What is the difference between a Sterling and a ray?
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...erling+stingray The search facility is your friend.
Oh how I envy you youngsters when it comes to buying a bass from your birth year - being born in '59 really pushes the price up of anything I might like
Ditto. Maybe this should be an investment lesson for all of the 'young uns', buy your 80's and 90's basses now... if only I'd picked up my '63 when they were sensible money!
Michael Manring represents everything I love about music. Challenging stucture and composition, pushing his instrument to the edge of its' capabilities and beyond, a burning desire to educate his audience, and good hair.
Agreed... hair! I do totally agree but wouldn't have tagged you as a MM fan oddly enough (no slight in any way shape or form intended ). Hopefully catch you later or if not I'll make time next week and call by yours. Oh and apologies for the hijack, I'll keep banter to PMs in future!
Is that Laurence Archer, as in Wild Horses? I loved his band Stampede in the Eighties -- they were great but never seemed to get anywhere.
Stampede... that's a blast from the past, think I still have a 12" single of theirs somewhere. UFO played a local bike rally a couple years ago and by all accounts Pete was so out of it he had to be pointed in the direction of the stage and pushed... 'allegedly'! Wasn't in a great way but whether that was health or self inflicted I have no idea. He wasn't the greatest influence on me as a bassist but he did have that iconic pose with the T'bird that 'almost' had me buying a Gibson.
Oh, hell aye.. It's clear that the man was nasty beyond belief. Part of the reason it's such a great book...! Back on Bruce Palmer, for a vague idea of how he sounded in a more modern environment, find Neil Young's Berlin DVD, recorded on the Trans tour. Bruce is in the band... he looks like a tubby, sinister uncle, but his playing and tone are fantastic. He's playing one of them there Kramer aluminium basses. It's mentioned in Shakey, I think.
<Hijack apology> WTF is going on with you having Michael Manring as an avatar? I couldn't think of a more [s]obscure[/s] [s] inappropriate [/s] [s]oxymoronic[/s] ODD avatar for you! Unless (and I apologise if I am correct) Mr Manring who was in Dads Army has just passed away and this is an oblique tip of the hat to him? BTW passing by yours later so time permitting may get the chance for that cuppa.

Yay! Poll time. How many basses do you own?
Damn, I'm up to 14 (including three incoming) - how did that happen?
What happened to 'sell, sell, sell'! -
Been looking at these recently... there is a big price difference between the GRAMMA (£40) and the Great GRAMMA (£80) - is it essential that the pad is bigger than the cabinet or would it still work if the can overhangs the pad by an inch or so either side?
So long as the cab is 'balanced' OK on the smaller pad then there should be absolutely no reason not to do that, the effect will be the same!

I take it you've looked here ( http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=466 ) for the cabs, which imho are the main area to focus on if you are looking for lightweight. I'll elaborate on that as I've been down your route and despite having owned and/or road tested a few of the high end 'lightweight' digi/switching amps (inc having owned the SA450 and LMK Markbass amps) I've come back to a traditional amp (Thunderfunk). When you consider that your average non-digi/switching amp might be 15kg (excluding valve amps) or so that is still going to be lighter than your lightest cab, by definition a manageable weight. So unless you need a micro-weight amp to fit in a gigbag, I wouldn't get hung up on the weight of the amp; focus on the cabs... oh and despite having owned EBS and Tech Soundsystem Neo cabs I went full circle back to trad ferro magnet Aguilar DB112 cabs!

Distinct lack of info!

I'd have (getting) one of those just to annoy the guitarists I play with!

Postage on this cab is a bit over the top
warwickhunt replied to molan's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
As Barrie says, Interparcel have a next day delivery service starting from £8 which will take a cab or combo under 25kg (or was it 40kg?) so long as you don't mind taking a gamble on it not getting damaged... unless it's a cheapie combo/cab in which case you have nothing to lose! There services go up and £15 gets you £150 insurance but as noted the service goes up to about £40-£50 if you are talking insurance up to £1000+ Basses fit in with their size restriction but ensure the service that you select (you get the choice of a few inc UPS TNT etc) doesn't exclude musical instruments. Loads of info on a 'stickie' elsewhere. -

I generally prefer 10.00am on a Sunday but often the lads prefer 3 - 4pm on a Sunday and on the subject of houses left empty; don't worry the dogs won't bite you when you come in... but they'll rip your arm out of the cufking socket on the way out! Rehearsals are always a laugh for us so it isn't a chore when we do have to get together but I'd not be impressed if anyone were to suggest a Friday or a Saturday evening (assuming we aren't gigging).
What are these things like for balance? Will it be safe to balance quite a heavy rack on a 610 cab (12" deep)??
The larger platform would be fine. I used to put my 6x10 on it and they are a solid platform regardless of the foam (which is quite firm).
How about trasportation issues? Is it flexible enough to hook into your baggage when flying?
If you are talking about the Gramma Pad, they are a solid board mounted on foam, so no they will not fold or flex.

If Haltwhistle isn't too much of a hike, I can recommend Dave Wilson. www.dwilsonguitars.com

BTW Thats a lovely bass so good luck and welcome to the site.
Have I missed something? The OP joined over 2 years ago!

I was petrified it would leech the solid bottom end away from my DB112's... but it doesn't!

So did someone snipe this bass or can we expect to see it appear for sale on BC some time soon?
... might be, John, although the kids have outgrown the delights of Alnwick Castle (... saving us a fortune in the process, thank goodness!). I'll PM/call if we're heading into Northumberland (Belsay's a possible) at all. The USA Fly's probably a perfect weight for you, but this one's 9lb+ ...
Shame the spalted isn't the same as the USA... I can always bide my time till the USA comes around! -
I'd be concerned about ebay not refunding the postage though.
As would I but you'd be amazed how often ebay/paypal favour the buyer... especially if they thought they could stamp on the postage overcharging, which diddles eBay out of fees. Saying all of that, the guy is just trying to get a decent price for his items whilst circumventing the eBay fees... can't blame him for the latter part of that.
