I suppose the Amplug would be OK for a stop-gap, but if you were going to use it frequently in future, I'd definitely give it a miss.
Hmm... well, as much as I'm not after anything amazing, I'd still resent handing over beer tokens for something if its absolutely pish.
If it arrives before Christmas, you're welcome to borrow (or even make an offer for) the Pandora!
That's mighty kind. I must admit, I did look at the Pandoras but couldn't quite make my mind up over them. Seemed kinda cool.
FWIW, I bought an Amplug and it sounded rotten..
Ack. Like completely useless rotten or just not-something-you'd-really-want-to-use-very-often rotten?
I think that names are necessary if they somehow derive from the equipment's name.
Don't know if "necessary" is quite right... but the only inanimate object I ever named came from a similar vein. Ended up referring once to my Vampyre as Vanessa. Just thinking of Vanessa Warwick... the old Headbanger's Ball presenter on MTV. Unfortunately the name stuck... but I try not to use it around people. On the other hand, I used to spend a lot of time setting up servers which need network names and always found it so boring to use a naming scheme like apps002... so coming up with cool names was always the highlight of my job.
Gabriella Cilmi, Pixie Lott and Kiera Knightley (sloppy seconds?), a four poster bed, a months hotel stay and a Mars bar... battered
I don't think I want to know what the mars bar is for. Although if your lass is reading this then my guess is christmas will bring you that bar... unbattered... wrapped in divorce papers.

Dear Santa, I have been a [s]very good boy[/s]... been a [s]good boy[/s]... this year... ... Dear Santa, I have been a boy this year, can I have... An Esh Stinger II A Jalba (last years model without baby would be ideal) And a 1940s Wolsey (without the cop)

I started doing a lot of exercises that encourage that and find that when playing I instinctively do it when it feels right (does seem to help a bit with speed, stamina and getting nice legato) but it's not something I actively think about. Might as well keep doing the exercises and see what happens naturally.
Vox AmPlug? About £35 to £40. Sounds great too, you'll always wanna use it for practice. I don't use my rigs at home anymore, I just use that little gaget.
Oh. I never realised they had an aux in - and i think one of my local shops sells them. Great idea, cheers.

Cool - thanks for the tips Jack. I have endless amounts of toys in my [s]dining room[/s] studio, so don't really need anything fancy and probably won't use it much after christmas... But you're right in one respect, I'll find some way to justify the purchase.

I have to go away for a few days over christmas, and decided to take a bass with me. What I'd like to find, is a headphone amp with an auxiliary input so I can hear my bass and a track from my netbook in the same cans. Would have to be cheap though... I'll never use it after this trip. Any ideas? Cheers.

NORTH EAST BASS BASH - NOVEMBER 2009 - PICS & VIDEO ADDED!
Eight replied to wateroftyne's topic in Events
So disappointed that I couldn't make it in the end. Was out celebrating last night and the absolute truth is I just had one (or five) beers too many, stayed up too late and was sick as a dog until about an hour ago. Sorry to hear about the incident WoT. Hope it works out ok. What did everyone think of the Hellborg pre-amp? -
I'm bringing TWO Barefaced Compacts
LOL. Does that mean I can save myself the effort of bringing mine? Happy to bring it if people want, but otherwise I might as well save myself a little running around on Sunday morning. -
have you seen the warwick "vampyre sn" or "vampyre dark loard" ? thay come set up tuned B-E-A-D an F#-B-E-A with stupidly heavy gauge strings, bit extreem but worth a look
I think only the Dark Lord comes like that (could be very wrong though), but the Vampyre SN (and probably the NT) does go low quite nicely in my opinion. There's the Schecter Stiletto Sub too which comes setup for BEAD. Don't know much about it though.

Welcome. You've come to the right place - I joined up a few days after buying my first bass guitar and this place has really contributed alot to my learning.
If you listen closely to most of them tunes they are genius!!
In total agreement with you there. I've really developed a love of Motown recently. The more I've looked at Jamerson's work, and the overall way those songs are done, the more I realise how brilliant they actually were. Of course this isn't news to this forum, but it is news to me since I never quite 'got' Motown before. I still don't quite get the super-tech players but maybe that'll come too.
James Jamerson- for once in my life-Stevie -heard it through the grapevine ( Gladys Knight version ) + 1000s more!!
Hahaha, I started thinking about Jamerson and hit the same problem - too many great lines.
-
Looks like a good list - going to have to check out the songs I don't know. Sorry but I really don't think Under Pressure is the best bassline ever - far from it. It's cool but there are a lot better in my opinion.

I bought this http://www.amazon.com/Bass-Fitness-Exercis...s/dp/0793502489 - and whilst I don't know what everyone else thinks about it, it's been working out for me. -
Going to the USA and bringing a bass - bit of a dilemma!
I heard a story on another board that stringed instruments were being challenged because "you could remove the strings and use them to throttle someone".
Soon you won't even be able to wear shoes - could easily hijack a plane with your shoelaces. -
Weird Al Yankovic - The Night Santa Went Crazy ???

The Temptations - Ain't Too Proud To Beg Lovin' my Motown right now and this is such a good fun track with an easy (but groovey) bassline.
I love how it's a Jazz on the front cover when Jamerson was using his P Bass for all of those tracks.
Lol. You don't miss a thing. Cheers Sdgrsr, I'll check that one out as well.
Courtesy of Hans Peter Wilfer (Warwick owner... as in the company, not just owner of one of their basses) and Florin the Moderator over on the Warwick forum; there'll be an opportunity for anyone interested in trying out a Warwick Hellborg Preamp, to do so!
Coooooooool. You're a star for sorting that out mate. -
It was listed as in stock on Amazon.co.uk so I've put my order in. Looks to be belting; can't wait for it to arrive. Cheers guys.
Great book, if you can pick up an old one, i have the cd version if you need a copy.....
I'll try and buy it - I know James himself isn't going to get any of the money but I'd feel bad stealing this one without at least trying to be honest first. But I might give you a shout if I draw a blank, if that's ok? Thank you very much mate.
