OK, I get all of this, but how many people who've started/responded to the numerous threads on BC over the years have ever contacted eBay, or even the guy himself, and said the same thing? I agree, his work is not as he represents it - far from it - but I take a more generous view of the underlying reason why than perhaps others do (I may be very wrong). If you feel strongly, perhaps you should do something other than rant here, which does nothing tangible to solve the problem as you see it?

Precision plus Humbucker, any thoughts?
Beedster replied to lucatus's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hi mate, thanks for the info, Delano do some great PUPs, I really like the look of these for my P/H https://www.bestbassgear.com/djc-4-he-m2.htm. Anyone use one of played one? -
Precision plus Humbucker, any thoughts?
Beedster replied to lucatus's topic in Repairs and Technical
That's very true, it's something I wish I'd thought more about when I put in my HB, as whilst there is a clear different in tone between HB and PB PUPs, it's nothing like as evident as it was with PB and JB PUPs (the bass in question was originally P/J and I was never really happy with the J-PUP position or tone so had a HB installed instead). I'm using one of the below from Fender (the bass is routed for this shape not for MM style humbucker, which might also have been a mistake in terms of the range of PUPs available), any thoughts on PUPs that might give more contrast with the Precision PUP welcome.... I naively assumed that being a 'Double-J' it would allow me to tap into a single J-coil should I want to, but it only has two cables so I assume not? -
Old School sounding amp to replace Walkabout

Love that video WoT, great stuff, leaves me wanting to either buy the Handbox amp or perhaps the Walkabout you’re no longer using -
Precision plus Humbucker, any thoughts?
Beedster replied to lucatus's topic in Repairs and Technical
Looking at that I guess you need to decide whether it's the P-PUP or the Ray-PUP that you want in the respective sweet spot, I'm guessing you can't have both? -
I might be breaching a new forum rule by posting without reading the whole thread here A few years ago we started picking up gigs simply because we were quiet, landlords in a few places simply liked bands that could entertain without being loud, and there were apparently not many of them around. Playing DB and having a skilful drummer who could tap as well as hit helped a lot also. I love playing loud, but only when it's appropriate. I prefer quiet.

Your original post didn't suggest any of the above, it simply came across as the usual fosters take, which is why I objected. If you've got something to say, then simply say it, which also gives the person in question the opportunity to respond. And anyway, my main issue was with the 'care in the community' comment, which wasn't yours

Precision plus Humbucker, any thoughts?

Yep, that was my original thinking but have checked it both ways and still the same. Might be an earth issue somewhere perhaps? -

Hi Pablo I installed a Fender humbucker at the neck of what was orginally a P/J. Solo'd it sounds great, it has more grunt that the original J-PUP and is far more usable in that respect. I wouldn;t say I can get a Stingray tone, but what I do get is closer to that than a Jazz. However, unlike that J-PUP, I cannot blend the humbucker and split-coil (Precision) PUP in any usable way, as soon as both are engaged at any decent volume (i.e., past about 6/10 on the volume pots) there is a complete loss of bass and I'm left with a bass tone reminiscent of the gear I was playing in the early 80's! I assume that this is a wiring issue that I need to investigate (the wiring is sound with all leads going to the right places, I'm guessing I might need to reverse polarity on one of the PUPs), but I didn't have this problem with J-PUPs. -
My fave, although perhaps a 'you had to be there' moment, was a pub gig at which our singer/guitarist was having all sorts of tuning issues, mostly because he's not only crap at tuning but also because he'd decided to mess about with the intonation on his guitar, and after he's spent about 2 minutes between each song trying to sort it - and with immaculate timing in a rare moment of silence - a bloke shouted "want me to tune it for you mate?". Like I said, probably had to be there but always brings a smile to my face

SOLD Aguilar TH500 with official bag - PRICE DROP £425
Beedster replied to stevie's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I’ve been hoping a Mesa Walkabout head would come along for a while now, I’m a bit OCD and like to take a spare small amp along to gigs for the inevitable big tube amp fail (so inevitable that it’s yet to happen, but it will of course the day I don’t take a spare). I’m guessing this is more in the DB750 space time wise than the Walkabout, but find myself rather drawn , -

Why not, and they wouldn't be the first band guilty of that anyway -

EDIT: loaded body only for sale (neck gone) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another step in my current gear restructure. This is a rather nice hardtail Strat with a late 70's Fender body, lightly reliced, and a new Fender Mex neck with a lovely big 70's headstock (I tried to source an original '70s maple board neck but nearly every one I played was in such poor shape that I opted for a newbie, and frankly the new Mex stuff is hard to tell apart from the US made gear, hence opting for Mex). Body and neck are both very nice, you may want to cut the nut slightly lower than is currently the case, doesn't bother me but it's as it came out of the factory at present which is normally quite high for most players. PUPs, circuit and pickguard are Seymour Duncan Everything Axe https://www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/everything-axe-pickguard which retails at £320 https://www.gak.co.uk/en/seymour-duncan-everything-axe-guard/126372. Tuners are Fender US. Like the other Strat I'm selling here, this guitar owes me over £1000!

Another step in my current gear restructure. This is a rather nice Strat if you like that lived in/well played/hung out with the Stones look. Neck and body are both original Fender '79, bought from Fender Factors a couple of years back. The body is very very nicely beaten up, please see photos. This is not a case of 'there's a small dink in the upper bout'. The neck is in very good condition, lovely dark rosewood board and, of course, the large headstock Neck and body are the only original vintage Fender parts. PUPs and circuit are from Joseph Kaye https://www.josephkayeguitars.com/about/ who, among others, makes PUPs for Wilco Johnson. Tuners are a nice set of Klusons bought new from WD (I think) last year. Pickguard is a lovely aged 3-ply Tort I picked up from the USA which still has the film in place. Guitar owes me over £1000, £800 is a decent price for this rather lovely old thing.

Having said that, here's mine. Rics, more than any other bass, are less in the instrument than in the player, the band and the amplification. Discuss........

But what did you expect, a useful & useable answer to the question

Indeed, there is no point applying logic, evidence or argument to this discussion, they're useless weapons in the face of Rickenbackers. You either do or you don't get them. End of
