1.
So do you want to know where we are with all this then????
Nope. Lost all interest now - it's dragged on too long... ... Ok go on then.
2. Christ almighty!??!! Does noone in that band remember what it's like to have to go through this? Even by proxy since I'm another one who really really really wants to hear the word that you got the gig.
3.
It doesn't even have to be as famous as that... maybe a bass that was used to record a particular song?
How about not even remotely famous? I still lay awake at night in agony from not being able to buy the Schecter Damien IV I tried to get before the Curbow and Vampyre. If only I'd spent the money before currency fluctuations and stock problems had such an effect on their price. (They're not worth the price being charged here now). I'm sure what I've got is better... but can't help feeling the Damien should have been mine. Edit: I just did a quick check. The Damien was about £290 when I first saw it back in January. Went up to £360 just as I was going to buy it (which put me off). Then to £420. And now its £550!?!?!
4. I'm getting a build up of GAS!!!!
5. I'd like to see some photos. Might be just what I need.
6.
Yeah, THIS time round, he was born in 1951, I think he must be on his 20th incarnation. (Cue, howling wolves in the background).
Funny then how "the Doctor" gets younger and more trendy every time he regenerates... and Norman er... doesn't.
7.
There is no 'more Doom', there is Doom, and there is not Doom.
That should be t-shirt or bumper sticker or something.
8. Cool. Cheers guys. A single Compact is what I'm after - but thought I'd better check how things worked when I read an amp spec which said minimum impedance 4ohm.
9. Sorry to ask this - because I know somewhere the information I need already exists... but I couldn't find/understand it. The Compact is an 8ohm cab right? If I buy a 300W amp with a minimum impedance of 4ohm - does that mean I have to have two Compacts (taking the impedance to 4ohm)? Or does it mean I can't use two 4ohm cabs (which would give 2ohm)? i.e. Is 8ohm higher than the 4ohm minimum, or is it lower? Cheers.

Our first BIG gig!

God, I'd be bricking it on such a big open stage with only the three of you.
11.
BUT one hell of a bassist!
True... ...I didn't realise he was dead though. Ok ok, that joke is running pretty close to bad taste. I admit it.
12. That's one scary looking dude.
13. Well... I've thought it over for the past two days... sucked in all the good advice given to me here... and decided not to go for it. Lol. But... this thread has really focused me and helped me decide that playing in a band (soon) is something I just have to do. So, as it would be financially very irresponsible for me to just run out right now and buy the amp equipment I need, I decided to make acquiring these my number one priority and then force myself in for the next half-decent band opportunity that comes along. No excuses, no more thinking. Just going to get the tools I need for the job and give it a shot. Thanks guys. You have all been great in helping me think this whole bass and band thing through.
14. Easy - See You Again, Miley Cyrus Fun - Perfect Strangers, Deep Purple Intermediate - Living On A Prayer, Bon Jovi Hard - Run To The Hills, Iron Maiden (that "galloping" drives me bonkers some days) Insane - er.. The Real Me, The Who (only tried to play it once - after 30mins I got past bar 1 and gave up) Edit: Or more recently for insane - Thunderhorse, Deathklok. It's that god damn galloping rhythm again except a hundred times faster. Arrrgggh!!!
15. Maybe you're as grubby as Anne-Marie? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49587&hl=
16. Sounds like you have it sorted Tim. Maybe growing up isn't so bad after all.
17.
Dean Martin.
Win. Anyway... I don't quite get the bit of wood/joint thing at the bottom of the neck. Looks ugly (in my very subjective opinion) and I've seen a few other makers do that recently... which puzzles me. Edit: as in I've seen it recently, not that they've done it recently. Although they do. But they obviously did it non-recently as well. Glad to clear that up.
18. Changed my mind - I don't think it's an Edge - top horn doesn't seem to curl enough.
19. Looks like a Dean Edge (PJ?) to me. But those fret inlays are kinda unusual.
20.
You're worried at 30!!!!
It might sound daft - but turning thirty has been a big deal for me. Not coped that well with it really. Somehow everything seems a bit more urgent now... a feeling not helped by another member of family dropping dead earlier this year I guess.
21.
Always have a flask of coffee and a supply of biccies or chocolate stashed behind the amp (that's why we use big amps )
So that brown stain when you leave the stage is actually melted chocolate and spilt coffee then?
22.
I wish I'd done it when I was younger, my biggest regret in life.
Yeah me too. I guess that's part of the reason why bits of me are screaming to take a crack at something soon. I'm thirty (my best days are behind me) and I've always played an instrument, always listened to music but never been in a band. I don't want to die with that hanging over me. Edit: @ Bilbo. For jazz, you wouldn't.
23. Haven't made one yet; but when I do I plan to leave all my bass gear (and related books etc.) to my adopted niece. My best mate is a guitarist and it would amuse me no end to look down (or up) and see his daughter grow up to be a bassist instead.
24.
I might have been practicing with lessons for about 6 months before I started to play with other musicians.
That made me think - I should maybe ask my teacher what she thinks about the idea. She probably knows my abilities and playing better than I do and doesn't tend to blow smoke up my arse. Edit: fat fingers impacting on my spelling.
