I think I may have played one on a festival backline a couple of years ago. It was an Ampeg 15 combo of the non retro look. It had the scrambler option which I left off. I plugged in my fx board and was happy. Unplugged and left. Sorry that's the best report anyone can manage.

What the p player should play and what they actually play are sometimes very much not the same thing. It takes a fair bit of skill to do the comping chord thing up in behind the treble bit. A lot of them never learn to do it. They have previously always played bass with no bassist. Big trouble ensues.

My really sweet vintage gear there might be ten working ones left in the whole country, might be less? I get that from buying stuff I never saw before, never saw for sale for before, and never seen another for sale or otherwise since. No idea if they have any particular mojo of their own as I never heard another. Most likely they are very reluctantly let go of in general for a reason, and similarly hoarded with few public outings.

In that vein, in my later endeavours, I was the only to show up that could read dots, thanks to violin studies.

If your bandmates are also happy going down the IEM route then by all means take it. No bass cab lugging for you!

Watts are cheap. 200 will do most of the time but better to have a bit more just in case. The rehearsal cab could well be faulty. One blown driver will sound pretty bad as it flaps in reverse, at the same time interfering with cab tuning for the remainders. You only have to be as loud as the drums and everyone has to stay under the vocals. So really you only have to be loud enough to keep up with the vocal but that's very hard to judge while standing next to the drum set. In the bush league you rely on audience feedback to dial it all back if your vocals are being drowned out. A drummer with experience and taste will play according to what the PA can do and what the room needs. Sometimes cookie monster vocals are what the room expects. That's what you get when the PA is hopeless outgunned by the band, not my thing at all, but it is a style in some venues. 200w would not work without a bigarse cabinet.

Lofty mate! I doubt half the members here gig with bass capable PA's. It isn't necessary for pub gigs. A kick drum is a very loud thing just by itself. Don't get so loud you can't hear the kick and all will be well.

Now we're getting somewhere... Yes, get a rig proper. It has to be able to keep up with the drums at whatever level is appropriate for not being obnoxious. A 15 or 210 should be enough for most open mic situations with a vocal PA.

Not many passive PA cabs are much chop with bass. My best advice is worry about tone way less for the meantime. Make a bass noise and crack on with learning to play bass.

I think you mean to say it is engaged as soon as power is turned on. That is strange to me as most pedals have a latching on off stomp to engage and disengage the effect. I guess yours is a momentary electronic switch and the unit defaults as engaged when powered up. Did you RTFM? Maybe there's an internal toggle for it to default the other way.
