1. I despise Robbie Williams more than I can say but I can't help but admire the bassline to 'Rock DJ' chorus. Which is extra awkward as it's one of the most horrific songs ever recorded.
2.
Get a contract sorted. We ask for 25% on booking confirmation and the rest paid in full two weeks before the big day. That way the band get paid and fuel covered
As things are picking up, this is definitely something we need to be looking into.
3. In a nutshell - should you ask for payment before or after the set? We've done a few weddings before but always for someone we've known. This Saturday we're playing a wedding without knowing the lucky people beforehand. So far the groom has been the contact and he's been flakey to say the least - we were actually recruited quite late in the day for reasons unknown - either the previous band pulled out or maybe he's just spectacularly disorganised! We've been given a small deposit but aren't sure how to proceed with the rest of the payment. The rest of the band are insistent on money upfront or we don't play but I'm worried that could come across as confrontational.
4. Bass perfection right there. I'll kick myself when you tell me but what does AVRI mean?
5. Lovely figuring on the back of the neck!
6.
it's really comfortable to play too, even though I prefer medium scale. The only problem is the j pup is now suffering in comparison to the SD. At some point in the future I may upgrade.
I used to have one just like yours and the stock pickups were very weak... They were marked 'Jackson', not clear form the pics if yours is too. I'm not surprised the QP is overpowering it!
7. I wish they still made the 4 string version!
8. I've got one of these. Absolutely beautiful things, the sound is just heaven. Get some flats on it pronto, if you haven't done already. I usually play long scale basses and go for a very toppy, driven tone. From time to time I get a bit fed up with that - a quick play on the Hofner reminds me of what it's all about.
9.
Position of the pickup on a P is KEY.
This.
10.
It's an ESP Horizon bass.
It's an LTD (or ESP) C305. Similar shape to the Horizon, but the Horizon generally had a sculpted body, PJ pickups and reverse tuners on the low strings.
11.
Quite pleased with this. Plays better than the Gibson's I've been near. Got some cash off the list price too. Had a superb deal (half price-ish) on amazon pointed out to me on a sunburst Epiphone Thunderbird 4 Pro, so snagged that too. A good day's snagging.
I really like the look of these... with that spec and hardware you can't go wrong really. The pickup spacing is a bit variable it seems. It looks like yours has the modern arrangement - some have the neck pickup a bit further back, toward the bridge like the 60s ones. I've often considered buying one and popping some Thunderbuckers in.
nice, the only thing that puts me off is the size of the headstock, hows the neck dive on that?
If you think these are big, have a look at the old 60s ones!
12.
I got mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm still having trouble putting it down. I'm wearing it now, as I type this. This Road Worn, my Diamond BCP-1, my Markbass SA450 and my newly-delivered Barefaced Two10 - just about where I want to be at the moment.
Don't forget Ritter! Beautiful basses these. I briefly owned a RW Jazz and it was easily the finest Jazz I've ever played. It just felt right.
13. I've never had a run of bad luck like you, but if your singer does have a viral throat infection, what else can he/she do but blow out the gig? 'Crying off' seems a little unfair!
14. A green Spector. That's a dream bass right there...
15. Well played that man!
16.
I suppose because I grew up in the pre-tab/Tab/TAB world, I have never seen the point in it. A lot harder to learn and apply than standard notation for me.
From experience I can assure you that, for a novice player who wants to learn how to play his/her favourite songs, tab is far quicker. It's much more of a quick fix as it takes virtually no time to become accustomed to. It's missing a lot of information, but for a bunch of unkempt 15 year olds trying to play along to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath it was more than sufficient.
17.
He's grown his hair hasn't he? Not sure about the side parting though... 😊
I can see it now. Impossible to un-see 😂
18. I didn't but BGM is always tucked away at the back! Looking at it now though, not sure what I'm looking for though...
19. It's the old classic - something has caught my eye so I'm dropping the price to £1000 for the next few days.
20. What a lovely-looking thing!
21.
The Intel advert.
To this day I expect it to continue into Tubular Bells.
22. Up. Offers welcome.
23. New lower price - £1150.
