1. Ah crap.
 2.
PM'd you 11th May..
Get a shave and you might do better.

 4. My Curbow has an ebanol fretboard and I absolutely love it. Lovely "mirror" finish when polished and it feels very nice to play.
 5.
It's strength, if it has one, is as a means of SHARING musical data
It seems like the guy came up with it in the early eighties - and at the time it would have been potentially very useful. Now there are so many other (better?) options for achieving it.
I'll shut up about it now.
Just because we didn't really warm to it, doesn't mean it wasn't an interesting post or isn't worth commenting on further. I like learning about stuff like this that I haven't come across before.
 6. sh*t - I didn't even realise what time it is. I suck. Anyway - I'm on lessons. I've found in the past that if I try and do it alone then I don't make much progress. Which is weird, cause in all non-music areas of my life, I learn better on my own and can build my own structure where needed. Just doesn't seem to work for me with music.
 7.
Warwick - Germaine Greer Ibanez - Paris Hilton
Germaine Greer?!?!?! I'd laugh, but since I own one this is quite annoying. Paris Hilton for Ibanez is inspired though. Cheap, bit simple - but you still would.
 8. Yup. And a C with a vertical line through it basically means 2/2 these days.
 9.
The Curbow is that 27 fret model isn't it? Very strange one.
Yep. Well - 26 1/2 frets.
 10.
The prototype new site: http://barefacedbass.bassmandesigns.com/ (that sired this thread!)
Yeah I quite like that. Especially if you lose the browny/orange theme.
 11. I can't believe I actually took a file to my newly acquired Warwick. But I did - and managed to escape without serious incident. So I've just put BEAD (.060 - 130) strings on and tuned to C and everything seems pretty good. I came across a post on the Warwick forum which suggested that using a 130B set keeps the pressure on the neck reasonably close to using .045-100 in E. It also suggested a .055 on the Eb (G string) would be even better.
 12. I have a Cort Curbow (tiny body, modern materials etc.) which apparently weighs in at 7lbs (which seems pretty light to me). My Vampyre is about 9lbs (or so the web says) and I can't say I really notice the difference. Any hoo... Warwick - growl! Fender - yawn. Headless - Bill & Ted
 13.
Isn't it just easier to learn to read music?
I didn't want to say that... At the time, it was maybe a useful option for some but now... If I had a child who suddenly turned around and said "dad, I'm going to learn ABC and write music in that from now on", I would slap them. But I guess if some people use it and like it then thats ok... really trying not to be too negative here.
 14. No Enter Sandman? I've changed my mind - I love ABC now.
 15. Would you say there is any real need for it anymore? Tab is popular, and unlike a few years ago standard notation is very easy for people to edit/view on their computers. Plus, there's that tab/notation hybrid used by magazines to save space (like Guitar World). Then you've got free/cheap tools that display midi files in notation etc. and things like Guitar Pro. I must confess I'd never come across it before and am not really surprised that it isn't massively popular.
 16.
I lend a copy to my clients to save me trying to convince them
Clever thinking. Some of the clients I've had, I wouldn't trust getting it back. Lol. Still - I could just inflate their invoice a little more than usual to buy another copy. Although there is only so far you can inflate a bill without it popping.
 17.
Do it if you want to increase your knowledge and ability, not to add to your CV.
Yeah - and don't forget (especially with theory) it can be handy to have something that tells you've understand it correctly.
 18.
20 songs to learn, plus a few covers Some good gigs waiting!!
You got the job then? Nice one mate!
 19.
All the best ones do .. there's a great short book on the subject that sums it up nicely "Don't make me think" by Steve Krug. (get the second edition).
I'll be quite honest, I had never in all these years been on a site where for one second I didn't get side tracked slightly. Even the best ones. Which isn't saying anything except why I found it so odd that the Barefaced site held my attention on their cabs so well. Haven't read that book but I can imagine what it says - and have had discussions on those lines so many times with clients who just don't get it. AAAARRRGGHHHHH!!!!
 20. Disregarding all my usual advice on websites, I'm going to say this because when I thought about it, I found it interesting. I hit the site as someone who'd never heard of Barefaced, didn't know who you were or what you were about except that you made cabs. Without thinking about anything except cabs I consumed the information and started thinking, "you know, that might be just what I'm after". There's a lot to be said about a site that just gives you exactly what you need without any other thoughts popping into your brain. However, that's not to say it can realistically stay the way it is. But I just thought it funny that I of all people would have that experience.
 21. Just a reminder there - Velvet did say the theory grades could be worth doing.
 22.
I do understand that perhaps that sharing a logo with the branded wicks may debatably devalue the german wicks in the eyes of more gear obsessed types as us, but hey ho, it'll shift more units I'm sure!
You know, I don't think that the devaluing problem would be with the gear-obsessed or bass heads. If the Rockbasses devalue the perception of the main Warwick brand, it'll be in the eyes of less interested/knowledgeable/experienced musicians who currently think of Warwick as only producing expensive, exotic, high-end growlers (can I say growlers? ) which is not the worst reputation to have if you're hoping to nab £1400+ of someone's beer money for a bass. Will they keep that reputation or will people start to think of them like many other manufacturers i.e. some of the instruments are great, some are pretty good. Edit: But then again, maybe by the time someone is ready to spend that kind of dosh on a bass, they'll understand the ins and outs and see the exotic/tone wood Warwicks in the light they are currently in.
 23.
Couln't they just put an 'R' on the headstock instead of the standard 'W'?
Maybe they're doing it on purpose - i.e. using the Warwick label to boost sales of Rockbasses at that competitive end of the market? For the money of a new Rockbass, there are a hell of a lot of options in terms of new basses and higher end stuff on the used market.
 24.
If I was going to buy a separates rig to replace my combo I would probably go for one of Alex's cabs
The Barefaced Compact seems like a really strong contender at the minute on the cab side - from everything I've read so far, they seem like little miracles. Thanks for all the amp head suggestions so far as well guys. I'm going to take another look at the Ashdowns, and check into the Line6s, Aguilars and Hartkes, all of which I know absolutely nothing about. Good job I'm not in a rush - this could take some time to settle. Although the more I talk about it all, the worse the GAS gets.
 25. Never owned or played anything made by Ibanez - but I quite like the simple elegance of the ART shape.
