  1. In the two years or so of working from home, I've gone down a few musical rabbit holes and have 'discovered' a number of bands that are eye-openingly, incredibly good. A few of the best are below, with an album suggestion should you choose to listen to them (I've also put on of my favourite songs from each album in brackets if you just want a taste!) I would say if you do listen to any of the below, do try and listen to the full album as some don't begin with the best songs... Toehider - I Like It (Concerning Lix and Fairs) Caligula's Horse - Rise Radiant (Salt) Haken - The Mountain (Atlas Stone) Artificial Language - The Observer (Unself Portrait) Moron Police - A Boat On The Sea (The Phantom Below) Vola - Applause From A Distant Crowd (Alien Shivers) Voices From The Fuselage - Odyssey: The Founder Of Dreams (Via) Symphony X - Underworld (Nevermore) All of these albums are absolutely outstanding for different reasons, but all do walk a similar line in terms of genre. If you have a bit of spare time, give some of these a listen, to me they represent exactly what I love about music (a hugely subjective statement), maybe you'll enjoy them too!
  2. This is a very good suggestion - I believe it's called a 'letter before action'. I did this with a somewhat notorious UK Bass builder after months of issues, it worked a treat as in reality they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on and were hoping to shine me on indefinitely thinking I'd let it slide. If you show (and mean) intent to take legal action they will cave pretty quick as they have no chance at winning the case, they could also be liable for legal costs too so it will cost them more than just paying you your owed money.
  3. Kalium are great, but with them being in the US they can be a little pricey. Newtone are UK based as just as good (I've used both a good few times).
  4. This. 100%
  5. Looks like an SX Jazz bass to me. £180ish new without the damage. People that auction basses with 'Don't know anything about it' 99% of the time know EXACTLY what they're selling but they're hoping for someone to come along and pay well over the odds for it on the assumption its legit. Just another con.
  6. What about 5+5?
  7. I'm not a fan of Ricks... BUT if I were to own one, it'd be exactly like yours! Absolutely the nicest colour combination Rick does in my opinion, and the shark fin inlays just make a Rick a Rick!
  8. I suspect @nilorius is trying to get his rank up, but it is definitely coming across as a bit troll-ish as this is not the first thread that he's written to spark responses with multiple self-responses within an hour of posting. I would suggest you let people respond of their own free will and not relentlessly bump your posts - we are capable of reading and responding to posts if we chose to do so. I would also hazard a guess that you know full well the specs of this bass! But on the off-chance you are genuine, then I'd say the top and back woods are stabilised buckeye burl, the bridge is a Hipshot Type-B, the tuners are Hipshot Ultralite, the pre-amp is 18v (possible Bartolini, if you open the back cavity it'll be more obvious) and the pick ups are Bartolini. It appears to have a radiused ebony fretboard and perhaps an Ash body with maple mahogany neck. That's my 2 cents.
  9. I've been to Mike's workshop a few times, he's done work on 3 of 4 of my basses and I can confirm his work is exceptionally good! If his amps/cabs are anything like his basses and repair work, then £500 is a steal for this rig.
  10. I think @Cosmicrain built these... The man behind Zoot basses.
  11. Had the exact same thing happen, even after phoning them up first to make sure it was in stock after hearing these stories regularly.
  12. I think my suspicions of it being more trouble than it's worth to strip the paint off are looking to be correct. I'll probably just leave it as is. It's still a great player, and looks good from a distance, so it could be worse! Cheers for the advice chaps. 👍
  13. Hi all, Anyone know any good ways to remove a layer of paint that's been sprayed on top of the original finish of an Epiphone Dot 335? I might just sell it as is due to probably not having the time, but if there's a cunning way to remove this 're-spray' from the original finish underneath then I might give it a go! It was tobacco burst and now has a bit of a shoddy 'Pelham Blue' type finish on top.
  14. Hi all, I recently acquired this Epiphone Dot 335 guitar with the intent on refinishing it as the previous owner attempted their own refinish in Pelham Blue but didn't exactly do a professional job! You can see that they masked off the binding and sprayed it - from a distance it looks fine but up close it is a bit of a shonky job! The original colour was tobacco burst, I suspect this is intact under the re-spray, so if you have a clever way to remove the 'Pelham Blue' then it'll be back to the way it was. It's missing one knob (I think I have a spare, if I can find it I shall include it), it all works fine (one pot is a little scratchy but I can probably mostly get rid of this) and has nice low action. All in, £150 seems cheap enough given it has a hardcase too. I can post for an extra £15.
  15. It's a reasonably clever and very cheap solution! Probably has the same mass as a Squier bridge.
  16. To be fair, £20 starting bid with a £40 BIN isn't asking a disgusting amount. I mean I'm not going to be buying it any time soon, but I can think of worse things I've bought for £20!
  17. Surely someone could do with a great quality full size electric piano for a mere £100!
  18. It's at the other end sir, by the gym equipment, next to the loo!
  19. I shall keep an eye on it and see how it goes. So far it's strong and stable. This space is definitely more of a practice/rehearsal studio more than a recording studio so it won't interfer much if at all with our equipment.
  20. Expense! I was planning on doing just that as I thought it was the only viable option for strong and stable Internet that far from the router in the main house - that option was around £400 and involved drilling through a wall, running an external ethernet cable round the outside of the house, mounting a transmitter to the house and a receiver to the studio etc. The powerline adapter route was £90 for all the bits and works extremely well - I had heard that powerline adapters don't do well going through 2 separate consumer units, but this one (TP-Link AV1000 WiFi) works perfectly. I think the fact its running down a 16mm 3 Core cable as opposed to thinner typical house wiring helps... £90 vs £400 for effectively the same result - no brainer!
  21. Cool. 😎
