  1. I think my suspicions of it being more trouble than it's worth to strip the paint off are looking to be correct. I'll probably just leave it as is. It's still a great player, and looks good from a distance, so it could be worse! Cheers for the advice chaps. 👍
  2. Hi all, Anyone know any good ways to remove a layer of paint that's been sprayed on top of the original finish of an Epiphone Dot 335? I might just sell it as is due to probably not having the time, but if there's a cunning way to remove this 're-spray' from the original finish underneath then I might give it a go! It was tobacco burst and now has a bit of a shoddy 'Pelham Blue' type finish on top.
  3. Hi all, I recently acquired this Epiphone Dot 335 guitar with the intent on refinishing it as the previous owner attempted their own refinish in Pelham Blue but didn't exactly do a professional job! You can see that they masked off the binding and sprayed it - from a distance it looks fine but up close it is a bit of a shonky job! The original colour was tobacco burst, I suspect this is intact under the re-spray, so if you have a clever way to remove the 'Pelham Blue' then it'll be back to the way it was. It's missing one knob (I think I have a spare, if I can find it I shall include it), it all works fine (one pot is a little scratchy but I can probably mostly get rid of this) and has nice low action. All in, £150 seems cheap enough given it has a hardcase too. I can post for an extra £15.
  4. It's a reasonably clever and very cheap solution! Probably has the same mass as a Squier bridge.
  5. To be fair, £20 starting bid with a £40 BIN isn't asking a disgusting amount. I mean I'm not going to be buying it any time soon, but I can think of worse things I've bought for £20!
  6. Surely someone could do with a great quality full size electric piano for a mere £100!
  7. It's at the other end sir, by the gym equipment, next to the loo!
  8. I shall keep an eye on it and see how it goes. So far it's strong and stable. This space is definitely more of a practice/rehearsal studio more than a recording studio so it won't interfer much if at all with our equipment.
  9. Expense! I was planning on doing just that as I thought it was the only viable option for strong and stable Internet that far from the router in the main house - that option was around £400 and involved drilling through a wall, running an external ethernet cable round the outside of the house, mounting a transmitter to the house and a receiver to the studio etc. The powerline adapter route was £90 for all the bits and works extremely well - I had heard that powerline adapters don't do well going through 2 separate consumer units, but this one (TP-Link AV1000 WiFi) works perfectly. I think the fact its running down a 16mm 3 Core cable as opposed to thinner typical house wiring helps... £90 vs £400 for effectively the same result - no brainer!
  10. Cool. 😎
  11. I'm firmly in the 'I just don't get Wals' camp. They're built well, but they're not extraordinary whereas an ACG does have extraordinary build quality and undeservedly change hands for a tiny fraction of a 2nd hand Wal. People can like what they like, no issues there, but for me Wals are so incredibly over priced for what they are it just strikes me as odd that anyone would pay 8k for one if they knew that there are better made and sounding alternatives out there. (Yes, that is subjective of course!)
  12. A few finishing touches, mics, effects, wall hangers, pictures, WiFi, fridge, kettle etc. Had a proper loud mini-practice today, purposefully to hear what the volume will be like at the house 200ft away - with the windows and doors to the studio closed, and if you then stand outside the back door of my house, you can barely hear anything - if you're in the house with the doors closed you can't hear it at all. Good for the neighbours! Inside the room it is absolutely deafening at the 'test' volume we played at, we won't play at that volume during usual practice, but it is good to know that we can play VERY loud and still not bother the neighbours at all! We now have exceptionally strong WiFi down there too thanks to a WiFi powerline adapter (a fantastic bit of kit!) You plug one adapter into a wall socket by your router and connect it to the router with a ethernet cable, then the second adapter (which transmits WiFi) plugs into a wall socket in the studio, it uses the 16mm power supply we have moled underground to carry internet to the studio and then the adapter in the studio transmits the WiFi via the plug in adapter. Cost me just under £90 for the set up include a 5 way ethernet port that I've connected to the router. So now the RING alarm system is working, as is chromecast for the TV and as are the WiFi enabled radiators! Basically, that's it 100% done. 😁 Not bad considering we broke ground 8 weeks ago!
  13. Acrylic Impregnated Birdseye Maple.
  14. Grant (our builder) was indeed very good! We nearly didn't go with him because he's quite young (27) and had only just started his own business, but after 5 quotes, he was the one that came across as the most knowledge, professional and most importantly honest - he didn't try and hard sell us and spoke candidly about costs and what his approach would be. Price wise, he wasn't the cheapest but wasn't the dearest. Anyone looking for a builder in Essex, I'd highly recommend him! Company name is 'Ace Building Services Essex'.
  15. Not yet. I suspect it'll take a bit of fettling to get a sound we're happy with. I might make some sound dampening panels for the walls over the next week or two, it'll be a bit of a work in progress to achieve the right sound, but at least the building and the loading in is done!
  16. Pretty much all done now. Looking forward to our first practice in here next week. 😁
  17. Gotta keep them fit so they can safely run away from all the groupies! Once all the band stuff is in it'll look much better!
  18. Nearly there... need to move the band gear in on Thursday and shuffle some stuff around to maximise space but it's almost good to go! Final pictures at the weekend!
  19. Hi, Up for sale here is my Thomann 88 key digital piano. It's works perfectly and sounds fantastic. It's a full size digital piano with weighted keys. It comes with a fitted stands that has dual pedals. I think this was near £400 new and even at that price was excellent value for money. I'm only selling as my guitarist has a very nice Kawai digital piano that we're going to be using in my studio room instead of this one, so this one is up for grabs! I'm asking £100. Based in Wickford, Essex. Collection only! Any questions, please ask! Russ.
  20. @lownote - I've owned maybe 4 Cort A6 basses of various iterations including the one you've bought. Having owned almost all high end/boutique basses out there, I can say that these Cort A6 basses are not out of place among them in terms of quality. IMO theyre excellent value for money, built to a very high standard and punch well above their weight. Whenever anyone asks me about the best 'budget' 6er, the Cort A6 is the one I always recommend. An excellent purchase sir, I reckon you'll be very happy! 😁
