1. That is pretty... but I like these more...
2.
I wonder how much of the 'woolly Ashdown' moans are related to specific speaker cabs? Unless an amp is complete rubbish (which I know Ashdown amps are far from being!) it should be pretty easy to EQ out wooliness.
Well I'm pretty happy with my MAG300 running into one of your Compacts. Anyway... I played on Voodoobassman's Ashdown combo at the NE bass bash last year and I liked it - enough to snap up a cheap MAG head on here when I needed an amp. Maybe they're not the best amps in the world; but just because there's something better out there doesn't make them crap. If you read enough posts on this forum then you'd be forgiven for thinking that there's not a single bass, amp or cab that's any good since there's always someone who has some mud to sling (which is fair enough, it's all subjective anyway).
3. Should've gone on Dragon's Den. I like it.
4. Just wanted to point out that the double basses used in rockabilly and psychobilly music are of course, fretless.
5. Yup - although not brilliantly anymore. I try to motivate myself to do more sight reading practice, but the truth is I've other things I'd rather be doing. I'd say I use notation more when I'm writing down something I've transcribed/composed myself.
6. Arch Enemy doesn't seem too bad to me.
7. "Received"? Lol. Lots of good orchestral plugins but the EastWest stuff is possibly the best. IK Sampletank is not a bad collection of instruments and would cover most things (including orchestral instruments). Freezing the tracks in Live will free up some CPU cycles. Failing that, get a better PC or mix what you've got so far as best you can, export it as a single Mp3 and take that into one track on a new Live project (would be annoying though as you'd now have two project files you'd have to maintain/edit).
8. I've been thinking about getting some (just for myself - since I lose at least three picks a week) for ages now... but I can't think of anything to get printed on the damn things.
9. Damn. I thought all my GAS had been cured by buying a cab... Wonder where I can lay my hands on £700.
10.
nice one Eight!
Hope it helped. Nice track btw - I felt markedly more chilled out after listening to it.
11. Just got a midi beep thing to go with here but because I like quizes I'm going with a simple cycle of Bmin Gmin Gmin Bmin for most of the song. Edit: With lots of A as a passing note. Edit: And maybe Emin Gmin on that bit at the end of a section.
12.
The confusion here is that the first post is written out as a sort of Tab. G(open) = G, D2 = E, A3 = C, E3 = G.
Ah... I see. Weird. Lol.
13. G D A E... er.. G6/9 maybe a Emin11b5 without the Bb. I have no idea where my brain was going with that one...
14.
It should have had one with it - USB to a very small connector - not sure what it is called!
Guessing here, but it's not a micro usb connector is it? (Which would be typical) You'd be able to get one of those cables from any computer shop or mobile phone emporium.
15. Almost tempted to buy a Bongo just so I could enjoy a dirty weekend with a Vigier.
16.
Maybe you should buy a Status (headless obviously)
LOL. Good thinking.
17.
Buy a Warwick. I just inadvertently smashed (and I do mean smashed) the chandelier with the headstock of the Vampyre. Not so much as a scratch in the paintwork.
Here we go again... I just whacked the headstock off the corner of a wall in a door way. Looked at the poor thing and saw some horrible white marks which I could only assume were paint chips down to the wood... except they wiped off... turns out I've taken a good chunk out of the wall and once again the bass has come away from the battle unharmed and completely unblemished. Thank f*ck! All hail German build quality.
18. Outstanding! Maybe the best posted link I've seen all year.
19.
MMM, I had my neighbours round the other day, and not in a good way. It appears the bass is louder than it used to be.....
Hahaha. I'm hoping to avoid that. Never met next door, but they've never given me any reason to complain about them (apart from the occassional whining dog) and I've no real desire to be a pain.
20.
Yes, dedicated Speakon, don't try to force a 1/4" plug in!
Cool - cheers Alex. Better go shopping.
21. I got my Compact. Impressive looking thing and amazingly light. I know everyone said it was (one of the main reasons I chose it) but my god when you actually get hold of it, it feels like nothing. Now, before I do anything stupid, that's a dedicated Speakon jack on the back right? Not one of those combination speakon/1/4" thingies?
22.
EDIT - might be worth giving them a ring first to check if the bass is in stock, as the website is sometimes slightly behind actual stock levels.
A huge +1... er... how big can I make a +1? +1 I'm beginning to wonder if they stock anything at all - despite what the web site says.
23. M Audio have a very good rep amongst home producers etc. I have one of their audio interface/controller keyboards and a 1x1 midi interface from them. Cheap, but never miss a beat.
24. A chap I know was just raving about this app the other day. He uses it without the cable (onboard mic) and said it worked great.
25.

Is that your friend? Anyway, I think you should do the decent thing and own up. Tell her you'll take it to get repaired if she wants but ask her if there's something else she'd like instead? She might like the idea of a change. I'd be livid if someone broke my property and didn't say anything.
