Recommend Me A Fat Jazz Bass Bridge Pickup
uncle psychosis replied to Chewie's topic in Bass Guitars
I really like DiMarzio Area J pickups. -
Discovered his channel recently, and Now I'm reeling from the revelation that "...and out come the wolves" wasn't a P bass - it was a Fender Longhorn Jazz 😮
-
I bought this fairly recently from the very lovely Mr @sPiKi but my wife's car has died, I have too much music gear, and after twenty years of playing J basses its very hard to give anything else a fair shot. This Reverend Mercalli 4 is really high quality -- a lovely roasted maple, satin finish neck, absolutely rock solid bridge, huge sounding pickups. But needs must. Its also really light (3.65 kg!) which is an added bonus. Bass is in excellent playing condition, there is some buckle rash on the back (see pics) but nothing that stops this being an awesome instrument. I've got the original box it came in so I can post this anywhere to mainland UK for £555 or you can come round to my gaff (Burntisland, Fife) and I'll make you a cuppa whilst you try it out. Alternatively can meet in Haymarket (Edinburgh) during the working week. Yeah. I *think* what I need to do is to jumper the two toggle switches to rule the two toggles out. If I can get it to sound "correct" like that then I might be able to brave trying to get those switches out --- though it will be a gigantic PITA.
-
yeah its definitely not working correctly. One of the settings for the Range basically either produces nothing, or it produces noise. And the hi-lo switch is doing something, but I'm not convinced its doing what it is meant to. I don't know if I can face debugging this. The fact that it partially works means that its going to be extremely hard to work out what is wrong 😢
-
Of course my troubleshooting isn't being helped by there being no easy way to work out which way to set the toggles and rotary to match the original!
-
Thanks, Ped. I definitely think there is something wrong with the Range toggle, but I'm not sure if it's just that analog filters are weird...
-
Its Vactrols. I'm not sure which switch is which - one of my only complaints about Fuzzdog is that he never explains the controls beyond the labels... Here's the layout https://pedalparts.co.uk/docs/MooTron.pdf I'm now pretty confident that the hi/lo switch is working. It definitely does something! I think I need to try plugging in a bass rather than my telecaster to try out the range switch.

Hey folks I have built myself a Mutron III (well, almost --- its is a Fuzzdog bulild that is a combination of elements of Madbean’s updated circuits, the Naughty Fish and the Nautilus). It has the following controls: Master Volume (pot) Input Gain (pot) Peak (pot) Sweep (pot) Range (two-way toggle) Hi-Lo (two-way toggle) LowPass-BandPass-HighPass (three-way selector) I am trying to check that the pedal is fully functional but I need some help understanding the controls and the expected behaviour to debug it --- I'm not very experienced with filter effects. Thw switching is all good and I am able to get some nice filter sounds. But... What I'm least sure about is the operation of the Range and Hi-Lo toggle switches. Here's my "problems": In one of the two 'Range' positions I don't seem to get any filter effect at all. The Hi-Lo toggle switch seems to be very subtle. So, can anyone explain to me like I'm five... 1) what these two controls are meant to do 2) an idiot's guide to checking they're setup right (fundamentally I'm wondering if things aren't happening because my instrument has too low an output, or if I've picked silly settings, etc).

Two awesome pedals for sale... Please note that I can generally only post things on Fridays but will endeavour to do better than that. ThorpyFX Camoflange V1. Boxed and in good condition. See velcro on the bottom. This is an absolutely immense analogue flanger. £160 posted ***sold*** Pics here: https://imgur.com/a/camoflange-MY0wYJf Gojira FX Mr Sparkle Drive (TS808 with bass boost switch and symetrical/asymetrical clipping switch). Nice graphics and awesome Mr Sparkle knobs. Comes with a nice big Mr Sparkle tin to keep it in as well. £70 posted Pics here: https://imgur.com/a/mr-sparkle-xBxjq4S Would consider trades for a decent bass preamp, something I can use direct-to-desk

Yet another new Fender Artist Series Signature...
uncle psychosis replied to basshead56's topic in Bass Guitars
I would personally argue that Blink are not quite as big as Green Day, but in terms of star power and fame you have to remember that unlike Mike Dirnt, Mark Hoppus is the front man / singer / face of Blink 182. Personally I think the bass looks great but too pricey for my blood. If it was a few hundred cheaper I'd probably get one. -
Not that I know of. I've always assumed its a variant of the Distortron/Box of Rock but 1) thats an assumption and 2) I don't think there's many clones of those either. There is a Pedalpcb board for it, so you could build your own. Musikding sell kits if you wanted. The enclosure is irritating, but I don't mind too much because I use so few effects on bass anyway - so putting a "board" together isn't an issue.

No its an electra VS4, I think one of the earlier ones that are Fender shaped
-
The bridge in the manual isn't the same as mine, that's why I'm asking!
-
Can I get you guys to clarify for me? In this picture , as I understand it screws 1-2-3 are used to set the string height, screw 4 is the screw to change the string-to-string spacing and screw 5 (slightly hidden) is to alter the intonation. Sound right? Do any of them need to be 'unlocked' to adjust the others?
-
Hello, Asked elsewhere but realised this might be a better place to ask. Can anyone tell me what size allen key i need to adjust the bridge on a sandberg? Its an older Electra series, if that matters. Also, any tips for setting up the bridge? Looks like a right pain in the arse.

Sandberg bridge adjustment
uncle psychosis replied to PainInTheBass's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hello, bit of a necro bump but does anyone know what size Allen key is needed for a sandberg bridge? Its for a slightly older Electra series, if that matters... -
This thread is relevant to my interests. Currently I'm using the Boss Me-90b but I quite fancy something a bit smaller. I'm after very similar tones to you, really so thinking about exactly the same pedals...

I've still to find a bass overdrive I like as much as the zvex basstortion. It's really rather good.

Just read this sad news. Dave came to my house when he sold me a bass, an absolute gentleman --- very generous and we had a right good natter about all things bass. Life really sucks sometimes
-
I bought a bass from @sPiKi and he shipped it to me in Scotland. Fantastic experience and a credit to basschat - bass exactly as described, super fast delivery, well packed and impeccable comms. Thanks again Brian!

What's the next collectable on the second hand marketthen?
uncle psychosis replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
Most things that become collectable usually start off being either rare and/or fragile to start with - if they're ubiquitous and robust then they're just never going to reach big bucks, it has to be something that isn't easy to find, either because barely anyone had one or because all the originals broke. Its pretty unusual for bass guitars to be so fragile that they deteriorate irreperably, so that leaves you with guitars that were either rare to start with, or things that were pretty unpopular so nobody bought them - until someone somewhere made a cool record with them. I'd suggest Fender Dimension basses possibly tick that box, also the Squier 40th Anniversary models is an interesting shout but I don't think they're unique enough to ever get properly collectable. To be honest though I think the naysayers above are correct. The number of collectors is diminishing, not growing. There will definitely be some fire sales in the next decade. Thankfully I've always bought my gear to use and not lied to myself that it's an investment. -
Having sold hundreds of items via eBay I wouldn't pay much attention to the Views count. The number of Watchers is the only thing that appears to correlate with sales.

2004 (I think...) Gibson SG Special. Bought this recently but have come to the conclusion I'm more of a PRS man (ugh) so it has to go. Points to note: After it came to me I replace the dusty old Gibson tuners with Gotoh locking tuners - much nicer. Still have the originals. Whoever did the wiring job was having an off day, so I replaced the pots, jack, and wiring with a "modern wiring" loom from Jame's Home of Tone --- CTS pots, switchcraft jack, and a solderless connector so changing pickups is easy if you want to. Pickups are non-original. I don't know what they are and neither did the previous owner but they 1) sound good to me 2) sound a bit PAF-fy (but I am definitely not an expert...) Guitar has definitely been played (personally I think this is a good sign). There are dings, swirls, paint chips, scratches etc to the body, headstock, etc. I've tried to photograph the worst of them. Its not a case queen! I'm looking for £799 collected from Burntisland, Fife or can meet in Haymarket in Edinburgh during the working week. ***SOLD*** Not really looking for trades but you can ask. A Squier P-bass, perhaps? I'm also interested in Boss stomps or interesting amps... Gallery of lots and lots of pics here: https://imgur.com/a/sg-special-VM7Fwcd Selected highlights below:
