A seamless transaction with Mark, top fella. I'd voiced interest in his Poyple SSI and true to his word he contacted me when it was up for sale and a deal was struck. Nice efficient prompt delivery and excellent comms.

PAT Testing. Why pay a certified professional?
warwickhunt replied to coffee_king's topic in Repairs and Technical
True, but if your client is of the type that demands to see evidence of PAT testing alongside PLI, then you won't get the gig. You also leave yourself vulnerable to be held liable if your equipment causes damage or injury that PAT testing may have revealed possible at a venue.
However, playing Devil's Advocate... it is a Ctach 22 situation because even if your gear is PAT tested professionally and it causes damage or injury, you have no come back on the tester nor can you hold them liable, as the 'pass' is only valid on the day that it was done. A friend does PAT testing and the company he works for are not liable for any come back if anything happens post test; the test just checks that it is OK 'then', you may well tinker or break something moments after the test hence they are not liable (and that is their get out clause). I'm not saying it is an excuse to not PAT test (especially if you want club/corporate work) but theoretically (though bookers/organisers might not see it that way because it is all about doting the i and crossing the t), if you have the equipment and a basic instruction in PAT testing then your equipment is 'tested' whether you are qualified or not. -

Yep, I've tried logging in several times without realising there may be a problem!

Barefaced Midget, Aguilar DB112, Berg HD/CN112....
warwickhunt replied to aj5string's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think players who don't get on with Barefaced are those who are used to cabinets colouring their sound.
This ^ and it equates to me! I didn't realise that I actually liked a coloured/biased sound until I tried a whole bunch of cabs inc' BF and came to the conclusion that what I have liked about some cabs is 'probably' the way they influence what I want to hear coming out of the cab. The sound I want to hear (and I'm not talking distorted 'mush') isn't generally achievable with BF and most Neo loaded cabs, hence I have gone for ceramic loaded cabs, most recently Aguilar DBs. Ironically I presently use a Neo loaded Berg AE2x12 for it's portability and 'one-cab' solution BUT I have needed to EQ my amp quite a bit to get close to the sound I want, which I have never had to do with the Aggies and even then I am only 95% happy with my present tone over my previous pair of ceramic 1x12's. -
I have been through a similar thought process to the OP but the killer for me is that chuffin great big horrible flat slab of wood that they call a Jazz body! I seriously can not get used to that big lump of wood over the lovely diminutive comfort that is a Streamer body. I own a SSII (up for sale actually) and I can categorically say that it can NOT be made to sound like a Jazz even with the preamp bypassed (mine is an 87 and you don't have the push/pull option which came in during very early 90's but there is no exact date/science with Warwick), which I have had on previous SSII basses. If you want the Jazz sound you need to buy a Jazz... unfortunately!

Even the best luthiers have their off-days...
The issues with the instrument are a moot point because of the ambigous nature of the understanding between the buyer and Jimmy Coppollo . The buyer knew the bass was compromised , he just wasn't expecting it to be that compromised . As I have already tried to highlight , we only know what the buyer is telling us . We don't know what he he may be omitting from his account . There is great scope for subjectivity in his version of events . The unproven accusation is that Jimmy Coppollo was knowingly dishonest and unscrupulous in his dealings with the customer . It's quite possible that there was in fact a genuine misunderstanding or faliure in communication between the two parties . Regarding JC's reaction , in hindsight he could have managed things better in that respect , but like I just said , public relations are not neccesarilly his forte , and he was most likely feeling a bit upset by that point . He's only human , after all . As far as I am aware , there has been no chorus of other disgruntled AC customers chiming in with similar experiences , so maybe this incident is a one -off abberation .
How can the the issues with the bass be a moot point? Surely the issues with the bass are ALL that matters! Regardless of what I feel about the buyer/seller, the situation as it 'appears' on TB or of AC basses in general, the 'fact' is that the bass is a poor specimen of an instrument regardless of builder or price point and that isn't subjective. Any way, I'm sure like many I have reached my own conclusions based upon what I have seen, read and debated and I'll leave this be for now. -
SOLD! Sadowsky MV4-HPJ (Hybrid PJ) Natural body, Maple board
warwickhunt replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Basses For Sale
Tbh, I think you'd be hard pushed to get a metro under 4kg. They tend to be a bit heavier than their USA counterparts.
Agreed. Just a personal observation and I'm not linked to the seller in any way but I've owned a couple of USA Sadowskys and Metro basses and the Metros though NOT boat anchors have all been significantly heavier than the USA basses (certainly over 4kg but not over 5kg). -
Jimmy is an expert at building basses , not at public relations and making statements about unproven accusations .
You may have overlooked one or two other person's observations but to a few people it is about the multiplicity of the sad scenario; the quality of the instrument sold as well as his response on TB! Aside from anyone's personal stance on JC, as far as I am aware there were no 'unproven accusations'... or did I miss something? -

Can you (would you) unbolt the neck from the body? If so you can easily slash the carriage costs, length of package being the killer when costing to the USA.
Unless I'm much mistaken, won't eBay have problems with the seller stating he won't accept Paypal?
Yes. Regardless of whether he wants collection only, any seller has to accept paypal as a valid form of payment. You'd have to be a twazzer to pay by paypal and then go and collect but it has to be an option open to the buyer.
The others are far bigger, far heavier and do not sound as good (to my ears).
...there in lies the rub! Many (inc' me) have tried other brands inc BF and come to the conclusion that X, Y or Z brand sounds better regardless of which is bigger/heavier/lighter/prettier/uglier. 'One man's meat...'

Your very welcome to use your own head too.
I'll have the Berg AE212 as well which is 'similar' to the CN212.

What bass would serve best tonally as backup to acoustic guitar?
warwickhunt replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
Aria Sinsonidia - full scale bass, piezo sits nicely with acoustic type instruments and it fits away nicely so isn't a burden to transport/have on stage with multiple instruments. -
I see this thread is heading the way of so many others. Some people just seem to want to see the worst in every situation and appear to want to revel in negative events. I think it's pretty obvious to everyone that there was an issue with an instrument and it was, not particularly amicably, resolved between the seller and buyer. No-one will ever know the exact sequence of events with any level of accuracy other than those two parties. Continuing to throw mud at either of them does no-one any favours and appears to be breeding ill-feeling and unnecessarily argumentative comments. I find myself spending less and less time here these days Maybe I'll spend the day playing a lovely Alleva Coppolo bass instead. . .
Oddly all I see is folk discussing an event! It happens all day, every day in our daily lives; we chat with friends/colleagues and discuss the weather, politics, etc. In fact I've spent time this morning chatting with friends about poor customer service on the High St. (purchase of a fridge-freezer & cooker to be precise) and there were varying viewpoints and experiences shared... it may or may not put my friends off shopping at this particular store but that wasn't the point, we were 'communicating' about experiences. -
Just throwing it into the mix (as I have one for sale ) but you could consider a Dingwall Super Jazz. Has all the feel of a pukka early Fender, fabulous fit and finish of a handmade bass and the fanned fret system.
With the benefit of hindsight , he should have managed the situation in exactly the manner you suggest . But that doesn't make him dishonest in his earlier representations to the customer . He may or not be crazy , but whether he is or not , it doesn't mean he cheated the customer out of his money.
'Cheated' is a strong word but might he have kept the customers money after a legitimate complaint... we will never know!
