1. PART 1 Following from homers thread - the idea of posting my entire bass history seems pretty cool - so here we go: I picked up my first bass in late 2003, had been playing guitar a few months and fancied some low end too. I knew nothing about basses, just they they all seemed more expensive than guitars. I went for this Squier Bronco, cost me £110.. It was ok - made bassy noises and all that, but didn't give me the sound I was really after. 6 months later came this 5 string Stagg, in some vein attempt to make me sound better and play more heavy stuff. This bass again was 'ok', had flaws in fretwork and neck, but I didn't notice when I bought it. It was around this time I sold the Bronco. About a year later on a trip to PMT with my Dad, saw this Stingray copy and gave it a whirl. A/B'd it with a proper Stingray, and to my ears (at the time) sounded just as good ! £150 later it was at home, the scratchplate I made myself as the standard black bored me (and I wanted to emulate the SUBs).
2. People must be really tripping out when they decide to do something like this. Justwhen I thought defretting my Yamaha was a major modification .
3. Got my copy yesterday - haven't give it any attention yet though ;(.
4. Beautiful - just like mine but 15 years older... *drool*.
5. I've had 2 Staggs, they are really hit and miss. You can get one thats great - then one that is awful. Personally i'd save up a few more pennies and get the Squier Fretless Jazz.
6. He's not wrong - they are super basses. This one with all the addons is a great price.
7. I'd go for a Jazz too - it has 3 basic sounds to my ears where a Precision has 1.
8. Some Corvettes are passive some active. Got pics ?
9. Where did you get it ? I can only assume someone previously modified the EQ with an additional pot and has since replaced it with the original electronics.
10. Fatback Studios in Birmingham has about 14 rooms, all with sameish kit. That being Peavey TNT 115 bass amp (not quite enough without extra cab), Marshall/Ibanez/Laney heads/410 cabs for the guitars, and random bits of drum kit. Don't often have gear issues - if it is then its just the guitar speaker cabs.
11. There's an Ibanez Musician on eBay at moment, can't link as it's blocked i'm afraid.
12. Looks like you had fun - sorry I couldn't make it.
13. Today: Ashdown MAG210 Musicman Stingray SR5 HH
14. Depends on the Steamer - some Streamers come in all sorts of pickup configs including J/J. Probably isn't a huge difference in tone between Streamer LX and Corvette Standard (Ash).
15. Have played one of these - nice feel and sound, maybe a bit too black for me though. £350 is a great price for one - the one I saw was £400 2nd hand.
16. Agreed - but the BB614 is going for a difference sound really. My BB was great - just got superceded.
17. Lol - It's nothing personal. I expect if a thread is deemed more suited to another forum then it gets moved by whoever is watching at the time. p.s. this should be in Site Issues .

New skin
What was wrong with the old skin. I dont like the new one, it doesnt give me anything and I would like to keep the old one - but it seems I cant select it any more. It seems pretty arbitrary to force a new skin on people just because its "new" and "cool".
I apologise, i'll arrange a refund immediately ! ...wait a minute
19. Definitely D'Addario - I love the colours..
20. Looks a bit mouldy..
21. Asterisks are a preference for me also.
22.
My teacher has Sadowsky bass, friend - MusicMan, and so on - the point is that no-one has P-bass
I stand corrected ! I still think you should go with the Ibanez, it's got more to it (in my eyes) than a Fender Precision.
23. When I first got my BB614 it was much the same - however I gave it a setup immediately and it was superb. Perhaps Yamaha don't do the instrument justice in the factory setup ?
24. I'd go for the Ibanez without a doubt. The Ibanez will produce tones similar to the Fender but with a more modern sound. As far as build quality is concerned, the Prestige models are great. The other players and your teacher I suspect probably have a Precision themselves and haven't tried the Ibanez to really comment on it - they are airing on the side of tradition.
25. I find sweat kills my strings the most. I am a tight when it comes to strings - haven't bought any since November. An occasional boil does me fine - I don't play for hours on end (maybe 2-3 hours a week tops) and attribute that to how long I keep them for before buying new ones. That new string zing can be over the top - I prefer strings a few weeks old.
