Don't imagine for one minute that just because you've spent some money upgrading/improving your bass that anyone else is going to offer you more money for doing so! I'm not singling out this bass for any other reason than it is a perfect example... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Epiphone-Thunderbird...=item4154bcc0a1 The seller has spent £200 'improving' the bass and wants £75 more than the cost of a new bass. If you break down his improvement costs into what others might also see as an improvement then he has basically added a case! * Very nice Epiphone T-Bird flight-case included (cost £70) - essential as nothing else will fit! --- Agreed the case is handy... worth about £25-£0 used * High quality thick leather strap (£30) --- I'm sure that most of us have our own so this is of no genuine value * Quality strap locks fitted (£15) --- Some people like them; some don't, hence little or no value * Additional strap button fitted to neck heel to cure the infamous T-Bird neck dive --- Hmmm so it has had an extra hole drilled/screwed into it that the new owner may well not appreciate... potentially devaluing the bass * Brand new set of Thomastik Infeld flatwound strings (cost £35) --- Nice enough but about 75% of buyers will likely use roundwounds so these will be binned. * Full pro set-up by Guitar Works in Reading (cost £50) --- Hmmm set up to the original owners liking but I bet it wouldn't be to my liking and I can do my own thanks. As I say I'm not trying to diss this sale but the £200 the seller spent is virtually valueless other than the cost of a used case. The moral; don't assume that improvements will improve the value of your bass.

Why Do You Prefer a Jazz Over a Precision?
warwickhunt replied to Count Bassie's topic in Bass Guitars
I much prefer a Precision! Mine is dead lightweight, has the skinniest neck and is never dull and thuddy... Oh and did I mention it was a thru-neck and is active! OK I'm extracting the urine but it begs the question 'What defines something as a 'Precision' bass'? Does it have to be by Fender? Is it compulsory to be passive? Have the name Precision written on it? Is it the outline shape that makes it a Precision or the pup mounted on that body? Is it still a Precision if someone makes it in the classic P bass shape with the appropriate pup but makes it neck-thru? Answers on the back of a postage stamp. -
If you're planning on replacing the speaker then I'd still put an 8 ohm one in, just get a higher sensitivity driver & it will still leave you the opton of adding an ext cab in the future if needed. The extra watts put to one 4 ohm driver will be barely noticable.
Good point!
Yes John but there are Warwicks and then, there are Warwicks. I don't ever recall you owning the former.

I'm regularly shocked at how used prices for the likes of Warwick and Shuker fall apart like a leper in a wind tunnel.
Not such a problem if all you do is buy them and never sell one!
-
I assume you are talking about a combo with a single internal driver that is 8ohm, if so you really only have 2 choices as a dummy load would be pointless; 1) A second 8ohm cab 2) Replacement speaker rated at 4ohms (200/300/400/500w wouldn't worry me personally but for your peace of mind the higher the better) but to ensure you retain a similar tone you'd need to research that the new driver was correctly spec'd for the size of the box... saying that, just chucking in a decent 4 ohm driver has 'the potential' to work equally well or better!

Refinish my Modulus...what would be your bag...
warwickhunt replied to bubinga5's topic in Bass Guitars
It'll cost you hundreds to get a good job done (and it'd be a crime to cut corners on a bass like that) and you will NEVER increase the value of the bass with a refinish... if anything it is a guaranteed value dropper! So you are looking at spending several hundred pounds to change what is already a perfectly good colour and in the process you may well devalue the bass by as much as it costs to have refinished; it's a no-brainer for me that it should stay as is. Oh and I speak from experience. Having had several basses refinished to a spec/colour I like to find that I was never 100% happy with the bass and it was nowt to do with the colour. -
i think a lot of people would recognise the white rabbit bassline, its been used quite a lot (sopranos, alice in wonderland, fear and loathing in las vegas)
Yep, that one is lost on me. Even having listened to the track I'd be at a loss to identify it if someone played it to me the next day! -
In the section of The Chain that is most commonly recognised, the bass line operates as a melody line and not as a bass line as such even though it's played in the bass register.
Now you're being silly! It is a line/lick/riff played on the bass so by my definition it is a bassline; come on now, to say that it doesn't count because it is a 'melody line' is being a bit pedantic with the definition of bassline. -

Think I'll go back and have a listen to one or two of these though. -
£70-£80 gets you a blank that you can have finished any way you like. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CH-GUITARS/Bodies...d=p4634.c0.m322

Just been in Soundslive shop Newcastle today and they have a very nice Roadworn P bass in Salmon pink/Fiesta red for £679. Not sure if it's a massive saving but if you're in the market for a new one (is there such a thing for a RW bass?) then it plays very nicely, neck is a bit chunky but I had no issue with it and I normally play basses with skinny necks. Acoustically it felt like a nice bass and seemed well put together even if the action could have been dropped a bit (normal shop procedure not to set them up too low). Just sayin' and I'm in no way affiliated with Soundslive.

They played a theatre near me recently and I was severely tempted to go along... till I realised the ticket price was £17! Not blaming the band/bassist (if he is indeed a BCer) but £17 for a tribute band seemed a bit steep or am I out of touch with ticket prices and/or how good this band are?
No because the neck on a MM jazz is bound! Also I'd put money on those inlays being stickers. They just don't look quite right.
Yep, gotcha! It just looks a semi-convincing headstock but agreed that the inlays look a bit 'flat' and no binding!
-
Is it the correct headstock (ie neck) but with a refinished body? Just looks to me (not that I've seen that many MM Jazz basses) that the headstock decals and MM sig look about right!

warwickhunt replied to geofio's topic in General Discussion
As I see it; the right seller, the right item, the right price with the right buyer looking = sale... simples! If any of the above are missing from the OPers sale thread then you get no sale! Heaven knows I'm sitting with cash burning a hole in my pocket for the right bass (MM/EB Sterling in sunburst in case you were wondering) but unfortunately a Schecter isn't going to float my boat. Take a chill pill and stop shouting. -
Hi, I've just bought a Sterling so If you still have the case I'd love it, how much would you want, including 2nd class postage to London?? Cheers
You + 2 other interested parties have PM'd me in the space of 30mins... lots of people buying Sterlings without cases it would seem. Fairest if I deal with this in the order the messages/postings arrived... unless someone wants to sell me their Sterling instead!

Something niggling away in my memory banks about this one! Safe to say a truss rod costs next to nowt (even if you get one from Warwick), which begs the question why hasn't one of the previous owners of this bass had it repaired... especially as it is so easy to do! Thinking about it, I'm sure that one of the owners of this bass asked questions about the truss rod over on the Warwick forum and if they haven't had it fixed then safe to say it's stuck and may well need the fingerboard off (or a replacement neck).
im wondering Marks views on (for example) half way through payments, someone gets made redundant etc..?
You have made an agreement to pay the money, end of and tough titty! I'm sure Mark is a thoroughly nice guy but he is a businessman; you bought the item you owe the money, you don't pay the money you get taken to court... simples! There will no doubt be payment protection plans/schemes available but they don't come free.
