  1. The same happened to me with Rush of all people. I was really upset at the time, having waited my whole life to see them, and Geddy being one of my heroes, only to be greeted with an indecipherable wall of sub bass. Luckily I saw them again and the matter was rectified 😁 Like you, it's one of the reasons I don't bother with bigger gigs much these days.
  2. Vowel - Biffy Clyro
  3. Groove Machine - King's X
  4. I couldn't have put it better myself. "Ill-disciplined rock player" - that's me to a tee 😆 I'm not that good at just holding down the low end... it's more fun to play 10 notes instead of 2. Made my years in pub covers bands a bit interesting though... For me, Entwistle will always be the ultimate bass guitarist, and my greatest teacher, as I literally learnt to play bass by listening to and copying him. The Guv'nor.
  5. That's one for the Xmas list!
  6. DRs! Fantastic. My choice of string, I've never played better. Not tried to Lo Riders, I usually use Hi Beams. What is it they say on Talkbass - woodshedding? Enjoy your time in the woodshed! You know how when you're so familiar with a band, you can find yourself not listening to them so often? That's me and The Who. This thread (and your other one) has sent me right back into them. Pure rock fury. Nothing ever came close.
  7. Maid Of Orleans - OMD
  8. Time O' The Signs - Terrorvision
  9. Remove the J pickup, that'll help with the weight! 😁
  10. I need to see those! They had the front end of a Victor at Hendon, but only that. The Victor's my favourite of the three
  11. Here's a rare shot of John with the bass in question.
  12. There's one at the RAF Museum in Hendon too - we saw it a couple of weeks ago. I don't know who these people are but they're standing underneath it, which gives you some idea of the vast size of the thing.
  13. He must have wanted it there as the bass in the video is Frankenstein, built from dead parts. It's actually a Jazz Bass cover. It didn't stay on for long though.
  14. Jack The Ripper - Screaming Lord Sutch
  15. Cyclops - Marilyn Manson
  16. That must have been incredible!
  17. I saw one of those fly when I was a kid. I'm still astounded at how something so vast was able to fly so gracefully.
  18. Empty Glass is a fantastic album, although I actually prefer the earlier Who version - well, Pete's demo with Moon and Entwistle overdubs.
  19. Those Dean basses are a reprehensible cash-in. John never played them. Apart from the vague Alembic shape, there's nothing about them that resembles anything he ever used.
  20. Don't worry, your distortion will remove any undesirable niceties 🤣
  21. I reckon a bass of this calibre deserves far better than Rotosounds 🤣
  22. Reading this makes me happy.
  23. Congratulations! I've been after one of these for years but on the rare occasions they do pop up I don't have the money. I have played the magnificent Buzzard belonging to our very own @Wolverinebass and it is an astonishing instrument - despite the demented appearance it is a completely logical and comfortable bass to play. And, just like John's, the action is so low the strings are on the other side of the fretboard 😆
  24. ... specifically, THIS clip. Aged 6 or 7, this was the point I knew I was a bass player. Daltrey was yet to find himself but crikey, that rhythm section...
