1. thank you so much guys. I appreciate a lot this kind of feedback. 51m0n, I think he would be really happy to know that his drumming reminds Tim Alexander. Primus is one of my band's greatest influences. anyhow, as soon as i've finished to mix the guitars and bass I will post the results, thus hoping for some more feedback thanks!
2. Hi guys, I've finally managed to lock my drummer inside our rehearsal room to record some drums for our new self produced EP. this is my very first attempt at recording drums, and if there's something I really want to point out is that everything I know about it I've learnt from some (excellent, in my opinion, yet - obviously - not really exhaustive) youtube tutorials. We used a 200-Euros-worth 8-microphone mic set, an Alesis IO 26 8-channel audio interface, my trusty 4-yo acer laptop and a couple of behringer studio monitors. Everything was recorded in reaper, and I managed - don't know how! - to resist the temptation of adding lots of plugins. what you're going to hear is the raw, unedited mix (I've just made some panning, and fixed a couple of phase issues). I'm pretty happy with the results, but I think there's plenty of room for some additional editing. adding gates and eq's aside, I don't really like I think I will have to face some harsh to make the toms sound clear and loud. In my opinion they're tuned too low. Plus, I'm not really digging the snare: the resonances are too loud - although this issue could be partly solved, with reasonable ease, adding a smart eq to the overheads tracks. I'll try to fix it in some way. What I really don't know how to fix is my drummer's brain. I'm still wondering where he got the idea of humming the guitar part... damn idiot! I would appreciate a lot if could take a couple of minutes and give me some feedback! The track is attached. Thanks a lot.

unless you are using linux, I think reaper is definitely the best choice. great daw software. if your computer is running linux, anyway, you can still try ardour, which seems to work very well.
4. thank you so much guys. it's great to find such an amazing welcome committee! I really have to say that this forum is surprisingly cool, and I'm already in love with it. apart from that, it's a great way to talk about basses and bass-related stuff, while practicing some written english. I definitely need it. luckily enough, it looks like I haven't completely lost the ability to write an understandable sentence in this language. that's a heartening result, since my university exchange programme application is eligible to be selected in just a bunch of months... i need to hurry up (and write a lot!) in order to recover completely! GreeneKing, a heartfelt thank you from my language skills
5. hey, thank you so much. I appreciate a lot you sharing these little - and yet very useful - secrets. unfortunately I don't use logic, thus I guess I won't have the chance to experiment with those great FX very soon. but I'll try to emulate these plugins with some software I have in my VST folder. Cubase and Reper should do a pretty good job in hosting some LFO's and a bunch of automations. hopefully. nvertheless, the youtube stereo sound thing is weird. I think I'll have to make some tests to find the right format. Thank you for the hint on the MV4!
6. hi mike, your playing is awesome. as usual, i dare say! anyhow, thanks for plugging your bass in logic. the sound is way cleaner than in your previous vids - which I still dig a lot. however, I've got a couple of dumb questions for you: firstly, haow did you manage to get a stereo sound on a youtube video? that's something astonishing, I even tried to watch the video in low quality on the tube, and it's keeping a really wide stereo image. that's surprising! Can I ask you how you made it? did you use the FLV conversion trick? moreover, did you use any effects on your bass? it sounds like your bass is a bit widened. reverb and slight panned delay - perhaps with different time values for each side (to me, it sounds somehow similar to the effect you applied to the fretted bass track in "sing your own anthem" - by the way: I'm still wondering how you managed to get such a kickass sound)? thanks!
7. thank you guys. this is what I would call a hearty welcome. glad I landed to this great shore! Karl, grazie mille! I appreciate it a lot.
8. that's a great review. Anyhow, I understand those who pointed out the BA500 thing. I've tried to tweak it a lot. In vain. It just seems not to be able to deliver a good sound for today's bass players. The solid state tone it's got sounds pointless to me. It's not exactly what one would call "clean", nor is it a very gritty sounding head. Since we are living in the age of extremes, I definitely prefer to rely on the CL or the SVT-4. Anyhow, did anyone tried to enable automations (using a host like cubase, reaper... ). i've got some experience in automating Guitar Rig 3 parameters (see here), but never tried with SVX.
9. if your longing for the new version is not that strong, and the old version still arouses your curiosity, and, moreover, you're not bothered by a metal box hanging on your belt, there's a used belt-attachable sad preamp for sale in an italian forum. It's gonna leave for 100 euros. I'm in touch with the seller, and I've made a couple of sweet deals with him. If you are interested, I can give him a nudge. here is the link to the the ad: http://forum.megabass.it/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=40498
10. PM'd. @RayFW: as far as I know, it should have a 18mm string spacing at the bridge. This bass looks pretty similar (shape-and-electronics-wise) to the Status Energy I used to own. If the electronics are similar as well, this bass should feature a couple of Hyperactive active humbuckers and a volume-balance-tone electronics layout. I loved the elctronics on my energy, and loved its slightly mid-scooped modern bite. didn't like the wooden neck, though. didn't like it at all.
11. hi everybody, I'm biro. Italian bass player, living in the astoundingly beautiful (though astonishingly boring) florence, probably going to spend some time in leicester next year (god bless the erasmus programme). I'm a law student, I play in couple of bands, mostly fast and heavy stuff, and I'm a total gearhead. My main bass is a 1991 Peavey TL-Six bass, Tim Landers signature six-stringer. Great instrument, and, as stated in some review on harmony central, a real poor man's Alembic. I also own one of those infamous H&S ebay phenomena: a Sequoia six string fretless, which I consider one of the sweetest deals I've ever made, and a Spirit by Steinberger 5 stringer. I don't care too much about the amps. They're big and heavy and I'm too lazy to carry them out. And since I'm kind of a nerd, and getting used to Guitar Rig and Ampeg SVX was not a problem, I tend to rely on a good tube preamplifier and a laptop for my gigs. As a few brave ones may care, here are the links for my youtube channel and myspace page: http://ballpointmusic.tk http://ballpointvideos.tk Before i forget: I've been dragged here by Boneless... but, unlike him, I'm not a native speaker. Please be kind! I hope I'm not going to bother you with my awful grammar skills.
