  1. I may have posted this before but we were in New York in September 1996 celebrating our wedding anniversary, and I was allowed to buy a new Stingray from Manny’s that was manufactured September 10th 1996. Eventually brought it back to Blighty, used it for about 4 years and sold it on eBay to a lady in Scotland who bought it for her boyfriend. Been looking for it ever since. . Serial No. B03721.
  2. My feeling is if a recently purchased item is faulty to the point where it needs repair, then the retailer is not the ideal, or correct, repairer. Unlikely to have the expertise. Return to the manufacturer for repair or better still refund / replace.

I was pleased it wasn’t about that bloke in U2.
  4. I haven’t watched any live stuff but did watch Keane and Shania on iPlayer. The BBC seems to have finally cracked the sound this year. In past years it was always a bit crap with vocals often hard to hear. I was very impressed with Keane, and Shania was obviously having issues with her IEM’s at times, especially at the start. Great band except for the bass player.
  5. I see it also works on Bagpipes. Useful multitool.
  6. Came back to nix the offer. Turns out said Scottish friends will not now be here until after my daughter goes back. Glad you got it sorted anyway.
  7. If you can get it to Ayr I have a couple of friends coming down to visit in about three weeks. After that my daughter will be coming through the tunnel in a camper van for few days visit and returning back up to Utrecht. So could possibly meet up with someone at the Calais end. Long and convoluted, plus I haven’t asked any of them if they would be willing, but it’s an option 🙂. And if it happens to be the ‘96 Stingray I stupidly sold to some woman up that way, I might want to keep it 😉
  8. About as long as it takes to cook the spaghetti.
  9. Some good ideas here. I don’t boil or try to revive, they are all LaBella DTB’s and have all been switched around various basses and showing it. Especially the G’s at the tuner end. The rest of the sets are good for spares.
  10. I’m talking about strings well past their sell by date so no use to anybody. Recycling or landfill? I have a small collection building up and need a clear out.
  11. Similar experience for me after years in 4 and 5 piece cover bands, move to the sticks, hook up with a guitarist with a voice. End up as a duo playing pop songs I never would have listened to in the past and having a ball.
  12. Confession time. I’m pirating a Spotify premium account belonging to my son. But I don’t make a huge demand on it. I have a playlist of stuff we do in the band, or intend to do, and that’s it. I have no interest in what they listen to. An uncle of the daughter in law is one of the founders of Spotify in Sweden so I suppose there is a small amount of loyalty there. I use the Apple music apps for what I have in a fairly extensive old iTunes library on the mac and access that on a Homepod mini as well plus some internet radio stations. I keep thinking I might subscribe to AM so this thread has been interesting.
  13. Sounds very much like fret buzz so a proper set up should cure it. Plenty of how to’s on YouTube and worth knowing how to do it yourself.
  14. Personal effects don’t attract any duty or taxes. And as a musician they are tools of the trade.
  15. Allegedly the world's rarest album. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cl443d48x3yo I don’t know much about the artists although I did buy the moo moo land CD. For the kids you understand. But this, the only copy in existence, seems highly unlikely given the number of people involved in producing it.
  16. A very uplifting thread.
  17. You’re loading in, or out, of a pub, you’ve got your arms full of obviously unwieldy and heavy amplifier or speaker cabinet, and there’s an ugly lump of humanity in your way. And he shows no sign of moving despite looking at you. A polite excuse me, twice, and it moves just enough to let you pass. He’s just trying to impress his mates, or a woman and cause a confrontation. Small minded prick. (decode that any way you like)
  18. Yes and the kicker is the gig is upstairs and no lift.
  19. I went to a jazz gig outside a bar in Utrecht last year. All the band members turned up on bikes. The drummer was especially inventive stashing everything inside the kick drum and floor tom and using a baby carriage trailer.
  20. And a much better amplifier, that 6 1/2 “ speaker won’t do you any favours.
  21. A local chap in our village has a glorious yellow Edsel convertible. It’s a huge impressive looking boat of a car.
  22. I’m happy to say I don’t have tinnitus but I am slightly deaf in my right ear. I use KZ ZS 10’s at home through a Focusrite for practice and sometimes hear the odd flat sounding note. But the same IEM’s fed through our mixer on a gig present no such issues. The world is weird sometimes.
  23. 164 on Freesat apparently. Hopefully they will repeat it sometime.
  24. I was in a band that played all those artists music. We just called it country rock.
  25. Couple of requests for a gig next week so I spent, oh I don’t know, 5 minutes, on Achy Breaky Heart/ Tulsa Time and King of The Road.
