It was indeed a great bass, I had it for a while and played/sounded fantastic.
Feeling a lotta a love for it. Pestie said it had a good pedigree 😉 I'm happy as a pig in the proverbial !
it did indeed matey, superb bass! Only sold as i got a '78 p... if it's still got flats on it yes it was me that put them on and they're labella 45-105 flats, superb strings imho and they do suit my perfect p bass sound you should be fine with those for a few years yet if you like 'em matey
Hmm.... Cheers for that, but the strings that are on now are roundwounds :-/ Perhaps I'll have a look at some la bellas though when the time comes as they're so highly recommended. Cheers
woohoo! it's a superb bass matey
It certainly is. Did this used to be yours? If it did I'm just trying to find out what strings are on it as they suit it so well. I'd hate to change anything about it when it comes to string change time :-/
Ahhh.... P basses are the benchmark of great basses in my mind. I've recently got the jazz bass bug, but i've got a couple of USA P basses from over the years which are still my main squeezes. They just sound, feel and look so right. Ironically, my P Bass sound by itself isn't anything astonishing, but turned up loud and slotting in with a band, its a really full, fat, commanding bass tone which is perfect for me. If you can't do it on a P bass, you're not doing it right...
Exactly !

Well I had a rehearsal last night with the black and maple American Std Precision I collected on Sunday from Pestie. What can I say............ An awesome bass, full, thick and powerful tone which sounds amazing through my GB Streamliner. The bass has an extremely low action but with absolutely no buzzes, it plays like a dream. Does exactly what I wanted it to, namely plug and play with instant classic tone. Very happy boy 😜

Bought a beautiful Fender P from Mike (pestie) today. Bass was exactly as described (in fact, even better than described). Mike couldn't have been more honest or helpful. Lovely fella, great transaction, deal with complete confidence. Many thanks again 😊

Mystery solved then! I do love this forum 😄 Many thanks everyone

Many thanks guys, that's just what I was after. The 'series' that I mentioned was prompted by one that's on fleabay at the moment (£600 in Notts). The tag on it says 'American series'. It has S1 switching. I wasn't sure if this is actually a different range or not.

Hi all Given my complete lack of knowledge of Fender's range now, could any of you guys advise me on the differences between the following: USA standard P USA series P USA Special P I apologise for my ignorance in advance! 😔 Cheers
How about postage? Im in sunderland tyne and wear. Think someone is buying my gk 1001rb combo next week so i'll have funds Thanx
I'd prefer collection but postage is an option, although I've no idea on cost (it is a little weighty). Alternatively, we could sort out a meet up half way? Cheers
I feel the same. The ones I've played all felt very cheap and always disappointed, weight wise, tonally and aestheically. I've played sub £300 Epiphone basses that are built to a higher standard and have a better tone and that's saying something. They are a big company so will always have the fanboys who love them but I just don't get it. Saying all that, I like Fender. I imagine the guys who love Stingrays etc will think I'm a mug for liking Fender. Different strokes and all that jazz :-)
😳 Epiphones better build quality than a Stingray???? You must have tried some real dog 'rays. As a rule (and certainly in my experience) their build quality is far more consistent than a great number of manufacturers including Fendar and certainly Epiphone. As you say, some basses 'fit' players and others don't. That's ultimately what it comes down to.
