It's a sh*tty Planet Waves Chordmaster thing with built in tuner and metronome. A is set to 440Hz.
-
Either I'm going mental, my tuner has already, or the rest of guitar playing internet has been for some time. Can someone check this out for me - if you're with your bass it should only take a sec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRYNYb30nxU Main riff - is supposed to be something like this in standard tuning
G|-----------------------------------------| D|-----------------------------------------| A|-----0-2-2--2-----2-2-0-0---0-2-4-0------| x3 E|--2-----------0-0---------4--------------|
Except... I start playing along to the YouTube clip and find I'm a semitone low. Shifting up and starting on the G sounds right to me... but the damn internet has me doubting. Can someone let me know if I have cloth ears or my tuner is f**ked.
I heard yo' mama came from Newcastle (under-lyme).
I've never been so insulted in all my life.
The Rigger is the best venue, but that's in Newcastle really.
If you mean Newcastle-under-Lyme then please qualify your comment. Don't want anyone confusing that place with the real Newcastle (God's county upon Tyne).
I thought we'd established that he didnt really want it for killing zing.....
Don't tar me with your decidedly grubby brush!
-
As a side note: Anne, bottle it and sell it. Some people spend ages trying to get the zing out of strings. You make millions (minus 10% pour moi of course).
Try spraying your strings with WD40 & wiping them down
Then do the same on yourself AM. Dirty dirty people.
so I got the previous rancid one out of the basket, put it back on and played in it again!
Minging. Edit: never mind your strings going off, I'm surprised you haven't disolved the glue holding your basses together.
I pray to god that next month something like this will appear or I'll kick myself for not buying a better amp in the first place LOL!
Hahahah. Well maybe it's fate - if you're meant to be together then maybe this bass will still be here next month. Hey it happened with my Vampyre - I couldn't buy it for a few months because of MOTs, bills etc. but luckily it was still for sale when I got the money.
Yeah, all the smart-arses who started stealing music ten years ago and swearing blind that it wouldn't have any effect can go shove it.
Even if that's true - it's the record companies that have created this mess by years and years overcharging. I remember when they brought in CDs - claiming if we invested in the CD player then the lower cost of producing CDs would result in cheaper albums. It didn't. Over the years prices went through the roof and helped persuade normal people that it was ok to steal music because to buy it was just crazy at the prices being charged. £17 for a fairly mainstream album!!! I remember paying that. Now in desperation they're operating by buying artists from smaller labels instead. Bottom feeders. Always have been, always will be.
Yup, matey, that's exactly what I mean
Wow. That could be one of the most useful posts I've ever read... if it works.

Isn't N.I.B famed as the first recorded instance of a wah pedal being used with a bass guitar? Or something.
-
And, when using some sort of slow-downer, don't forget to hook-up the record one octave - then, all you can actually hear is the bass, and it's much clearer
That's a new one on me. You slow-down the audio (assuming you're using a tool that slows down without affecting pitch) and then raise everything by an octave? And this let's you hear the bass better? Going to have to give this a whirl.
-
Have you got some software like Transcribe! to slow down the audio, frequency analysis and EQ? Beyond that, from the few bass transcriptions I've done, I generally have to start by figuring out the chords before I can really get my head around the bass notes. Sometimes I even have to transcribe the vocal melody to figure out the chords. But then I suck.
sit him down and ask him which way he'd prefer to be kicked out
Hahahaha. In reality, as soon as you ask for a private chat he's going to know something is up and will start mentally preparing. If you can get through it all without disrupting his mental process of this is bad but I can take it then it'll go better. It's like when your girlfriend tells you sit down as you need to talk. You know its either all over or she's pregnant. Think how bad it would be if she then started out by saying something like "I want to buy you that Vigier..." - your brain does a 180 and thinks hang on, this is great news! "Oh and I'm leaving you for your significantly uglier best mate"... you wouldn't know where you were.
Ask him whether he thinks the issues are solvable, does he want to solve them?
If they've decided to get rid of him then its past the time for this question. This is a discussion that should have been had before the decision to sack him was made.
-
Yup - basically reiterating bits of what's being said already. I've had to sack people from work in the past (not from bands) and it isn't always as bad as you would think it is. You have to do it one on one - don't do it over email, telephone etc - be a man about it. Don't get everyone involved because if a discussion errupts, a massive row will soon follow. One person stands a chance of controlling the conversation and making sure the job is done quickly and relatively painlessly. Be decisive. If you're sacking someone, be sure about it and don't let them humiliate themselves by pleading. If they make any moves in that direction then stop them - "Sorry, it's been decided". Don't tell him he's sh*t unless you want an argument - he will respond with his own insults. Before you sit down with him, make sure you have some answers to questions like "why", pre-phrased in a more appealing form. "We just don't think what you do is quite right for us anymore". Again, don't entertain responses like "But if you tell me what to do different then I can". Don't do it after a gig - he'll immediately get narked that you had him play etc. even though you knew he was on his way out. Don't let play the next gig if he asks. The reasons for this one are obvious. Splitting the band and reforming without him is one of the most feeble things I've ever heard.

Factory visit to Chris Celinder's workshop, Copenhagen
Eight replied to Kiwi's topic in Build Diaries
I really don't care if you want to consider it advertising, an article or a description of one man's experience - it was fascinating to read and thank you very much for posting it Kiwi. If you ever get invited to some other workshops, make sure you post some info on them too. -
Until you need to go and play in an Italian Orchestra (or any sort of band, group etc).
Ah, this is part of what I was originally wondering. You've found that Italians (or atleast some) do use these terms then? Freaks.

Congratulations. Brighter days ahead now you're a Warwick/Rockbass owner.

Phew. I like Soundslive. Long may they reign... Now if only they'd a) do something about the price of Schecters on their website and 2) not try to sell you things they don't have in stock and can't get (e.g. oh I dunno, the Schecter I was desperately trying to buy a few months ago!)
