  1. It's hard enough to get a guitarist to consider playing something other than their favourite guitar (between the band we own a variety of guitars; Hamer DC, Explorer, Les Paul etc), to add to the look... a Penta-neck is a step too far.
  2. They have a firm fan base that love them... not the broadest/biggest fan base but it is dedicated. Just hoping we can find venues prepared to take the chance.
  3. Many years in the forming but finally my Cheap Trick tribute is up and running. At the moment all gigs are in the NE but if anyone has contacts for further afield (or double headers with compatible tributes) and would like to see us, please give me a shout.
  4. For £50 I'm going with the closed back AKG K92. Light weight, 40mm drivers, 16Hz - 22kHz (pinch of salt) and 32 Ohms, 113 dB SPL/V
  5. Luckily I'm not needing to worry about their ability to be a set of pro/reference headphones, it's just for home use to listen to music and or Zoom type stuff. I'll just be sure to avoid anything in excess of 250. Many thanks folks.
  6. Sorry for the thread resurrection but... what would the ideal ohmage be for headphones that will be used for 'mixed' application; laptop, PC, hifi system? Some of these come in 32/250/600. I'm looking to get a set as it will be easier than plugging in my KZ buds (+ Mrs Hunt can use them on her home office PC) and I'm not looking at top end, more budget headphones in the £50 range such as AKG K52/92.
  7. I've often been surprised when I've looked at the weight of various drivers. Some 'neo' drivers are/were heavier than non-neo units; added to which the actual weight saving between some better spec units is minimal in the gross weight of drivers + cab. I get that better spec drivers would be beneficial but if the weight isn't being shed, will that be an issue later on (the resale of a cab with good drivers in is rarely recouped).
  8. Hadaway an shyte!
  9. So you are 69 and asking about the nightlife... you'll not be frequenting the Bigg Market so you'll be safe enough! As for the cold... we are only a couple of 100 miles North of that there Landan Taan, so hardly the Arctic Circle. We sold our house to a couple who moved lock/stock from Portsmouth and they said they can't believe they didn't do it sooner, never regretted one minute of it by all accounts.
  10. Cullerfornia if you are local.
  11. Newcastle/North expensive... you're having a larf surely? If you want to live in certain areas around the outskirts/suburbs of Newcastle you can pay top dollar for property or head out to Darras Hall and join the millionaire football elite brigade (still several million cheaper than the South) but there are loads of nice areas with housing that is 100's of thousands cheaper than comparable homes elsewhere! Newcastle - 7 miles from the coast and 20 miles from areas of coastal outstanding beauty. 10 miles to 'open' countryside. 50 miles from the countries only dark skies location, Scottish borders, Cheviot hills... blah blah blah Just don't say you're a Mackem! @LukeFRC visited recently and he hated it... maybe.
  12. Find a new tech! Most round here offer a free diagnosis (and they are good) but even the guy here who charges £30 to look, knocks that off the price if you go ahead with the job. The send return thing is not uncommon when it is never used.
  13. Bodged Aria MAB... decimal point may be in the wrong place!
  14. Things might be getting lost in translation. This whole thread is about the bass player from Cheap Trick who exclusively uses a 12 string bass which is tuned EADG only but has pairs of sympathetic strings tuned the same and it is considered a BASS because it is not an extended range instrument. You seem to be discussing with yourself an alternative instrument, strung and tuned very different.
  15. You are talking about a different form of 12 string bass from the one being discussed and used by Tom Petersson. His bass is strung; Eee Aaa Ddd Ggg with the lower case letters/strings being the same gauge.
  16. I'd like to have tried this but it's a 10 hr round trip and for something of this value and specifics I would need to have hands on. GLWTS
  17. Is a 12 string guitar still just a guitar, all be it a bit jangly? 8 & 12 string basses are no different, it isn't like we are talking 8 & 12 string extended range instruments where every string is tuned to a 4th of the preceding string.
  18. You'd struggle to justify the original £258.22 price tag!
  19. A bit of extra mids or top end on your amp; bass through an octave pedal (ideally adding octaves up NOT down) and a chorus pedal... possibly a little bit of distortion from a pedal. You have the beginnings of a sound approximating Tom's tone. He uses all sorts of splitters and signals running through guitar and bass amps (Orange valve/tube amps) but you start to go down a special kind of rabbit hole if you chase that rabbit.
  20. I'd not buy new again but I'd certainly push the boat out past £2k if it was something I really wanted... as of today the only bass that could be would be a 12 string bass!
  21. Dear me, as easy as that! I thought it was some strange bitsa.
  22. Watching the video again, I actually think the pup is a split jobbie rather than a J.
  23. Cheap Trick performed at Reading in 79 and Tom played this bass but I wondered if anyone knew what model it was? It is vaguely J shaped, has a single pup and a J style bell plate but it is a puzzle. Sorry for that bad pic but it was the best capture from some live youtube footage.
  24. ...and that is a 'used' 2nd hand bass!
  25. I have the album that ITM is on but the rest is hardly memorable. However back in the day, I did enjoy covering that track.
