  2. Hi all, Selling this, which I bought here. Fantastic pedal, and personally, I think it's an improvement over the original Microtubes concept as the crossover works very well on bass. However, as it turns out, I prefer doing things "in the box" using my laptop. Moreover, my partner keeps finding pedals under my desk, and at some point will realise it's not always the same three... Comes with original box and booklet. Blurb below. The Microtubes X series brings the studio method producers have been using the years to cover the whole bass distortion spectrum: from articulate high gain to punchy mild overdrive, raw and gnarly fuzz and everything in between. You now have absolute control in constructing your vision of what the perfect bass distortion texture, definition, and size should have. High-pass frequency: Controls the cutoff frequency to be distorted, ranging from 100Hz (for thicker, fuzzier saturation) or 1kHz for ultra-sharp definition. Low-pass frequency: Controls the cutoff frequency to be mixed back to the high-pass side. Ranging from 50Hz (for only sub-bass) and 500Hz to preserve some clean mids. Level: Sets the overall output volume of the unit. Drive: Sets the amount of distortion for the high pass side. Mix: Sets the blend between low-pass and high-pass signals. Mids: Active mid control placed after the Mix control. +-12dB @ 500Hz.
  3. Going very much against the grain here, but I find the classic EMJ J set to sound fantastic on a fretless Jazz Bass. Highly recommended!

It is probably the best sounding traditional Jazz Bass I've played and I would keep it, but I have a Japanese one with EMGs that I cannot part with and suits me better anyways. So I am putting it up for sale. Comes with case and tools. Bought from Lozz196 of this parish, who is a top notch bloke. The bass looks immaculate to me.   9. Hi All, So, I am relisting this semi-hollow beauty, which is in tip-top shape (including a fret leveling done at the Gallery). It is a fantastic instrument, but having two MIJ Prestige ones I find myself privileging those over this one—not because of the series, but largely because Nordies aren't really for me. It is, overall, a stunning specimen, and it comes with its lightweight case. Happy to send additional pictures if there's a need for that. Specs pasted below. The bass you see in the video is the one that is actually for sale. Excuse the wrong notes! The bass is in London. Shipping of course possible. Happy to use Reverb, so long as you pay the fees.   11. If I didn’t have a 1993 800, I’d be all over this. These are incredible basses.
  12. I think it’s a 1306, not a 3006, so the series just before the top of the line series was labelled Prestige. I can’t see the serial at the moment, but I would peg it as a 1993 or so model. It’s an absolutely stellar bass, absolutely nothing to envy to the Prestige models—I should know, I have both. Body should be a sandwich of Mahogany and Padouk.
  13. Just bought a bass off of Lozz196 in the most excellent transaction. He was a true gentleman. The transaction was super smooth, and, to improve on that, it turned out to be mutually beneficial as I happened to have a case that Lozz needed. Excellent bloke, highly recommended!

  18. So, I got this beauty from @Pinball of this parish. This was my second Ray and, as much as I enjoy them and could use their tone for a thing or two, they just are not for me. Considering that I now have to move all of my stuff to London and might be reasonably expected to get rid of a few earthly possessions in the process, I thought that this was as good a time as any to list it and have it go to a good home. I would really prefer for it to stay in the BC family. The bass is a 1998 (September 23rd, 1998) ceramic-equipped Musicman Stingray in Trans Red with a maple board. The bass is stunning, and has a few very small dings which I have tried to capture as well as possible—clearly, the instrument has been gigged, but I would say lovingly. The neck has some discolouration, which is to be expected, especially in a bass this age. I did, however, clean the fretboard following the process recommended by Ernie Ball and it is now looking quite a bit better. I also polished the frets with extra-fine steel wool, and the bass really plays great. I think I liked it better than my old HH, which had to alnico humbuckers. This, I think, sounds more balanced. Some photos available here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/M7u3Wh7DRZMLiGrt5 (I now notice I left a piece of tape attached to the pick up: that was to protect the pole pieces from attracting steel wool debris when polishing the frets, and it will of course be removed.) It will come with a hard case, which is extremely battered, but will do the job at least for the purposes of protecting the bass during transit. Which leads me to the topic of shipping, which is of course possible. In terms of trades, I regret to say that I am not really interested, unless you have an Ibanez EHB1005SMS (the short scale, multiscale version), in which case let's talk. Feedback below.
  19. I have the version powered by the two AA batteries. I have no idea why they made that choice, but I will say that I really don't think it's useless. Incidentally, I think somebody on Talkbass did try to see how it worked and they found out that there is some op amp trickery which jacks up the voltage. I would agree that it requires some more extreme adjustments compared to an average pre, but I think that's also its charm. Also, it works extremely well in cut mode, which, I find, is a weakness of most preamps I have tried. In comparison, I think the preamp on the Premiums is okay-ish—I really don't like how the high frequency has been set. At any rate, I really don't like onboard preamps that much anymore. There are a number of other solutions that work better, especially post-tracking, so I don't worry too much about it. Another important point is that the Barts on that bass really require some adjusting to. First, they need to be set much, much closer to the strings than you would a different pick up—really, EMG distances: 2.5 to 2mm depressing the strings at the last fret works well. Second, they really shine when they are not blended 50/50. Although I think that tone, too, is quite good, the phase cancellation is really significant. In terms of working well in a mix, the 5005 really has no comparison among my basses. The SR30th5pII Premium I have works well too, but the Nordies generally require some additional work.
  20. Hi All, I might be willing to part ways with my trusty SKB as I am moving back to London and I have far too much stuff that I have to carry over. It's just a fantastic case, which has accompanied me to a number of exotic destinations without no problems whatsoever. It's in excellent condition. Some people have reported serious scratching with these cases, but either I've been very lucky or they were greatly exaggerating... It comes with the gigbag I used for it, which (unlike many gigbags) fits nicely in it and is well padded. Happy to upload pics later on if requested. I am based in Liverpool at the moment, but I will be travelling back to London frequently until I find a flat there and then be based there. Also happy to ship if needed.
