  1. Do you have a strong box in which to courier the cab, Dundee is a long drive for me (10 hours each way), but my recent experience with couriers hasn't been exactly positive? Cheers. Chris

You make a rather good point I have to admit
  3. Early 80's I think?
  4. Just another of life's dreamers/chancers. When that type of bass - which is rather nice and probably worth £1500 - turns up in that context I tend to be a little suspicious.........

So what, sure he’s a great guy and a great player, but I’ve not heard of him or for that matter half the ‘signature’ artists of other brands. If you believe it’s some form of honour bestowed, that’s up to you, but in my view his people talked to their people, sums were agreed and contracts signed. Counter to the ‘honour’ view, I imagine many artists would run a mile at the thought of a signature bass with a large multinational corporation, especially given the poor quality if some of them.
  6. One of the best basses ever made, if I could find the four string version of this for sale I’d be a very happy guy. If you play 5ers and haven’t owned one of these, make the most of an increasingly rare opportunity to do so, I’m confident you won’t be disappointed
  7. Absolutely
  8. BC is a fantastic place to buy gear, it can be a slightly less than fantastic place to sell it at times, but for me the opportunity to trade gear among trusted forum members is a unique feature and in my experience often leaves both parties to the good compared to eBay etc. I don't think people use the feedback forum enough here - that is you occasionally pick up news about a deal gone bad but nothing in the respective seller's feedback thread suggests this - and I find feedback here so unreliable - i.e., a complete positive bias - that if I'm thinking of buying from someone and if I don't already know their rep I generally check out what type of person they are from their posts. If they haven't posted much, I've learned to stay clear, as the one down side here is that if there is a wombler - unlike eBay - there's nothing direct you can do about it (and in this context, don't be fooled into the idea that PayPal always support the buyer, they don't, especially if the seller is an out and out liar and practiced at ripping people off). Having said this, one of the most positive experiences I've ever had buying and selling was when I was screwed by a guy in BC who sold me an amp that had clearly previously caught fire, and more than one member PM'd me suggesting that if I was left out of pocket they'd gladly chip in to help me out. You don't get that on eBay.

Yes, I saw a photo of him plugged into 4 x SVT/8x10, which I assume is his on-stage monitoring. Glorious.

I'd have preferred some monolithic riffage to that aimless tinny fret masturbation

Ah, though this thread was about a newbie. Dread to think what monstrosities live in that museum then. And yes, otherwise the 4005 is about as desirable a bass as it gets for me.

And man, that is one stupidly ugly headstock, and I LOVE Rics. Is RH setting out to destroy the business?

That has to be the least inspiring video I have ever seen of a bass, everything from the back office setting through the poor sound quality and technique through to his apparent disinterest, all make for nothing more than a strong reinforcement of what a lot of bassists think of Rics, and frankly what a lot of guitarists think of bassists :)
  14. Yep, we go looking at new basses, amps and cabs, when a different set of strings might be all that's required
  15. The logic is fine, in practice it makes very little difference having discrete tone controls, and you're probably better off with a Jazz Bass harness, one less thing to go wrong
  16. I'm giving it serious thought mate
  17. Might have to buy the Berg
  18. Hell, that's a great video
  19. Precision with rounds probably gets the best out of it to be honest, Precision with flats comes a pretty close second place. Having said that, it sounds pretty awesome whatever I put through it.
  20. I recall a similar comment tin the manual for my old Mesa power amp. I guess they're talking to guitarists with stereo FX, but I briefly considered a 2x300w all-tube living room hifi. That would certainly have drowned out the neighbour's dog. And everything else for about 5-miles
  21. Loved the playability of both the SLB-100 and 200, but whilst I could get them to sound OK recorded, I could never get them to sound like a DB live. I'd love to give one of these babies a go. However, I'm guessing the USA price point is indicative of it likely costing about the equivalent numbers in pounds, which means I'm probably not going to
