Mr Hooker kindly sent me a pedal in need of a bit of TLC for the cost of postage. It arrived safely and promptly - another credit to BC!

We might have changed the plan if we didn't have good distance from the two neighbours either side of us and zero neighbours to the rear. I've no doubt there'll be some sound spill, but I'm confident it won't be as issue given the location.

Looks like the top of the cabs have the carbon weave showing vs the pre-2022 ones that have tolex on top and weave on the sides.

End of the building day today. From the back corner... From the front door looking at the loo/shower room doorway... Inside the loo/shower room looking towards the back of the building...

The 28 ground screws and the 10m x 4m framework was around 3.7k to have made and installed. The difficulty with concrete is getting up the garden, there is access from the side of the front of the house, but the location of the studio is 200ft+ up the garden, call it 300ft from the closest location a cement mixer could park. Also, there's the issue of the land being slightly sloped, so they would have had to remove another 50 odd tons of dirt to level the ground and dig the trenches which all would have needed to be barrowed down the garden and taken away by a grabber lorry. They've removed 40 tons of dirt as it is, with the ground screws, they can be 'ground level' at the back and raised by up to 1ft at the front to allow for level building on unlevel ground. Using ground screws and framework probably saved a weeks labour and is just as strong so thats where the cost saving is, it's also flexible to a degree so wouldn't crack under ground movement.

Under that wool insulation is a 200mm thick layer of Jablite. And on top of that wool will be 50mm thermal insulation board, so it should be quite well sound proofed between the wood and render walls - maybe not to a professional standard, but I'm quite confident it'll be fine for the position of the studio. 4 more weeks and we shall see!!

Some more progress...

Sold my Electronic Drums to Ian, we met up in a not so shady car park and did the deed! All was smooth and importantly traffic was a breeze for once! Another easy BC transaction!

We're very dedicated...

Just to clarify, I'm not building this so I don't know what those terms mean! It'll simply be a well insulated building - there is no 'official' sound proofing. As mentioned we have structured band practice times between 1830 and 2230 on Thursdays. The building will be well insulated which will form a decent level of sound proofing. I assume your other comment as to the declination in dB over distance is based on there being no barrier between the drum kit and the listener 75m away? So that drop you've mentioned will be significantly improved by there being a building to form a barrier. At any rate, we won't be breaking any laws by playing music up until 2230!

Wrapped for rendering...
-
It'll be white rendered on the outside with 3 layers on insulation on the inside, clad over and plastered. It won't be wholly sound proofed but the walls will have some good thickness and a lot of insulation so it'll keep most of the noise in. It is a fair way away from the nearest neighbour, probably 250ft or so if you draw a diagonal line from where the drum kit and PA will be to the nearest neighbours house. The floor is suspended on a steel frame mounted to 28 5ft ground screws, the floor will have similar insulation to the walls and ceiling too. Should be a great building once done. It has roughly the same square footage as my first flat. We practice on Thursday evenings between 6pm and about 1030pm so we'll be inside noise curfew too. 👍

The internal room height will be around 2.5m, so we're OK for inside height space, which is good as I'm 6"4. It's pretty much the height of a standard ceiling.

Some walls...

The budget was far less than the actual cost! It'll be a shade over 40k once done. That's all in including all costs for everything. Bear in mind it'll have a loo, shower, sink etc. as well as the fairly chunky cost of running the utilities and a 16mm 3 core cable 220ft up the garden underground! It's a 10m x 4m building so quite large too. Once the builder has finished for the day I'll put up another picture, it's quite amazing how quick progress is!
-
Bit more progress... The utilities have now been moled the 200ft up the garden. Got water, 16mm 3 core cable and sewage in place. Builder reckons 5 weeks-ish to completion.

Hi all, With the studio being built in the garden, our drummer will be setting up his kit full time in there so I won't need this rather tasty electric drumkit going forward. This is a Thomann own brand 'Millenium MPS 850' kit and retails for £500 new. I'm also including a Gibraltar double kick pedal which works perfectly with the mesh kick drum head. This kit also has a clutching hi-hat which you really only see on much more expensive kits. It's has a snare mesh pad and well as a hi-tom, lo-tom and 2 floor tom mesh pads, it has the hi-hat as well as 3 other variable velocity cymbal pads. There's plenty of decent kit presents in the brain unit, and each pad has an individual volume adjust so you can dial in your sound. Headphone in, USB, amp inputs etc. Its a fantastic kit for the brand new price, let alone my price of £320 which includes UK delivery and Gibraltar double kick which cost me near £100 on its own! Collection welcome, I'll knock off £20 if you Collect. Check eBay past sold items, you won't find this cheaper! Any questions, let me know! https://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_mps_850_e_drum_set.htm?glp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwu_mSBhAYEiwA5BBmf6xAgT2vgXrqGyuHEy_o1X5Q6z4jd9hBoMspB4UcR_EGWVV_sEjuGxoCw2YQAvD_BwE

End of the day shot...
-
So that photo was yesterday... A mere 4 hours into today and the garden is a very different place! 6 workers, generators, underground moles, chop saws, six 5ft holes, etc.

Honestly, I have no idea! Some kind of structural reinforcement I'd guess... perhaps if the sections are over '2 rectangles' long they need some kind of reinforcement? I shall ask when the builder is back tomorrow!

The 10m x 4m steel base is now down, got a delivery of 200 odd meters of timber coming tomorrow... For a size reference, you can see my wife in the bottom corner of the base, it's is quite large!
