled, so it needs frets removed and the fretboard to be sanded flat again. All fun. All because I decided to use this bass again and I don't like roundwounds anymore. Certainly in general - flatwounds are higher tension. Stands to reason really doesn't it - there's more metal in the string so they take more tension to get to the required pitch.

Although - to be honest - most of my "fills and runs" are me finding my way back home after finding myself accompanying whatever our guitarist has decided to play today. Agree with all the learning TV commercials and stuff. I've always pretty much ignored music theory (I know what key I'm in, and a few scales - that's about it...) and learned patterns on the fretboard - and then learned to link those patterns to my ear. A good trick is learning to tell what key something is in by listening to it - when you start to play along, people think you know how to play it! ha ha ha!!

WD40 is good. Spray some into a small jar, put your nuts in. As with the vodka - don't drink it after.

Is there a way of wiring a vol pot just on the j pickup? I'm thinking (when I eventually get round to building a bass) of having a vol pot on the j - and a master vol pot. 2 knobs. 90% of the time I play with both vol pots up 100% - sometimes I turn my j down a bit.

I find 15s a bit muddy. I don't find them any deeper. I find 2x15 cabs even muddier. But 15s mixed with 10s are fine. I've got a combo with a 15 and an 8 - and that is far from muddy. I really like it but it's not loud enough for my current drummer. Was great with my last one though. The 8" really provides the clarity and punch the 15 lacks. I prefer 10s though now. I'm really not sure about 12s. I was thinking about going down the 12s route until I played with a Marshall 4x12. Not as good as their 4x10. It's all personal though isn't it.

I've got a JCM800 Bass Series. It sounds just like a JCM800 Bass Series! Like any amp - it amplifies the sound of the bass - but it does add a good bit of rock and blues for you. Excellent thick distortion - and back to clean thump & honk. I get more variance in tone from adjusting the tone pots on my j/p than I do with the eq - I tend to just use to the eq to find the space in the mix I can hear myself the best in the room. In short - they're inflexible. But that's perfect if you want what they sound like anyway. Mine is heavy - you want to walk the shortest distance with it. Park outside etc. 400m is toooo far.

I know goats are popular with us computer geeks. I never realised rabbits were so musical. Do people prefer wild or shop bought?

Played one in the guitar center in LA when I'd never heard of them. Was stunned by how light they are. I really liked it. Will get one one day.

Lighter fluid - naptha (real zippo fuel) rather than petrol. It's higher grade and the stink stays less. Watered down malt vinegar can be useful too. Lemon oil smells nice after

I managed to ding my bass without any impact. Being a silly boy I put it on a footstool whilst I cleaned the fretboard. The footstool cushion is just tied on and moved ever so slightly as I was cleaning, allowing a wooden corner to stick out - which wore through the finish right through to the wood. Despite the odd clanging on things - its the only visible mark on it still.
