  1. Bought for a project that it just wasn't quite right for, now replaced by a rather lovely EBMM USA SUB I won't drivel on, you can see what it is and what it's about. Fender MIJ Geddy Lee body, DiMarzio PUPs, Audere Pre, Badass II, Status Jazz neck. Looks like it means business because it does mean business No pickguard in photos below because I don't do pickguards on Jazzes, but I have the original hanging around to go back on Collection from Whitstable or meet up, ideally at a London mainline station please. I enjoy meeting fellow bassists and have had it 100% with couriers having a 1:4 problem rate over recent months. I won't split, sorry. No trades either I'm afraid. Two pics below, I'll take the neck off and do heel and pocket shots over the weekend
  2. Neck’s coming off mine tomorrow just to check it isn’t in fact a ‘63 😆
  3. Indeed I did 👍
  4. There is this 60’s = magical/enigmatic/craftmanship versus 70’s = poor QC/heavy/lottery thing, I’m guessing early 70’s has more in keeping with the former than the latter 👍
  5. It does feel very 60’s, far more like a ‘69 I used to own than my old ‘73
  6. Serial suggests '73, receipt in the case dated '71. Dare I say Fender QC......... Bought from The Gallery in June after months of looking for a 3TSB/dark rosewood 70's Precision. Have to admit I didn't play it before I bought it, largely because the last time I waited to play a bass at The Gallery it sold before I had the chance. It's hard to say what makes a bass talk to you, but this one has done so more than most; it appears to require very little effort to produce a glorious fat PBass tone, even with rounds it's far more 60's than 70's to my ear, think Motown/Stax not JJB/Simenon. The body and neck have just the right amount of playwear to suggest that it was gigged a lot but otherwise well looked after as opposed to abused. We have a 60s/70s project in the early stages at present and played through the rather lovely Ashdown Drophead 200 that I bought to go with this bass, all is sounding nicely retro round theses parts. There will of course be a few basses listed for sale in the very near future to pay for this one. The cycle of life
  7. Some more.......
  8. Ah, that’s a good idea and one I missed 👍
  9. Re clingfilm or plastic, this is what I received from UPS when I did it….
  10. That is the absolute bottom line, like many large organisations, they are characterised by a systematic absence of care for or responsibility towards their customers, they are largely unregulated, cover every possible example of professional failing on their part in small print, and make communication and complaint almost impossible 😡
  11. Worm meet can 👍 Completely agree but aware others don’t 😆
  12. What bass is it Jay?
  13. ….by which I mean the item was seriously damaged, not the box, their argument is that the box is there to soak up the damage and not to arrive in pristine condition!
  14. They generally won’t reimburse unless it was fully insured AND it didn’t arrive or was SERIOUSLY damaged 😡
  15. My heart sinks when anyone sends me anything via any courier these days 😕
  16. Thanks Steve, it’s a nice one, price was right for a bass I can gig without too much stress but which is a truly vintage instrument in age, look, feel, and tone. It came with some VERY old rounds that normally wouldn’t be my thing, preferring flats on a Precision, but which just work so well on this. It’s one of those basses that I just want to pick up and play, and for whatever reason I haven’t found that with most of the basses I’ve owned. I won’t say it’s a keeper because experience dictates that’s an elusive quality, but I’m certainly enjoying having it 👍
  17. My current vintage Fender BTW
  18. I am of course inviting a load of flak by saying it, but I find that compared to a skinny neck, a nice a beefy Precision neck adds a little heft to the Jazz tone 👍
  19. Not sure if any wide-necked Jazzes are manufactured however 🤔
  20. I have two, one fretted and one fretless, both bitsas, both very nice, I’ll post some pics at the weekend 👍
  21. Never take me too seriously 👌
  22. 100% this ^ I’d go so far as to say that with the possible exception of a refret I’d not let a tech near any of my basses. Every time a tech has ‘setup’ a bass for me I’ve had to reset it, the worse example being the guy who installed a new nut on a fretless with explicit instructions to replicate the exact depths of each slot of the nut that had broken, but who set it up to be almost unplayable below the third position the slots were so far off the board. ‘That’s how most people have it’ said he in his jaunty workmanlike tone…..
  23. Fender QC strikes again 😆
  24. By the way, that's pretty impressive even by courier standards, but having arrived at its intended destination within a reasonable period of time still has some way to go to beat Parcel Monkey and my lost then found then lost agin then living on a pig farm in Suffolk Mesa Boogie cab
