  1. I find it hilarious that folks who like Cliff Richard might throw shade at Elvis....but then, I don't understand British pop culture at all.......
  2. Maybe, but this 4x12 cab is amazing!
  3. And yet, not the same, IMO
  4. While we are at it…compression is the sworn enemy of good sound…you’re just conditioned to like it. Compressed bass tone is as annoying as auto tune.
  5. Respectfully disagree…I have used modelling amps…can’t give you the sound of a tube amp. I will happily haul an old fender tube amp around. Additionally, if kept in good shape, it will always get you through the gig.
  6. Yup...I've heard that before.... I always wanted a Bassman head..this might be better...:) For an old guy, I am way to happy about this. Now to find a vintage amp geek that will take this one. I cannot believe somebody took out the fuse holder....
  7. I think it all depends on the individual instrument, which is why I would probably never buy a bass without playing it. I have owned vintage US Fenders that were superb, but also remember the CBS years when a lot of them were pure crap. It's like picking out a rescue dog....you have to have a connection.
  8. Prime Minister, I think, but then, I am American and often miss the nuances of your "language".....
  9. Thanks! I have tried the cab out with a couple of amps, and think it sounds amazing...probably best paired with a 15, but I am old school and have a big SUV....:)
  10. Yup...I flew with mine to Germany and back..no bother at all...
  11. This...right here...100%
  12. I just acquired this "red knob" (I hear you giggling) Dual showman. The amp is not yet functional (but will be soon), but I tried the 4x12 cabinet and it sounds amazing. It's the "slant front" model, unvented, and has the original (Eminence?) speakers. Questions abound....this is a guitar amp, primarily, but I really long for that vintage valve sound. It should work as a bass head, right? And, yes, I know it's heavy, and I don't care. Also, we don't play at really high levels of gain, so I also don't think I'll blow a speaker. Or, I could just hand it over to a guitarist.....they love these things! Thoughts?
  13. I really enjoy the songs we play in our pub band. We are doing mostly classic rock covers. As a Yank, I don't always get the appeal of certain songs (2468 Motorway, for example), but enjoy them if the crowd does as well, which they seem to. My favorite music to play would be Southern Rock, Big Band Swing, or hardcore Country Swing (Bob Wills-ish), but that's not too popular here. I guess, for me, it's more about making music with good people and finding the right sound for the song you are playing. That is fun for me no matter what.
  14. Welp...the guy did not fancy a fretless (lightweight, baby bassist IMO) so I am off the hook....I learned a lot and feel very vindicated by all of your responses.
  15. -What should have EC played, then? -Mama (Thelma) Houston is 20x better than her daughter -Music college IS pointless, if you have no intuition toward music...otherwise, it was great for me! -Jaco...yeah, okay..gotta agree with you there
  16. Such a great feeling when that happens. I am 65, and lost my dad just a couple of years ago (93). Savor those moments!!
  17. I would argue that both would fill the dance floor, and Freebird is a great way to burn 20 minutes of the last set. Maybe you just have to be a Redneck to appreciate…
  18. I’m really grateful for these responses. I consider this bass to be practically irreplaceable because I would never spend what the replacement would cost, even if it did play as well. I’ve got a Peavey 5 coming in soon that is nothing special. think I’ll offer that.
  19. Thanks for your kind words. It was a very enjoyable week with a bunch of talented kids and good friends.
  20. After playing with thumb anchored for many years, I was shown the benefit of a floating thumb. I straighten my wrist relax my entire hand a bit and it feels great. You do have to figure out the muting, but it’s an easy adjustment.
  21. Depends…who is paying?
  22. A work colleague who has an R & B band has a bassist coming over from Italy to play a bunch of Jubilee gigs. Apparently, he is not bringing a bass, and plays a 5. I was asked if he could borrow mine. I initially said it was okay, but then had second thoughts and agreed he could use my Specter, but not the Pedulla. I don’t know anything about the bassist, and would not be at any of the gigs. I would never show up without my own instrument and am wondering why this guy would…sounds a bit dodgy to me. thoughts?
  23. You would be surprised... "True Love Ways" is my favorite....but there are lots!
  24. Little Feat may be one of the best bands ever... If Slash impressed BB King, that's good enough for me... Linda Ronstadt was a musical force of nature... I can listen to Lyle Lovett and his Large Band for a very long time... If he had lived longer, Buddy Holly would have been the King of Rock 'n Roll...
  25. Having owned a very wide range of basses and also acoustic guitars, I think there is one common thread. Some instruments feel and sound sterile, or boring, or whatever. Others inspire you to play better because of the feedback you get and the response you get from subtle changes in your playing. I am convinced that each instrument has, for lack of a better work, a personality. Why else do some of you own several P basses? That personality is down to a combination of design, electronics, body and neck construction, strings, etc, plus some intangibles. Otherwise, why can you play two identical solid-body basses and they feel and/or sound different?
