1.
I don't know... you could try not buying it..?
I've owned a Fender in a case like this and I would never buy one again. The case that is.
2. This joker is asking top dinero for an entirely unremarkable hard case on the premise of it being well...vintage & original. I know some sellers can get carried away with the hyperbole, dreaming of unrealistic prices for everyday instruments, but for a hard case? http://www.ebay.co.u...mIAAOSwQYZWyDH5 Why does this bother me as much as it does?
3.
That sounds like a replacement preamp has been fitted. Push pull is probably an active/passive. One will be blend and one volume, the others will be some combination of treble, bass, mids, tone etc. Originally you would have had blend, vol, treble and bass.
Yikes, an extra string and more controls to fiddle with. This'll take some getting used to.
Mine also had Seymour Duncan PU's on an active circuit. Probably a retrofit but hey.
For a moment I thought I'd bought this bass mentioned earlier but it still says SGC on one of the pickup covers.
4. It's active but I have no idea what the pots do. One of them is push\pull. Another one is stacked.
5.
photos would be good
Yes. OK. A new set of strings are on the way and then I'll give it a full clean. The previous owner was an elderly chap with a painful wrist who, although admitted to neglecting it these last few years, had been reluctant to sell it on. Pots are a bit scratchy and there's detritus to clear from all the hard to reach crevices but it'll come good. Feels like one of the better made guitars I've handled over the years. Confirmation of the model would be good. SB315? 6. Very pleased to have picked up one of these yesterday. From the info in this thread I've ascertained it's Japanese, made in 1991 and probably a SB315. In good nick and for the price I paid it seems like I couldn't have found a better bargain.
7. Those total strangers who always insist that you should smile a bit more seem manic depressive to me.
8.
Yes it's MIJ & yes, it's worth a punt. Hohners of this era were made by Moridaira and are very nice indeed - some little guy called Rover - or is it Prince? Some dog's name anyway - is quite well-known for playing one of their Tele copies! Hard to tell from the pics but this one is probably mid-late 70s. Later Hohners (Arbor series & early Professionals) were Korean and not to the same standard initially. Jon.
It's gone and I didn't get a chance to bid. Ah well, I hope it's a dog, lol. Thanks for the info.
9.
It's only a few miles down the road from me, but I can't really warm to it. After all, when buying you also need to think about the possibilities to sell as well. Ironic really, as I'll be in Plymouth at the end of next week, so if you'd wanted it I could have brought it down to you.
Thanks man.
10. Don't know if this is Japanese but it's a Hohner P copy and it looks old. Pictures aren't very detailed but it's close to me in Plymouth and pickup only. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hohner-Bass-Guitar-/291715299095?hash=item43eb963717:g:BssAAOSwHxVW8Cwv Wondering if worth a punt.
11. Why not grab the mic and tell them all to stop staring at you because it's putting you off. That should fix it. jk.
12.
This one is curious in that the headstock seems to have been modded . http://m.ebay.co.uk/...973?_mwBanner=1 Good price for a Thunder though
I've been looking for one like that, around that price, but I can't bring myself to want it with such a blatant.... mutilation.
13. I've got an organ donor card. In the event of my untimely demise, doctors can transplant any bit of me that's wanted to improve the life of someone else. I won't mind, I'll be dead, but to someone it could be a matter of life or death. I'm like a Fender guitar, unique but similar, there's lots like me. I think of the bits of Fenders that appear for sale here and on ebay as organs that are donated so another guitar can exist. Rather than the end of one guitar, it becomes a vital part of many others. That's only because they are so common, they can be re used. I wouldn't relate that analogy to another guitar which isn't so much in demand. If there isn't a demand for its components, then as a whole it remains worth more than the sum of its parts. I need a lie down now.
14. Don't know if the forum's seen this before. Attempt at humour matches attempted luthiery. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ShonKy-Firewood-Special-No6-Bass-Guitar-Aged-rustic-/222050656812?hash=item33b340222c:g:XFAAAOSwu1VW4y9C
15. Quilted maple makes me feel sick. Same as it did in the last thread.
16. 'Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)' by Tom Waits uses 'Waltzing Matilda' in its chorus.
17. 'Steady As She Goes', Raconteurs?
18.
CMI (Cleartone Musical Instruments - a Marshall sub-brand) Jazz copy, same bass as the Avon discussed here: http://basschat.co.u...avon-jazz-bass/ Probably made by Chushin Gakki, ply body, a decent neck if you're lucky, single-coil Telecaster pickups etc. Might be cool if you can grab it cheap enough (about £50 - £60ish), those stickers would all come off no bother if you warm them with a hairdryer to soften the glue. Jon.
Thank you
19. Any thoughts on the guitar hiding under the stickers? Says 'Made In Japan' on the neckplate. http://www.ebay.co.u...YcAAOSwe7BWzu~0
20. Fuuturama/Resonet? Never seen one but just throwing it out there.
21.
True, you pay more for a MacBook, but you get reliability, very little in the way of viruses & no blue screen of death (noissues on any of mine in the 9 years of being a Mac user).
You've just reminded me that I haven't seen a Windows BsoD since before Vista, which must be coming on for nearly a decade now. Not wanting a Windows/Mac debate BTW. I'm reluctantly happy to use either. As for the OP, I would forego the laptop expense and build one myself using cheaper desktop PC components in a small portable case, (see LAN party case), for maximum bang for buck.
22.
my favourite bit of my Liverpool trip was having a pint in the Grapes at the same table as the Beatles had
That's what tell the tourists...the Beatles probably had a pint most of the old pubs at some point. Next time try Ye Crack In The Wall where Lennon used to drink... says my mum. Or try the Philharmonic pub... according to local legend Hitler used to drink there.
23.
and Liverpool Airport could be renamed John Lennon Airport ... er, just a minute.
Fazakerley! You Speke the truth.
24. Hailing originally from that part of the world, I've had the impression that the Beatles driven tourism has been growing over the last decade or so. As the years pass, the myth increases and so do the Beatles tourists. Economics of the region being what they are, it makes sense to cater for this growth industry, thereby tempting more tourists in reciprocating growth... eventually creating a urban theme park, multinational ownership the renaming of the city as Beatlesworld.
25. Don't worry guys, I've had five different basses I can remember since I've been a member of this site, never more than two at one time, and with the occasional wait in between them. This is just one of those waiting times... the chase makes the capture more sweet. Thank you for your generosity of thought, Basschat is a good forum for that. Bass player solidarity makes me return to stalk gear and contribute even if I'm not playing.
