1.
Ah, fairy nuff. I never cut the strings, so they are shoved right to the bottom of the trees. As a result, my A's have a nice healthy break angle. Angled headstock? Schmangled Schmeadstock.
That's the way to do it.
2.
The general vibe seems to be that the E sting has a nice short run from the nut to the tuner, at a nice break angle downwards. The D and G strings go through the string retainer to produce the same angle downwards. the poor old A string is orphaned, with a longer run to the tuner than the E and with no retainer to maintain the angle of the dangle, leading to tuning and nut jump problems.(allegedly).
The A string has always sounded fine to me.
3. Agreed that a 5-string can do the trick but I'm more comfortable with a d-tuner and so DADG than I am with the extra string.
4. D-tuner can help but I agree keys are changed too easily and often for no good reason.
5. I can't help myself but if you can't get an answer here try the Gibson forum at The Last Bass Outpost.
6. I think Basschatter Born 2B Mild sells Boulder Creek thru his shop http://www.bassgear.co.uk/bass-guitars/boulder-creek/
7. Great looking with the black pickguard.
8. Both, I liked the 'artisan' word used in one of the posts above.
9.
My band has a brass section and we play it in C, so it can't be that difficult!
And C is the original key IIRC.
10.
Sure are, and threaded saddles too, so a real transition bass.
Mmmm, very nice.
11.
Here's my new (to me) 1970 fretless.
Are those lollipops?
12. On my Precision I use the foam from underneath a Jazz bass pickup. I also have one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mufler-Bass-Guitar-Mute-Jazz-Sound-/130597126010?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6831ff7a
13. I had the CV Jazz and it was a very nice bass. The pickups could be better and I put some Wizard 64s in mine for a definite but not pricey improvement. However, in the shop playing them I did think the Precision was better - maybe only because I prefer a Precision anyway - but I bought the Jazz because I already had a Precision but not a Jazz.
14. I don't know about Wobble but I often play with one finger if I can. I definitely get a different tone with index finger and with middle finger and much prefer index finger. I think what causes it in my case is that, although I keep my nails extremely short, with index finger I'm playing with finger pad only but with middle finger my nail still catches the string however short the nail is. I never use three fingers.
15.
She was with me when I sold my flying V in Croydon & bought my MIJ tele thinline in Pimlico on the same day, so that was proudly on display - as was the 'empty' case.
Brilliant.
16.
stashing the danelectro longhorn in a telecaster guitar case in plain sight was pretty good. It even felt empty as the bass is so light
Impressive. To work that particular trick is it necessary to own a Telecaster and, if so, where do you hide the Telecaster?
17.
I really fancy a VM Jag SS, but I've already got basses hidden everywhere I can hide a bass & the missus would definitely notice a new candy-apple red one.
What is your very best hiding place?
18. That won't finish up cheap.
19. Shame I haven't got more money or no other plans..
20. The Pino and the Tony Franklin fretless.
21. Yes, where are you and are there any pics? Laminated or solid? Thank you.
22. ... and neither thread in the ebay links forum.
