2.
Would you like to trade it for a Sandberg Califórnia TT5? It's a 5 string jazz with 2 single coils Cheers
They are fantastic instruments, but the TT is not quite what I am after. Thanks!
3. I am tentatively putting this on sale as I have some expenses planned and, most importantly, I realised (very late) that I like single coils and jazz basses. This is a 2013 specimen. I am using the pictures taken by Chiliwailer of this parish, but I am happy to snap new ones if need be—not that anything has changed! I have never played this bad boy outside of my flat. This is a truly remarkable instrument. Its only flaw is that of not being a jazz bass, which—I have come to learn—is my type of bass. Fantastic conditions, set up by yours truly in the best possible fashion, excellent condition. Tradewise, I am looking at 5 string jazz basses. I could consider a straight swap or a cheaper instrument with cash my way. Face to face in London works orders of magnitude better. And you'll get to try my famous coffee too! I do not have its original case, which I believe is still in the hands of the previous owner. 4. If only you were interested in trades! These are fantastic instruments, have a free bump on me.
5.
I think the inner coils sound more towards a P bass. The outer coils start to sound nasally not unlike a Jazz. Perhaps I'm thinking more an active Jazz than a passive one.
Yes, but the point is that there is quite a lot of phase cancellation going on, and it occurs in a manner that is quite distinct from what would happen with a J bass. Also, the neck pick up is much closer to the neck than it would on a J bass. I'll record a quick comparison later.
6.
Simple reply - a twin pick up Stingray. You get Jazz-like coil selection at the click of a switch. The HS version does the Jazz best and the Lakland HS sound. And of course, a full fat Stingray H sound.
Actually, I don't think this is quite true. I have a Stingray 5HH—yes, I understand you said that the HS does the Jazz thing best—and It sounds miles away from a Jazz to be honest. Technically speaking, the HH should be capable of pulling out the same tone of the HS when using the inner coils. To my ears that does not, in any manner whatsoever, resemble a Jazz-type tone. The same applies to the use of the outer coils. Granted, I am not speaking about the possibility of using the individual coils soloed, but still, I think it's pretty far away from a jazz bass type of tone, which is actually something that troubles me. In a way, my 35", neck-through. 6-string Ibanez BTB with Norstrand Big Singles sounds closer to a Jazz than my Stingray 5 HH does.
7. I am now the proud owner of Dan's Stingray 5 HH. The bass sounds completely bonkers, and Dan is a top bloke. A pleasure to deal with, really!
8. Oh my! And that's so close!
9. What year is it from? I am actually after an L2500, but I could be tempted...
10. PM'd (a couple data back).
11. Oh my. The gas alert is going up for me!
12. So, I am selling this tiny monster. Watch the video if you want to know more, but the core of the matter is: if you are looking for an extremely portable and quite versatile amp with heaps of personality and volume (yes, it is *loud*), look no further. It's got a tube and you'd be set for any sort of tubey sounds. https://www.youtube....h?v=XzDohmkXeJs It comes with its matching cabinet, the Orange PPC108, which is a beautifully sounding small cab, *especially* on larger stages where you have a PA anyway. However, if you plug the head in a decently sized cabinet (say a 4x12 or 2x12), it becomes a giggable amp. It was certainly loud enough to rehearse in a power trio combo. That being said, I mostly bought it for the purpose of recording a very specific guitar, which I no longer own. I experimented with both miking and going direct from the headphone output into a cab simulator. I was amazed at the results in both cases. It comes with its power lead and, hoping I can find it, its original box. Happy to meet in Islington or Central London. I'd rather not post, but let's see. Some specs: Power: 20W (hybrid) Tube: one 12AX7 tube preamp with solid state power amp Controls: Volume, Tone and Gain Single channel Impedance: 4 ohm minimum Headphone output Aux input for MP3 or CD Dimensions: 6.5" x 5.3" x 3.74" Weight: 1.87 lb.
13. Interested! Though I'll have to talk to the Mrs First.
14. Interested! What year is it from?
15. Perfect, this helps me quite a lot. I was a little afraid that a low-cut might have been in order with these, unless going FRFR for quite a lot of money is an option. At this point, a lightweight amp is probably the wisest choice. My original thinking in using a powered speaker was also very much informed by the fact that I tend to use a laptop and plugins all the time, so that perhaps going into something with a flatter response would have made sense, and would have allowed me to use it on guitar too. However, I see now that the tradeoff would probably be too big for it to be a convenient deal. Thanks a lot!
16. Ok, I know this has been discussed in the past (though I am not really succeeding in finding any conclusive info). I have recently started playing with people again, and I am in the market for an amp. Now, I live in London, cycle or use the Tube, so something enormous is completely off the table. As a consequence, I am thinking about a 1x12 or something like it. TC Electronic, Peavey (the Max series), and Fender Rumble 100 v3. Then, however, I thought: what about buying a powered speaker, and putting a sansamp or Zoom B3 before it, running my amp / cab combo combination? After all, I thought, one could probably get better bang for the buck in terms of wattage, though I am not entirely sure whether the W power would be reflected by the rig's volume. Anybody has experience with this? My question, broadly, is whether something like this http://www.thomann.de/gb/ld_systems_play_12a.htm (it's literally the first one I stumbled upon) could do as well as an amp of comparable wattage such as the ones I mentioned. Many thanks!
17.
Is that definitely an Allparts neck, I've three on various basses and all have exactly the same stamp "Allparts Licensed by Fender" across the heel? I thoughts they were USA also (might be wrong there though)? Either way, good luck with the sale, but might be best to confirm now rather than getting an irate PM after the sale
You raise a valid point. To be honest, the other Allparts neck I have does have does say "allparts". It does, however, also bear similar numbers and the same "made in canada" sticker. I'll check again.
18.
Hi, it looks like there was a decal on the headstock at some point that has been sanded off now. Is this right? Or is it just a reflection or lighting issue?
I think it's most likely the glue residue left after a failed attempt of the previous owner to apply a decal (of which I know). It does not feel like it's been sanded off. I don't have it here, and I'll check as soon as I get home.
19. Pics! https://goo.gl/photos/tQFqZj2V8REAXSsi9
20. Looks lovely. I am really looking forward to your opinions, most importantly because if I recall correctly, you did own a Dingwall for some time.
21. Well, I mean, you might be able to do it. But the question is: if you get something like a Raspberry Pi, then you'll need a keyboard, a mouse, a display—you could have a touch screen one, but I digress. The external audio interface is a must for reasons of quality of sound and because the Pi (if that's what you're after) comes with just a combined audio jack. I fail to see how the whole thing is going to be less bulky than the average laptop plus sound card to be honest...
22. Hey all, I am selling this very nice neck. I had bought it to replace the fretless neck on my fretless Mexican Jazz Bass. However, I sold that one and no longer need it as I bought a new fretted J with a very nice neck—sure enough, an Allparts one. As a result, I haven't even tried it on. Of course, you need to provide your tuners and string tree. It's nicely finished, Maple / Rosewood. Can send pics as soon as I get home. I'd rather have it collected from London, but might be convinced to post it.
23. Short answer: yes, it is possible. Long answer: it is possible, provided that you have a nice external soundcard running on Firewire or USB 2.0 (or greater) and enough processing power (which isn't too much). But yes, of course, I've been playing live through my laptop since 2007 or so.
24. I actually think it is white, but then again, my girlfriend tells me I am useless when it comes to colours. I'll try to shoot a picture with some reference.
